|| Urban Knights
The question comes pretty hesitantly, after a few moments of just…silence. Sayaka wasn’t sure how to go about this. It wasn’t necessarily an experience that she told anyone about. The last time she tried to explain it, her own parents had treated it like it was her fault in the first place.
"You know…I joined the knights at first, for…an entirely selfish reason." Sayaka started, taking a seat in her office chair. "A cowardly reason, I guess. I was trying to get out of a bad living situation. I’m not…well liked in the city. Adults don’t really care much for me, and my peers…well, you’ve seen how they feel." With small frown, Sayaka looked to the side.
"In school, I was bullied. All the time, for years. There were some…primary reasons why, but even if not I’m sure they would have found a plethora of reasons. That guy was one of the people who harassed me on a daily basis." Sighing, she satback and crossed her arms, slightly uncomfortable with this subject. "One day in particular….it went a little too far. That was the day I’d had it, contracted, and left home. When I tried to go home as a wreck, and tell my mother what happened, she just told me it was my fault, and wrote me off."
Adjusting the uniform she wore, Sayaka’s fingers found the bottom edge of her top, raising it slightly. Enough to reveal the scar sliced along her abdomen. Only for a moment, as she dropped the clothing, letting it cover the past wound again.
"He cornered me in the bathroom at school that day. Pinned me, and started harassing me like normal…at least, for a while. It took a step too far. He tried to…er, sexually assault me." She said, blunt as possible, she wasn’t trying to dance around the memory she was intentionally explaining to Kyouko. "Of course…I’m sure he made it out still like I was the bad guy, in the end. I wouldn’t know. I left after that. That’s the real reason I joined the academy. I was hoping to get a new start somewhere. And I wanted to get away from that, before….I did something far more regrettable to someone, or myself. If I had remained a civilian…I don’t think I’d still be alive, right now, frankly."
At first, the lancer really wasn't sure to expect when Sayaka sat down and started telling her story. A familiar feeling of anger reawakened inside her. Boy did this all sound too familiar. Sayaka? Bullied in school? She would've never guessed. The Lieutenant was so fierce and strong in battle, it was strange to hear that she let herself get bullied by others...
The more Sayaka explained her story the more Kyouko's fists and jaw clenched. If she hadn't cut her fingernails, it would've been no surprise if she drew blood. This feeling she had.. a feeling of seething anger. The very same emotion she felt when Homura went through the same thing years ago. Comrades bullied by weak-willed peers who chose to act like the scum of the earth. Hell, if Kyouko were there somehow...
It took a supreme effort to stomach the fact that Sayaka was sexually harassed. Everything was made clearer now. The hesitation and timidness to being cornered by dirty minded males. It sickened her. She didn't feel pity for Sayaka.. but something else she couldn't really put her finger on.
Kyouko closed her eyes shut in an effort to calm her already rising blood pressure. Taking a deep breath only helped so much. Walking over to the seated Lieutenant, Kyouko silently put her hand on her shoulder. She simply stared at the bluenette for a little while, trying to think of what to say to her.
"Don't you ever.. believe any of that was your fault, Sayaka," she spoke quietly, her voice subtly shaking. "Ya got every right ta have trust issues. I jus' wanna say... Say that I'm here for ya. Fer anything."
|| Urban Knights
The suggestion sounded fine to Sayaka. If anything that felt safer than anywhere else in the camp. Her quarters was a solitary room. Nothing terribly impressive, given she was only a rank higher than knight, but it was a major improvement in terms of security and privacy, anyway.
"That’s fine. It’s more private there anyway." She reasoned, before gesturing for Kyouko to follow her. Heading back into the camp’s property, it doesn’t take long for her to guide Kyouko to the residential building, and to the door that led into her room. A turn of the handle, and the inside of the room was revealed. Plain, with a bed, a working desk that already had a few scattered bits of paperwork here and there, and her personal belongings.
She waited until Kyouko stepped inside before shutting the door, running a hand through her hair as she sighed. She hadn’t said a word on the way here. In fact, her frown hadn’t budged. She was troubled, deeply so, by whatever it was on her mind, that she pondered telling Kyouko.
