jamie had been checking out, with tom presumably meandering near the convenience store’s door, when the commotion happened. he squinted to see what the teenager had in hand and politely asked the store owner just to add it to his bill. “ya lucked out kid, I told them that we would actually be on time this go around.” he turned back to his friend. “-and two hours worth of paper work on one’s day off does not on time make.”
tom rolled his brown eyes as he watched jamie take on the kids item on his bill. fingers went through his belt loops as he shook his head and walked over to his friend. “ ya know that he’s not gonna learn if you just bail him out. “ the detective exclaimed to jamie, not really caring too much about the subject because he didn’t know this kid but the principle of it still had to be shared. “ also - you can’t fault me for being late, being late is being on time as they say. “
“eh-eh, i saw that - put it back. “ tom scolded as he moved his jacket to show off the detectives badge on his belt. “ just cause i’m off duty doesn’t mean i can’t arrest ya’” the detective added, not really wanting to arrest someone today, that was so much paperwork and he had much more pressing matters weighing on his mind.
( PENN BADGLEY, CISMALE, HE/HIM ) — ✧ that looks like THOMAS ‘ TOM’ WAYNE II! they’re the THIRTY YEAR OLD SON of BRUCE WAYNE. [ they are also a DETECTIVE at paragon. ] i hear they’re STOIC & CHARISMATIC, but tend to be STUBBORN & RECKLESS. his file says that his ability is RICH MAN W/A LOT OF TOYS.
i wasn’t expecting to bring in another chara but the muse struck so here we are !!
just couple trigger warnings ! tw! drugs, drinking, violence !!
thomas wayne the second is the son of bruce wayne and a socialite who had a brief affair that ended shortly after he was born. he lived with his mother after they split up.
he was raised with a silver spoon in his mouth. his mother was a spoiled rich girl so she wanted to give her son all that he ever wanted and more. she loved him but she didn’t really have that maternal instinct most mothers had. she has dropped him once or twice as a baby which she jokes about now.
he was always being handed off to his nanny, mostly because his mother didn’t know how to care for another human and just thought that since that was how she was raised, it would be good for tom also. he craved his mothers affection and love, and even though he knew she loved him, her dismissive attitude and reliance on their nanny quickly made him a little resentful towards her.
his relationship with his father wasn’t super close but tom was a very curious kid, so curious that he wandered his way into his fathers bat lair. tom was scarred. unlike others who might of freaked out out of happiness that their father was the batman, the young boy just realized his father was a murderer, a menace, a vigilante. he kept his fathers secret, even let him teach him some of his moves purely for self defense but he vowed to himself that he’d never ever turn into his father, a murderer.
as he got older, tom started to do what normal socialites did - party. he quickly took the party life, mostly because it was engrained in his dna. staying out late, stealing, drinking, doing drugs. the more he partied, the more he realized how privileged he actually was. it was a very ignorant realization but he’d been so sheltered in his rich lifestyle that he never even realized that his life wasn’t typical. the more galas, charity events and parties tom attended, the more he realized that he hated them which is why he’d drink or do drugs.
when tom decided that once he graduated college that he’d become a police officer, his mother almost had a heart attack. that was not a rich man’s job, that was so ‘beneath’ them but tom didn’t want to hold onto his families money has a crutch for the rest of his life. he wanted to help people, he wanted to be a good man and he hoped becoming a police officer would also make less like his father, another bonus.
tom’s life slowly started to go in the direction he wanted. less guilt, less worry about his looming heritage. he almost felt completely normal, like an average joe. then he got promoted to detective which was amazing. it was a dream come true, one step in the direction of even becoming the commissioner which he kind of hoped he could fill that position one day.
everything was going great, tom was loving life as a detective - getting to solve more crimes and put away bad guys until he starts to notice things around the station. things like evidence going missing, paper work being shredded ‘by mistake’, files being ‘lost’. it was getting too coincidental for tom so he started to follow the trail and found out that a bunch of the other detectives were being bribed by a local mob to cover their tracks.
tom was caught spying on them and instead of just submitting, he told them he wanted in. he lied and said bruce had cut him off, told them he was broke and that he needed the money and didn’t care how he got it. they believed him and slowly started letting him in on their illegal activities. tom just wanted to do small stuff, recording all that he could by wearing a wire or using his phone but they wanted more, they wanted to know that he was serious. he was told that he had to ‘scare’ a witness into not showing up in court and shoved him into a police van with a scared man. he had no choice. they were standing outside the police van waiting and watching out so he had to do this, there was no faking. tom knew they could hear him so he couldn’t explain to the man that he was sorry, that he didn’t want to do this before he started to beat him up.
tom was never a violent person, he prided himself on that but in those moments, his knuckles hitting that man’s face and body, even though he was purposefully hitting places that he knew wouldn’t severely hurt him, it still felt so good. so good that it scared him. so good that he almost felt his body go in for more but he stopped himself.
tom immediately went to his father after this experience. rattled and fearful, he knew that he was the only person who would understand. bruce told him what was already so painfully obvious, the police were corrupt so the only way to make them pay was to take matters into his own hands. bruce offered to give him some of his supplies he used as batman, stuff that he actually bought for him as a teen just in case he changed his mind about maybe becoming a vigilante one day. tom reluctantly took the tools, along with a suit.
tom still hasn’t put on the suit, still hasn’t made a decision but he knows one thing for sure; he’s not letting those guys get away with their crimes.
!! personality wise !! tom is very adaptable ! he is a pretty friendly guy, he knows how to work a room because of his socialite upbringing so this man can definitely keep up a conversation even if he thinks the convo is so insufferably boring. he definitely has a bit of a rich boy attitude still, he grew out of it mostly but that little bit of smugness never goes away. its endearing but also a little annoying. he is morally a very follow the rules kind of guy. he doesn’t not like vigilantes but, he does not condone theft or murder. those things do nothing to help people, its a waste and corrupt. if he’s in a bad mood, he wants to be left alone and he will not budge on that. he will sip his whiskey and lay in his bathrobe in his room alone and will throw a book at ur head if you disturb him because the snob definitely comes out when he’s upset.
