Can you analysis Laitos bloody bouquet short story? His is the only one that is sad and im confused as to why https://www.tumblr.com/dialovers-translations/643024225265958912/diabolik-lovers-bloody-bouquet-short-story-the?source=share here it is if you wanna read it.
YES!! Oh my gods I forgot about this for a second, but it’s one of the reasons I think Rejet handles Laito’s character SO WELL in terms of his trauma.
Bloody Bouquet Analysis
Okay, so, a quick summary for those who don’t know, this is a short story from Laito’s POV before his wedding with Yui. As the anon mentioned, it’s more sad/bittersweet than one would expect. The reason for this being, in my opinion, that Laito doesn’t have a good relationship with the thought of marriage. See here:
He says it himself that it has nothing to do with Yui; he loves her fully and truly at this point. It’s his own issues. And it makes sense he would be apprehensive of the thought of marriage. Think about it: his only exposure to ‘marriage’ as an idea was through Cordelia, a woman who was put through HELL because of it. Cordelia’s marriage didn’t bring her any joy, just jealousy and stress and resentment and it made her worse.
Also, as he states, marriage is supposed to be a “strong emotional promise built on the exchange of vowing one’s eternal love”. Love. A word he’s said to many woman over and over and over again, to get what he wants. Cordelia did the same, that’s where he got it from, and she was married as well. And we know Laito doesn’t trust words, promises, they mean nothing to him. He’s made so many that he never meant or kept, so of course he doesn’t fully trust this one.
As he says:
He’s never thought of marriage as something worthwhile or positive, as Yui seems to. And yes, he’s finally in a loving and healthy relationship, but those feelings will never go away for him because he felt them for so long. But there’s another part to this. He says:
Laito’s scared. He’s scared that Yui will see his apprehension and displeasure at marriage and try to leave him because of it. And so he’ll try to placate her (though I don’t believe ‘false love’ means he doesn’t love her, just that he’ll be lying about being happy with marrying her). And he’s also scared that his marriage with Yui will turn out like his mother’s and father’s. That they’ll be unhappy and end up resenting each other, that they’ll grow apart. Because that’s the only exposure to marriage he’s had.
Yes, he knows that it’s different between them. But the fear, the anxiety, is still there. Of course it is. That’s why it seems like he’s crying at the end.
And this is why Rejet handles Laito’s character so well with this in my opinion, because he doesn’t just ‘get over’ his deep seated trauma. He’s still dealing with what he went through, and it will take years for him to overcome. It’s different than the others because he’s just starting to be truly honest with not just Yui, but HIMSELF about his feelings. This is all new to him.
And so yeah!! That’s why I think this one is more bittersweet than the others. Thanks for reading my ramblings, hopefully it made sense- And thanks for the ask, anon!!!
I’ve been thinking about this and I have something to add to my earlier points‼️‼️‼️
Another reason Laito’s is sad, especially in comparison to the other boys’, is because of what stage of healing he’s in. For example, he says “However, is it too much to ask for me to have her perceive the fact that I became honest with my feelings for even a split second as something positive?”
Laito is known for ignoring everything that makes him uncomfortable, going so far as to deny the fact that he even had a mom in one of the games. This makes the idea of him opening up so much harder. Because, when it comes to the other boys, at least they somewhat ACKNOWLEDGE their trauma. They don’t deny that it ever happened, they recognize it. And that’s what allows Yui to help them process it easier.
His Bloody Bouquet is sad because, at this point in the story, his ‘breakthrough’ moment with his trauma is everyone else’s starting points.
People have been talking about that one headcanon post so I just wanna throw my hat in the ring: It’s been, what, seven years since we got a last major installment? The boys definitely could have learned about the modern world since then. So I mean things could’ve changed since then.
Soooo. Laito cold anger/rahe headcanons? Canonically all we know that when something goes wrong and when he gets irritated he starts to talk fast. Also he has suicidal tendencies (manga). But what about rage? I don’t see him as someone who punches walls (like some albino car)
We actually do have an example of Laito raging!!! It’s in Dark Fate, after he learns about Karlheinz’s plans; like how all of his wives were simply pawns and all his children were experiments.