When Sayaka motioned to Kyouko, she followed. It wasn't too far of a walk. It happened in complete silence, much to Kyouko's discomfort. She couldn't think of anything to say to the Lieutenant at this point. Whatever was on her mind was going to have to wait until she felt more comfortable in her quarters.
The room itself was a lot larger than her own. Hell, all knights got were beds and a stool. Sayaka had a whole desk to herself. She supposed it made sense. Knights didn't have to do any paper work.
Once inside, Kyouko walked in and stood near Sayaka's bed. She didn't really feel like sitting at the moment, so she simply crossed her arms and waited for Sayaka to say something. It was silent at first. Neither of them said anything for a while. When Kyouko had enough, she opened her mouth to get things started.
"So...? What's troublin' ya, Miki?"
|| Urban Knights
Sayaka blinked, blue irises meeting red with a hint of nervousness. Was she really pursuing this topic now? She supposed it was with good reason. Kyouko was right, she just…froze, when it came to situations like that. As sad as that was, she couldn’t seem to stop the reaction before it set in.
That’s pathetic. Sayaka knew, she realized. She should have hurt him, should done something for herself. But he was worse than any other guy that could have approached her with similar attitude. There was a history there. One she didn’t like to think about, and one that still haunted her enough to traumatize her all over again when she was within such close vicinity with him.
"I…it’s…his fault."
The admitted statement is quiet, eyes glancing to the side, despite Kyouko’s efforts to keep their eye contact. “Men…they make me…uncomfortable.” They scared her, to an extent, honestly. Not normally. But when they got so close, when they had the same kind of…intent, that she experienced before, it made her stomach knot up and woke that ill feeling once again.
"This isn’t…I don’t want to talk about this here…can we go somewhere else? Anywhere, I don’t…care."
Kyouko tilted her head when Sayaka spoke quietly. Yeah, she supposed it was their fault. What she said next made the lancer wonder if something.. happened for Sayaka to say that... Of course something happened. This behavior wasn't normal. There was no doubt anymore. But she knew she had to step carefully around this topic with the Lieutenant. As much as Kyouko wanted to know what was going on, she wasn't going to be able to get it out of Sayaka with the usual brash and demanding way. This was delicate.
At the request to go somewhere else, Kyouko nodded and looked around. "We can go to yer quarters... Would ya feel better about talkin' there?"
|| Urban Knights
It honestly didn’t occur to her that any of the three could be knights. That might explain why he knew about Akemi. They told him, probably though he could use it against Sayaka should she threaten him in some way. Try to report her and make it look as though she attacked a civilian instead. She was no idiot. Itstill took her a moment to recover herself somewhat once her wrist had been let go, and Kyouko began handling the boys.
Her yes averted at the question. Was she really so pathetic, with these past mistakes, that she needed someone else to come in and battle for her? It was no wonder she couldn’t garner respect from most of the knights, promotion or not. She was still as pathetic as she was before, it felt like. “I’m…yeah I’m fine…they didn’t…do anything else.”
She seemed reluctant to meet Kyouko’s gaze, though did give a small nod, and a sigh as her hand rubbed at the back of her head. “Thank you…” She mumbled. Kyouko shouldn’t have had to do that in the first place. “I don’t…know how he got so close to camp. I was heading into the city, and I think those two other knights let him in. He’s not…a knight.” Sayaka would have known if he was a knight. She would have been…considerably more terrified, if he was a knight, sharing the same territory as her. Able to get to her.
Shaking her head, dismissing her thoughts, she grimaced. “Sorry though…you shouldn’t have had to jump in like that.”
With a frown, Kyouko closed her eyes momentarily. She wasn't very pleased with Sayaka's lack of performance back there. This wasn't the first time she was a witness to the now Lieutenant's hesitant behavior when it came to certain knights. Or maybe it was just... boys....?
The lancer could care less if that punk was actually a knight or not. They were gone and their lesson learned. There were more pressing matters to attend to now. Opening her eyes again, Kyouko leaned in closer almost forcing the bluenette to lock her timid blue eyes with the lancer's fiery red ones.
