Are you a shipper or something
Hi, the only time I considered myself a shipper was when I was in college when I became one of those twin troopers. I don't consider myself as a shipper of anything this past few years, though.
hi, i'm curious about how some entertainment news are used as cover ups for current political issues, to divert people's attention. could you tell us anything about this (how often they are used, how its possible etc)? thank you :)
Hi, media cover ups are often used for very controversial stories involving the government, or something that may affect the public. There are different kinds of cover ups. Some cover ups are related to the controversy they want to hide, so that the attention will drift away from the real issue. Some cover ups are not related at all and are not that important, but still can get the attention of the people. Some cover ups are strange and random, sometimes lacks information, which can raise questions. However, cover ups are not always successful.
Thank you so much for that post. It was really interesting to read, also very informative. It's in my nature to question everything that media says, it doesn't have anything to do with my ship, I just can't trust anything so easily. Hope that you have a nice day (:
Hi, no problem! And thank you, have a nice day as well :)
I just saw your answer about idols asking permission of the company to date. This still applies for gay idols? I mean, can the company forbid the idol of date a person of the same sex?
Hi, the company cannot forbid artists. They are free to date whoever they want, whether it’s the opposite sex, or the same sex. Most of these idols tend to be private about it, anyways, especially in a country that is not open with the LGBT community. Even if the couple is becoming obvious about their relationship, the people who work around them won’t mention anything about it. It’s like you notice, but don’t question it, don’t comment about it. It’s still within a workplace, everyone is expected to be professional and not to mind personal stuff. What you see inside the company, stays inside.
Also, the company does not intervene regarding same sex relationships within artists (or artist and a civilian), unless it causes suspicions, issues and scandals. Since they’re of the same sex, they have no problem going out without being questioned by the public on why they’re together. But they still have to ask for permission on where to go, what time, when, etc. And of course, they have to be careful on their actions to avoid suspicions. Just like the scandal in my country that I mentioned on my first post, the artists didn’t ask for permission, went on a date, they weren’t careful on their actions, they were caught (I can’t elaborate on the scandal to protect the identities of these artists, just in case someone from my country might figure it out).
( my English is so bad I'm sorry) I'm just wondering, the artists (whenever they're really famous or not) can date w/ someone who isn't famous? Like the company have to approve the relationship?
Hi, your English is totally fine! Don’t worry about it, it’s not about how good your English is. As long as you can communicate what you wanted to express, then you’re totally fine :) You don’t have to say sorry about your English! (sorry I said way too much because I can understand you, since English is not my native language too)
Anyway, artists are actually free to date whoever they want, whether they are famous or not. Even if they are on a fake relationship, they are still free to date other people, but there are limitations. The company doesn’t have to approve the relationship. The only thing that concerns the company is when, where and what time will they see each other if ever the couple would like to meet. This is because, as much as possible, they are asked to keep their relationship on the low (but this is also personally preferred by artists for privacy reasons). They have to be more careful especially when going out alone with another person. So, the artist have to ask for permission from the company. But of course, there are a few artists who chose not to ask for permissions, or managed to pursue their plans even if the company did not allow them to. And because of these behaviors, a few resulted to issues or scandals, that’s why the company is strict regarding this matter.
1. am i the only one who's pissed off shippers (straight and homo)?! they're talking as if they know shits and they're idols personally ! that's tiring !! do they even know that ship is also a business strategy or what?
2. thinking that because 2 peeps are touchy/look each other etc makes them a couple is pure bullshit ! are they 5 ? (even kids doesnt think that way) in korean culture its normal to touch those who are close to you (aka hold hand, touching privates parts (YES YOU READ RIGHT)) even though paradoxically it's not a country that's open with homosexuality.
3. even if people were gay or not they wouldnt make it obvious !! then it would means they take their fans for stupid people.. dont even get me started with the fact that they have "proofs" -_-' and keep saying that "they respect others opinions and doesnt want to shove theirs (stupid) ideas in our throats
Hi, I hope you’ve already calmed down.
That’s one of the things that can happen if you’re a fan of an idol, so expect some fans to do that. That’s unavoidable. And of course, not everyone will believe that a ship is a business strategy. But let me clarify, NOT every ship are paired by the company. Only SOME, usually those who are company favorites. If they are usually paired on their activities, then it’s most likely that they’re paired. But I do believe that there are ships that have real friendships and has close relationships.
And, yes, I read that right. I’m Asian. Of course, I know that. My private part down there has been touched before as a joke. And indeed, Asian males are very touchy. But even though it’s normal, that doesn’t mean other things will have lesser chance to happen. Pure bullshit means it’s absolute nonsense/untrue. So, unless you know the real truth, then you can say it really is pure bullshit. But if you don’t, then don’t say it’s pure bullshit. Acknowledge every possibilities, especially in this real world where truths are even more peculiar than fiction. I’ve witnessed many unexpected & strange things from people you won’t expect, so I’m not surprised by different kinds of assumptions and ideas regarding people.