Laito goes absolutely BALLISTIC. He’s screaming, banging at the door to Eden so hard his hand starts bleeding. And he doesn’t even care, he just NEEDS to confront Karlheinz.
This case of ‘rage’ is probably a special one, though, because this is where Laito learns (or begins to believe) that he was born to simply be a part of Karlheinz’s game and has no real purpose besides being a test subject. He’s mad not just for himself, but for his brothers and, surprisingly, his mother. Because he learns that here, she is a victim too.
If it was more in a domestic setting, not a world-shattering realization, I believe that Laito’s rage is quiet. He’ll be cruel until he can’t. If he gets pushed too far, that’s when the yelling comes out. He won’t punch walls like Subaru, but he would break things. Throw them, crush them, whatever. Or he’d break whoever he was mad at. It depends on if he lets it get to that level.
Hi I would like to ask if you have any laito fanfic recommendations in mind, also I just wanted to ask if you have any with your oc would love to check it out
AHH omigosh- I don’t have anything with Kyou (she perpetually lives in my notes app I fear), BUT I do have Laito fanfic recs!!! Note that these will probably be angst heavy, though, so keep that in mind. I also haven’t read fics in a good bit, so I only have a few:
Anything by InvertedPhantasmagoria, but specifically her PetAus are just… augh…
This Is Primetime, Reload And- by i_write_hurt_not_comfort is so peak, it explores Laito’s psyche so well
Anything by cryingstars13, honestly you should check out her non-Laito fanfics too because they’re so good
firstly, wishing you the most fantabulous outcome on state-testing!!!!!!! <333
and you call this not-fleshed out??? i feel like i already know kyou on a personal level. when i was working on the first draft of lu’s route, i was basically hallucinating new plot points on the spot (def why she went from 'quirky traumatized girlie-pop' to 'we are deep in the trenches of wtf' bc i have zero self-control when it comes to angsting lol)
was most delighted to give you the opportunity to yap :3 i actually really love this idea exploring what happens after the whole ‘adam-eve’ thing works out, especially with how much rejet makes it the ‘be all, end all’ (like fr, what does karl actually intend on happening after the plan is over and done with, yk?). going back to hdb’s micro-focus of psychosocial dynamics, sign me up :D
and your fwb to starcrossed-lovers arc for kyou/laito… *chef’s kiss*
the ‘not biting back because teenage boys taste gross’ snatched my wig. gurl’s sass is unmatched. i also adore that she’s not his ‘fixer’. in a house full of people trying to dissect or break each other, having kyou just be like "this is him, i know him, he’s his own person" is the 100% kind of non-transactional validation fedora man desperately needs (and kanato being a salty gremlin bc he’s the only single one left is just… deeply canon behaviour. teddy can only do so much for those mood swings, poor thing :’) )
the image of night cuddles wth the wings is giving me kitten-purrito, freakin’ adorable. i don’t know why but i can really see the two of them enjoying a theme park date, where fedora man is trying to win her arcade prizes or impress her with his skills on those ddr machines only to get schooled (in good fun) by kyou. like, man’s drowning in plushies and looking at her like she’s the entire sun
and seeing your playlist, the vibes it’s giving off has some recs percolating in my brain:
mitski- if i leave + lightening
tomora- my baby
radiohead- dreamers + true love waits
sorry for the wall of text. but…. just wanted to say, i fully support a fully-fleshed out route (should the mood ever hit u) or any indulgent writings on the pair OwO
AAAAAHEHEHHEEEE I’M SO GLAD YOU LIKE KYOU‼️‼️‼️ I’ve had her just swirling around in my head for so long… Thanks for the recommendations to the playlist too, I’ll DEF check those out!!