"There's somethin' yer keepin' from me. That woulda been fine an' all before, but we're supposed ta be comrades now. Friends. I ain't yer enemy, Sayaka. Now let me help ya an' tell me what the hell's goin' on with you freezin' up like that everytime ya run into a group of guys. Yer Lieutenant Miki fer Chrissakes. Yer above every single one 'a those pricks. Why are ya actin' so scared now? It's... it's unlike you."

Another day, another set of thoughts to deal with. Since returning to the camp after her injury-related leave, Sayaka had been put right to work. Paperwork and physical work both, to come with her new promotion as a lieutenant in camp. Of course, on top of that, there comes the personal endeavor of trying to get some respect in her position. There was only artificial respect in that camp, particular for her. Nothing genuine. They still ridiculed her, she knew, even if she no longer had to sleep among the regular knight bunks with the others. That didn’t bar her from overhearing them any other time.
So, she supposed she still looked forward to days off that she attained to simply do as she pleased, either on grounds or off. Granted, her status didn’t follow her into the city in terms of being left alone, but she would just have to deal with that as she always did, right? She thought so. She thought so, up until trouble reared its unsightly head, in the form of maybe…three heads? Three familiar peers, once again boys with nothing else better to do, finding preference in spending their free time harassing old targets that they should have really outgrown by now.
She found herself halted by the three, surrounded rather abruptly and stuck fast where she stood. “….” Sayaka grimaced, the magical knight now stuck. She could fight back, but somehow…these situations always found her startled, frozen in place. Why was it always like this? Maybe because one face in particular is disturbingly familiar to her. The same face that gifted her with the oh so pleasant mark on her abdomen. Why was she even surprised?
"Well, well. If it ain’t our favorite old pal. So tell me, ya still confused?” Laughter. That tone still grated on her nerves. The tone of an individual who would rather ruin someone’s innocence, than ever try to understand what might be wrong.
"L…let me by." Sayaka demanded, hesitating at first. That was a mistake, surely. Stumbling, like that. He simply laughed, crossing his arms. Yeah, no chance that was going to happen. I need to…fight.
That was the problem. She couldn’t. Her muscles and nerves, they only filled with the unsettling, nerve-wracking sensation that plagued the senses when one wanted to move desperately, but simply couldn’t. The feeling of flight coupled with an unwilling paralysis of the muscles; frozen to the spot she stood. She could feel any amount of rage or disdain towards this stain in her memory, on her torso physically even, and yet couldn’t do anything about it. It frustrated her. Just once, she wanted him to know what she knew. Isolation, pain, distress; by her own hands. But instead she still froze up like a frightened child, the memory suddenly like a fresh new thought in the forefront of her imagination.
"Just…leave me alone…”
"Hah! Oh?" He sneered, taking a stride forward. a hand shot out at her, causing a reflexive, defensive movement. Her arm raised in front of her, only for him to snatch her wrist, grip tightening immediately. Her wrist was sore immediately; she could tell a gentle hold was far from his intention. Her breath caught in her throat, her breathing pattern about halting entirely as he stepped closer still, sneering right in her face, giving her a generous fill of the smell of smoke and rather foul breath. It almost made her as sick as he made her himself, by his presence alone. How fitting. Sayaka grimaced, desperately urging her legs to work, for her body to move back away from him.
"Make me, dollface."
Ugh. Sayaka opens her mouth to…retort? Insult him? Scream for him to back off? But her mouth feels dry, and the sound refuses to leave her throat. Instead she shuts her mouth yet again, forced only to stare in sickening discomfort at the familiarly threatening expression on the face of her harasser. He remembered that day as well as she did, she knew. And she knew he resented her for what happened, at that.
Kyouko grew tired of the same old things. Training. Lunch. Sleep. If she got any assignments at all, they were mediocre delivery missions. Taking a medical bag to another building or escorting an old lady back to the city. It bored her to no end. She sometimes thought of leaving again. But then what? She would be back to square one.
