As thanks for everyone's patience, if you want, here are a couple of snippets of what's to come in Midnight Ocean. Of course, beware of spoilers under the cut.

“Come here,” Than murmurs, though he’s the one to step up to Moros.

Moros is deer-still all the while, his eyes never once leaving Than’s face, though they flicker from gold to red to red and green.

“Are you well?” Than asks, swiping a streak of mortal blood from Moros’ cheek with his thumb, thinking of Nyx thumbing at his own cheeks. He doesn’t maintain the contact long, though he stays close and keeps his back to Ares despite the weight of his attention.

Moros’ lips part. He looks soft. Young.

Brotherly instincts are something Thanatos has experienced only rarely. Perhaps those of a little brother, but he’s often felt as if he’s lacking those of an elder. Whatever was engrained in Charon that allowed him to sense when Than, as a little boy, was about to shift somewhere he shouldn’t before the fact, or to catch Hypnos’ head just before it hit a table or some other hard surface when he fell asleep, never quite woke up inside Than. They never stirred, alerting him that he was about to set off one of Moros’ moods. Never told him how to respond when his little brother was sent into a fit of tears because he saw another horrific fate he couldn’t even put into words, beyond broken bits: a liver, a woman with hair like fire and a broken tongue, a swallowing of flesh, they’re going to die, they’re all going to—But Than feels those instincts now.

“Oh, what’s this?” Aphrodite leans closer, her endless eyes glinting. “No, no! Allow your mind to wander again, dearest!”

Shaking himself, Thanatos returns to his body. “I—Pardon?”

Aphrodite taps a nail against his gorget, just where it rests over his sternum. “You were thinking of that little godling, weren’t you? I can tell these things!” She dips her head, giving him a conspiratorial look. “You light right up…”

Sweat prickles down Thanatos’ spine. “I-I see.”

I was thinking about Persephone in MO while eating dry cereal in the middle of the night, as one does, and somehow I ended up thinking about the time my cousin (who is like a decade older than my mom for context) casually mentioned that my mother was once almost kidnapped when she was a child and my cousin saved her as if this was common knowledge and not life-altering news that made me look back at my mother's almost obsessively overprotective and unhinged behavior that defined my childhood and go "oh my god?" Which could mean nothing.

If they put my fics back up tomorrow(? or in the next few days?), I won't be notified. If they delete them, then I'll get an email.

For my sanity, I'm going to try not to check constantly tomorrow. I'm also not actually sure if they will get to it tomorrow. Communication has... not been great. And tbh I haven't bothered trying to contact them bc in the past, I haven't received responses, so I figured it would be the same with this lol.

What I'm trying to say is that if things go well, I may not know immediately. When I do get news, I'll post here. But again, I make no promises about that news coming in a timely manner. I'm really sorry about that. I know people have been anxious about it, but I really have felt like absolute shit due to this and personal stuff (subluxed my shoulder recently, etc.) so I just can't stomach monitoring this too much.

Hey there! It makes me so sad you feel you have to apologize for not updating a fic. You've brought me so much joy with midnight ocean, and even if you decide to stop now and never write again, I'm so grateful for the stories you've shared.

Also I'm so sorry you were in an accident!!! I really hope you're okay all things considered. Sounds like one of those moments where life is happening all at once (and not necessarily in good ways), and I so empathize. I hope you're taking care of yourself and being kind to yourself, and I hope you can do what you need to without letting the pressuring comments get to you.

I’m so sorry this is happening to you. It’s really shitty that people are only interacting with your works now that they’re worried about midnight ocean. I’m an author too (just write stuff for me and my friends), and it really sucks when I send my friends a new chapter for one of my stories and they only respond with “okay but when’s the next chapter for the other story”. I hope everything goes well for you.

It really is a universal writer experience rip... I can definitely appreciate people having favorites, but it's such a disheartening feeling when you have exchanges like that.

Part of it is also just how stressful this situation has been, it's hard not to take things worse than usual. Especially when I wasn't even able to respond to anyone on Ao3 lol.

I also had a very funny experience in the past when someone kept going on about my other fics not being as good, though they said it in a way that was like a backhanded compliment, and said vaguely shady things about my fics on social media until I finally realized "This person is trying to make me feel bad... ohhh...." So I guess I'm just particularly irritated by behavior that at all calls that to mind, even though once I realized why they were doing it, it became funny, at least.
