Joe Keery on Quotidien
You remember what that’s like? Having friends? Yeah, I do. I remember what it was like to have a good friend, a real friend who actually believed in me, and who was actually kind to me.

JOE KEERY as STEVE HARRINGTON Season 5 | Volume 2
Guys I think Steve is so miserable because he’s got nothing right now. They’re trapped in Hawkins with no end in sight with the constant anxiety of the end of the world. Dustin is deep in his grief over Eddie, Robin is distracted by having her first girlfriend and he’s watching the girl he’s convinced is the love of his life stay in an unhappy relationship. The dude’s got nothing to be happy about.

The one thing that has for sure convinced me media literacy is at historic lows are reactions to Steve and Dustin’s tension in season 5. It’s so very clear why Dustin is angry and grieving, but he’s doing it in a self-destructive way. Leaving that snake in the locker and signing it like he does signals that he’s looking for a fight that he may or may not survive. He’s possibly most angry at himself for Eddie’s death, and that guilt is leading him to make some really questionable choices.
Steve absolutely cares about what Dustin is doing, but he’s scared and angry that Dustin is risking his life fighting a bunch of meatheads, lying about it, and refusing to listen to anyone telling him this is a self-destructive path. Dressing up like Eddie is also a real big warning sign. Imagine seeing someone you love dressing up and acting like the friend who died in their arms. Steve’s seeing his friend disappear in front of his eyes and is powerless to stop it.
At the end of the day, there’s been some tension between these two since season 4, and I’m glad the show is exploring the impact that has had on their friendship over the last year so that it can be properly resolved.
People on Twitter just pissing me off for understanding jack and shit about Dustin and how people experience loss and trauma.
a) PTSD can and does manifest as anger.
b) No, Dustin did not know Eddie for "just a week" Dustin had known Eddie since he started high school, which means they had known each other for just about a year, 8 months most likely.
c) Ages 13-15 are EXTREMELY important developmental years. That adolescent development got totally fucked by witnessing Eddie die in his arms.
AND D) His grieving process has been completely interrupted by everyone hating Eddie. He can't properly move on because he's stuck trying to move on from a person that no one is showing sympathy for, in turn, no one is showing sympathy to Dustin which means he's not being allowed to grieve properly. He is stuck in square one.
He's grieving, and he's traumatized. Maybe that's something incomprehensible to someone who hasn't experienced that grief, but it's comprehensible TO ME! Dustin Henderson I will always defend you.
Thinking of Steve ships out of context is genuinely so funny cause one has canonically held him at gunpoint, two have beaten him within an inch of his life, and the last one has brutally slammed him against a wall holding a sharp glass piece to his throat 💀🙏
"I haven't had scenes with Joe since, like, the first season. So to go back and get to work with Joe is such a treat." — Charlie Heaton