This time she was shirking her responsibilities again by taking a stroll around the camp. She liked walking alone near the less traveled routes so no one could see her slacking off. When she turned a corner, she stopped and noticed something was happening in the small group ahead of her. Three guys and... the Lieutenant? Sayaka the Lieutenant? By the looks of things, the lancer immediately sensed this encounter was not a good one, and her blood began to boil..
Part of her thought process as she walked up to the guy in front of Sayaka was why she wasn't defending herself. She was a goddamn Lieutenant for crying out loud. The other was who the fuck this smokey prick in front of her comrade thought he was, grabbing her like that? With a swift tap to the shoulder, her 'peer' turned around only to be met with a full forced punch to the nose, sending him reeling back in pain.
"GAAHH WHat the fUCK--" he screamed, holding his blooded nose. Kyouko immediately walked in between Sayaka and her harasser, fists still clenched.
"You wanna explain ta me why the fuck yer layin hands on a goddamn Lieutenant, asswipe!? I would have yer ass demoted, but that ain't my style. I'd rather beat the shit outta ya instead--" the lancer spat.
The other boys looked torn between fleeing or checking to make sure it was okay by their 'leader' first. They decided to help him up and give her dirty looks instead. How cute, standing their ground. "You're gonna get it, Sakura," the middle boy threatened, looking into his hand now covered in blood. "I'll make sure Akemi gets wind of thi--"
Kyouko snapped at the mention of Akemi. She was going to let them go, but now they needed to be taught a lesson. Taking a step forward, the lancer made a very swift and powerful kick straight up into his groin. The sound that came out of his throat almost made her laugh. The satisfying smirk was still there, though. Kneeling down to the now doubled over 'peer', Kyouko lifted his head up with a fistful of his disgustingly matted hair.
"Don't you ever. Threaten me or mention Akemi ever again. If I hear that you said somethin' to anyone about this, I'll fuckin' kill ya. Mark my fuckin' words, dick breath."
With that, Kyouko let his head hang and sneered at the other two trembling beside their friend before turning around and grabbing Sayakas forearm to lead her away from there. Once they were alone, she released the Lieutenant's arm and crossed he arms.
"...ya a'right, Sayaka? They didn't do nothin' else... right?"
-- Uncanny Heroes [@Knight!Kyouko]
"I guess there’s nothing wrong with that…" Sayaka mumbled. Particularly not after what Kyouko had just done for her, anyway. At least there was a good impression tucked in there somewhere.
"I don’t live by myself, no. I just run most of the errands I guess. It’s just me and my father. So I suppose if you really want to help, then that’s cool with me."
"Jus' you an' yer dad, huh?" She was curious as to why her mother wasn;t mentioned, but she knew better than anyone not to pry with those sorts of questions. Kyouko shrugged and looked forward again.
"I don't mind helpin' ya out! Ah-- Name's Kyouko, by the way," she grinned, pausing to make a slight bow before taking the bluenette's hand and planting a chaste kiss on the top of it. "Pleasure ta meet ya."
-- Socius [@Kyouko]
"O-okay…" Sayaka mumbled. She’d rather try and forget it honestly, as strange as it made the air feel, knowing how Kyouko had reacted to all that.
"Are you sure it’s gonna feel better, beating a soldier recovering from her wounds? Sounds almost like you’ve got an advantage." She teased lightly, trying to lighten her own mood as well, a little bit.
Kyouko scoffed and lightly nudged Sayaka's arm with her elbow. "Recoverin' soldier? That doesn't matter when yer playin' games. A real game expert can play games with both arms broken. It ain't that hard!" She could faintly remember having sprained something in her arm a while back. She still went to the arcade despite her wounds. She was a badass. Nothing was going to stop her from playing games.
"C'mooon. Yer more tactical an' skilled than that, Sayaka," she smirked, putting her arms back behind her head.

"Mm, okay…" Sayaka said, scooting into the seats and taking her seat by the window. With their bags put away and the knights finally seated comfortably, it wasn’t too long before the train was already making its slow preparations to take off eventually.
