I appreciate this beyond words, but are there any tips you have in general?

Be good at PT. If you get attached to an infantry unit, your guys are gonna depend on you to keep up with whatever they're doing and then some. The medic is supposed to be the fittest in the platoon. Also study. Good luck, I wish you the best

Would you suggest college before hand, a military academy, or just joining as a PVT?

Depends if you want to become an officer or enlisted. Or you can do college and then come in as a SPC (E4)
