The Chanel SS 16 Couture collection was one of my faves. Karl brought us luscious, demure yet sensual pieces as many of us were still lapping at Downton Abbey’s divine and fluid take on early 20th century life and style. (Admittedly, I didn’t watch the show until it’s penultimate season). Notice that there’s very little black or tweed in the collection. Geometric alignment (Art Deco perhaps?) fused with lace, sequins and oh so many frilly things. I’ve never attended a Couture show let alone one of Karl’s. I’d always hoped to attend one of his fetes /runway shows. For another time and place I guess. Rest In Peace Karl. MLK was not well liked, nor were his tactics considered appropriate or even patriotic in the late 50s/60s by your average (mostly white) Americans. Would he take a knee or support doing so now? Who knows. One would hope. But when your Vice President invokes MLK’s principles, all the while supporting divisive, racist, jingoistic, and bigoted policies, all the while giving counsel to and in deference of ideologues, well, it’s disgusting actually. (In my truth - I support this day as Civil Rights day. So many others marched with, before and after King. I remain grateful for their sacrifices as well.).