"I guess with the right company then, traveling can be more entertaining." Sayaka chuckled. "At least I’m traveling with Kyouko. Your company is probably the best I’ve had, after all."
Kyouko let Sayaka get comfortable and situated before taking her seat near the isle. With a few adjustments to her seat, Kyouko leaned back and relaxed a bit. The train seemed to be getting ready for departure. About time.
Kyouko turned her head to look at her the bluenette, trying not to look so surprised. Sayaka saying something like that.. it made her feel really good. It felt a little silly, but she felt almost proud. "..yeah? W-well a 'course it is! I am Kyouko after all. Ya ain't gonna find better company anywhere else! Heh!"
-- Departures [AU]
"Well yeah but…I mean, I don’t usually travel unless it’s a far off mission, which has only been once or twice, and those were close enough to just travel on horseback." Sayaka shrugged. "I’ve never been that far from Mitakihara.”
"Besides, I mean…I’ve never been on the trains meant for long distance travel. The ones around the city aren’t really a big deal, though I admit, I haven’t dealt with those in years, since I usually don’t need to. I don’t travel much, you can tell."
"Huh," she mused, finally boarding the train and getting her luggage situated before taking a seat next to the window. Then she froze, caught between an idea. Making her decision, Kyouko stood back up and got out of the seat. "Here, then.. maybe you should get the window seat. Since ya never been, an' all--"
People on their first rides usually wanted to see the scenery and such right? Kyouko had seen it several times before, so it was no big deal, really. "Travelin's kinda borin', but could be fun with the right people, I guess." All her travelling had been alone, but she supposed Sayaka would make decent company. At the very least she had someone to talk to.
-- Socius [@Kyouko]
"Ah…uh huh…" Sayaka simply let it drop. She didn’t really believe 100% she deserved a promotion, honestly. But, aside from that, Kyouko and Homura just seemed to harbor some bad blood. Something Sayaka wasn’t sure she wanted to stick her hand near.
"Er…thanks, I guess." She murmured, before clearing her throat. "Maybe we should…get a move on, then."
Kyouko sighed. She really needed to gain better control of her temper. She didn't want to go scaring off the only person she actually liked hanging out with. Where would that leave her? "Look, ah... Jus' ferget all that," she scoffed with a lazy wave of her hand. "This is supposed ta be a good day out ain't it? An'... since ya got promoted.. why not make it a celebration sort a thing yeah?"
The lancer went digging into her pockets, clumsily pulling out a half box of pocky and placing a stick in between her teeth. "Now that yer a big shot lieutenant, it'll feel a lot better when I kick yer ass at the arcade."
-- Socius [@Kyouko]
Ah…Sayaka fidgeted with the skin of her other arm. Maybe should shouldn’t have mentioned that after all. Kyouko didn’t…seem to take it too well. Then again, knowing the knight’s previous state as a higher rank…she supposed it was somewhat expected.
"Sorry…that upset you…should’ve kept that to myself, at least until later, I guess…" Sayaka sighed, rubbing her head. "Er—what about her though? I mean…the letter was from her, sure, but it was a pretty official thing."
Kyouko didn't say anything for a little while. This wasn't.. Sayaka's fault. She was level headed enough to know that. Still, the whole situation just pissed her off. Why the hell was she even here if she was going to get treated like this. Akemi was acting like a childish bully. A bully with power is what she really was. Fucking sore loser--
"It's fine," she said abruptly, a little harsher than she probably wanted. "Akemi is smart an' crafty. I'm sure she's got all sorts 'a connections an' strings ta pull, makin' sure I don't get promoted. Prolly tellin' the higher ups a whole bunch 'a bullshit reasons why I'm scum, while she's at it. They'll never promote me as long as she feels like fuckin' me over."
Shaking her head, Kyouko tried to calm down. This wasn't the time to be having a fit. Her fight wasn't here. Unclenching her fists, she flexed them open and closed a few times before partially turning to Sayaka. "Uhm. Congrats anyway. Ya really do deserve it an' all."