((Anyway, don’t mistaken a country that is not open with homosexuality. Understand that our culture is family oriented. We have family honor to protect. And since the country is not open with homosexuality, and we have to keep our family’s pride, most LGBT people are less likely to come out in a culture like this. To some, it may appear like majority of the people are straight just because the country is not open about this matter, but it’s not like that.))
I’m sorry, I’m afraid I didn’t get your first statement on your 3rd message. Anyway, stupid means it lacks intelligence and has no common sense. If their reasoning and explanation has a point, then it can’t be considered as stupid. If it doesn’t make sense at all, like it’s irrelevant and meaningless, then you can consider it stupid.
If you’re pissed off, then just ignore them completely. Don’t judge them just because they view things differently than you. You can’t stop people from doing what they want with their own life and their own blog. They have a freedom to do so. The only thing you can do is to either acknowledge that people have a different way of thinking than you, or just ignore everything. Why waste your time and energy to something that pisses you off in the first place?
I bet you're just 16 lol
Hi, when I was 16 SNSD hasn’t debuted yet.
Hi. I really like your blog and the way you write. As someone studying mass communication (in another continent) it is interesting to know how it works in other parts of the world. Anyway, it irks me how media outlets say they "plan to reveal" another couple in a period of time? plan to reveal? If I were them and I had real information I would reveal it as soon as posible before other one does it. Why would they do that if it's not because they are planning it with the company?
Hi, thank you so much!
In our case, if a media outlet said that they will reveal a couple, it will only take a day or a few days. It won’t take weeks or months. And indeed, if it is real information, usually, media outlets will report it as soon as possible. I find it weird, honestly. Media outlets will usually only say that they are “planning to reveal something” if that something is very controversial or kind of scandalous because it will create more hype, attention and thrill (usually a blind item topic where it has already been the talk of the town). Media outlets don’t usually say that they are “planning to reveal something” if that something is just simply a couple dating. But I think, since it’s EXO, it’s a bit reasonable to do such strategy because EXO has a very big fandom, where few fans had an exaggerated response when a member simply followed a model on Instagram. What more if another member is dating. But I still find it weird and unusual. All I know is, if it took them long before reporting something that they said they’re planning to reveal, then it’s either for the thrill or something might be holding them back. It can either be because there is more information to add or because of an agreement with the concerned parties (which are the artists and the company).
Thanks!
So if there is a homosexual do companies try to cover it up like staged dating?
Hi, yes, our company have done it before. We don’t do it unless there were rumors that might affect the artist’s career and image. If there are no suspicions, then we will not pursue it.
I will just share some information that I learned from studying classic cinema. Actually, this is common during the golden era of Hollywood by movie studios (classic actors were under a long contract in a certain film studio such as MGM, 20th Century Fox, etc. they weren’t allowed to appear on the rival studio’s films unless they were given permission, so actors were actually controlled by movie studios before). But they don’t use fake dating, they do fake marriages to conceal the artist’s sexuality. Media is even more manipulative decades ago, they can do such things. In the present time, a lot of things have changed, so some strategies have changed as well. But that doesn’t stop media from being persuasive and manipulative in nature.
Thanks!
cckaisoo*tumblr*com/post/143786083115 I knew you were legit I love you marry me
Oh! What I shared is a common practice, after all. There are probably a few differences, but hey, it’s still the same industry.
Anyway, haha, thank you for loving me, and for believing in me even if I didn’t forced you to. haha, I love you too!
Hi! Fist of all, thank you for the informations you share with us and also thank you for your answers! I've just read your post about the asian medias and SM ent and i was thinking about that actor singer. The photos or infos leaked about him or whatever are new? From this year or the past few years? I just want to know if this guy was singer before actor or actor before singer. I'm aware that you don't want to share much infos but i hope you'll answer to this.. thank you!
Hi, no problem!
Hmm, I can’t say much, there’s a possibility that we’re from the same country if ever you’re familiar with the scandal I mentioned haha. But here: he’s an actor first before becoming a singer. The scandal happened a few years ago. I apologize, that’s all I can say.
Thanks!
Hello, I am curious about something. Are usually the companies homophobic? I mean, I know Korea is not so open about homosexuality but how does the company treat a homosexual idol? Is there a chance for them to get fired?
Hi, companies are not homophobic per se. If the artist is very important to the company, the company will usually encourage them to NOT come out because it will greatly affect their career. Especially in an Asian country where the reactions will most likely be unfavorable and indifferent, than positive and accepting. The company will automatically think of profit, so one of the first things they will consider is the public’s reaction. It’s always about the work and the business, not much about personal stuff.
I am not sure about other Asian countries, but in our case, they will not get fired if they are a homosexual. But will they get fired if they come out without the company’s knowledge or permission? This has never happened before in our company, so I don’t know what will happen. Artists know the effects of coming out in a conservative country, so most of them personally prefer not to come out, especially if they’re on the peak of their careers. There were only very few artists who have come out already in our country, but they only came out when they’re not under a contract anymore.
Hello, first I'd like to thank you for sharing those things with us, opening some fans' eyes. I truly appreciate that! I'd like to ask one question, how did you started working in media? I'm interested in working behind the cameras with artists or maybe be a artist myself, but I know this isn't a easy thing to accomplish. So can you please give me some tips like where should I start, who I should look for or what I should be aware of? Thank you! - MS
Hi, no problem! I studied BA in Media and Communication in college. I had my internship in the company I work in right now, so I took the chance and applied there, nothing really special. You can take the same program that I had. The program name and its focuses varies from each university and country, so I’ll suggest the most common program: Mass Communication. You can major in Broadcasting, it focuses on radio, television and film production if you want to work behind the cameras (but you can also work in front of the cameras, nonetheless). There is advertising, journalism and public relations too. The program Communication studies is more broad where you can have a lot of career choices, you can take that as well.
If your focus is to be an artist, I suggest you should take Performing Arts and major in anything you want: dance, music, drama/theatre. There are universities that also offer programs and majors that are more specific like BA in Theatre major in Production or something like that. However, companies don’t care what degree you have anyway, as long as you have the confidence and the talent they are looking for. Make sure to be on your best look because companies also care for the physical appearance. Anyway, sometimes, an artist looks for handlers or managers first. Some artist just go on for auditions. While some have connections in media to help them get possible roles and such. A few artist were part of the production staff first before actually appearing in front of the camera. It’s always different.
If you specifically wanted to work behind the cameras, most of the time, you need to graduate from a certain degree that is media-related because you will have more chance if you do. It’s very strict, they don’t just simply hire, so you really have to prove yourself. Also, if you are sensitive, you have to toughen yourself. Media and entertainment is a very demanding industry, so you’ll find media practitioners as intimidating, strict, and pressuring. You should get used to people cursing here and there, people who are bold, shameless, straight-forward, frank. But you shouldn’t take these personally, because it’s always all about the work. Media is not very corporate or office-like where people are calm and collected, it’s the opposite (well, unless you’re in an office-like department). It’s like everything are always in a rush. Just don’t take everything personally, be tough and be confident :)
Good luck! I hope I helped :)
Just because SM confirmed it immediately doesnt mean it's fake. Lol they could have already choose the right timing. And according to the sasaengs, there are more intriguing pictures that could destroy Kaistal's career that's why SM decided to confirm it immediately.
Hi, please do try to understand my statements before sending me a message because you seem to misinterpret my words. Read this just in case some might misunderstand me again of claiming that what I said (or will say) is 100% true in this issue. Thanks.
Anyway, sasaengs can either say the absolute truth, the fabricated truth, or a total lie. If they are capable of doing extreme things, then they are also capable of doing either of those three. But then again, who knows. And as always, you are free to believe in anything you want.
I am really sorry for you because you have to deal with this, what you are saying is so reasonable, it's just some people in denial, they are choosing to be fooled unfortunately, please stay strong, and don't let those childish people affecting you.
Hi, thank you so much for your concern! I appreciate it :)
It’s totally fine, although it really is tiring. Some are just probably like that because of their feelings and emotions, and some are just holding a tight grip on what they believe in. It’s understandable. I am not forcing them to believe, anyway. So, it’s alright.
Thank you so much.
I can't help but laugh at the asks you're getting. I wonder if they even read your posts. I saw someone send this to another Kaisoo blog and I thought it fits with your anons too, "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought, without accepting it as fact. - Aristotle" As for Jessica on Radiostar, that proves it's cooked up. SM has ties with the show/pd. The show wouldn't invite Jessica if SM has no control over the appearance since she can spill a lot.
Hi, some people do misinterpret written words, it’s kind of inevitable so I expected such things to happen. But from now on, I will not entertain messages that contain misinterpretations of my statements because it’s tiring to explain when I have explained myself several times already…I hope all of you understand.
Anyway, thanks for that quote! I agree. But maybe some people are just too overwhelmed by their own emotions that they tend to do the opposite of what was stated on the quote. But I do think majority are capable of doing that when they’re in the right state of mind :)
As for Jessica, she’s planning to have her solo debut soon so she’ll really make TV appearances to promote herself as a solo artist. If she’ll get questions about her sister’s relationship, it can either be the show’s choice, or SM is involved. And whatever her answer is, it can either be her own choice, or again, SM is involved. In my opinion, it’s 50/50 considering her sister is still under the company.
Thanks!
I decided to create a disclaimer page because I’ve been getting the same messages regarding my statements and it’s quite tiring to repeat my answer multiple times.
Also, my askbox will be closed for the meantime because I currently have 12 messages that I'll try to answer as soon as possible. I apologize if your ask has been on my inbox for several days already. I hope you understand. Thank you! Goodnight to everyone.