As for indulgent writings, I have so many ideas… augh just putting words to them is so hard… if only I could animate… or I’d need to find prompts or something to get me started
in my desperate need to take a breather from essay hell, im here to ask the pressing questions. what's kyou's backstory, how did her whirlwind romance with fedora man come about, and how are the bros taking it??? like give me the tea queen, i must know it all OwO
OH MY GODS you have NO IDEA how excited I was when I saw this ask… like we literally finished state testing and I got my phone back and immediately got SO GIDDY‼️‼️ LIKE‼️‼️ I GET TO YAP‼️‼️ I will preface by saying she’s not as fleshed out as some other OCs I’ve seen, and a lot of stuff I have about her is vibes-
OKAY SO! For your questions:
a) Kyou’s backstory:
Honestly quite simple, she’s the only heiress to the Adler Clan and therefore can turn into an eagle. OH ALSO I took creative liberties and she has eagle wings even in her human(oid?) form because why not and also the idea of late night cuddles with bird wings wrapping around the two like a burrito is so cute.
When it comes to her family, I have the basis, but specific details of names of other people like her parents and stuff are left out (a testament to how little they matter in the end). What I do have about her mother and father is that both are VERY big on appearances and keeping up healthy alliances, especially with Karlheinz (that’s important for later).
Kyou was always told to be very proper, respectful, and at least polite if she can’t be kind. Considering every emotion she’s ever had can be easily read on her face, you can tell how that works out.
b) Her and Laito:
They FIRST met as kids, at some sort of ball kinda like the one Edgar and Shu went to. Both of them were really young, meaning she got to see and know him before the Cordelia stuff happened (really important for when they’re older and Laito tries his ‘new’ personality on her; “There’s a difference between maturing and hiding.”)
They met again when they were much older, about a year after Yui showed up at the mansion. Kyou was NOT wanting to be the leader of the Adler Clan, and had been acting out because of it. As a punishment, she was sent to the Human Realm until she ‘got her act together’. Karlheinz, 1) knowing that her and Laito knew each other and had been close and 2) seeing that his Adam/Eve plan would work out with Yui and Ayato and therefore didn’t need his other soms to not fall in love, offered to have the Sakamaki’s take her in to ‘make sure she was safe’ or something. Honestly, he was just being a little shit and playing matchmaker.
Laito was the first person she gravitated towards, since she knew him before. Seeing that he had changed his personality so much, she IMMEDIATELY clocked that something was wrong. Kyou eventually coaxed it out of Ayato, who explained Cordelia.
Exactly when they fell in love isn’t actually clear to either one of them, though. It was more like a situationship, not just friends but not exclusively dating type thing. FWB that somehow turned into something more, if you will. They don’t really have a label on it even now, it’s just clear to everyone that she is his and he is hers.
Kyou doesn’t try to ‘fix’ or ‘help’ Laito, since she doesn’t really view that as her business. At least, she doesn’t take on that role by herself. If Laito GOES to her for help, then she’ll help. She doesn’t feel comfortable inserting herself there, since he’s his own person.
She will NOT take any shit from him, however. Since she got such a good read on him as a kid before it all went to shit, she can tell the difference between what he’s truly feeling and how he’s acting. She won’t call him out on it unless it’s actively hurting him or someone else, though.
I mentioned before that Kyou has a very readable face. This is what allows Laito to start to open up and trust her more, because he can tell that she’s being sincere. When I say she’s a bad liar, I mean she’s REALLY bad at lying…
c) The other brothers:
Overall, they’re all somewhat happy for Laito in their own way. Even they can tell that he’s doing better with her. Especially Ayato; this allows him to let go of some of that guilt he was feeling.
Shu, Reiji, and Subaru specifically don’t really have too much of an opinion on it besides what I said above. Ayato’s really happy, and Kanato’s the smallest bit pissed he’s the only single one.
Also, Ayato’s stoked about being the King with Yui.
d) Other things I wanna include because why not:
Reiji was REALLY serious for the first few weeks of Kyou being there about ‘rehabilitating her to be an heiress’. It would’ve been funny to her if it wasn’t absolutely annoying having him breathing over her neck.
Kyou’s feathers puff up when she gets startled, kinda like a cat’s tail. Ayato REALLY wants to see that, but he is never able to actually get the better of her. Shu did once, though, on accident. He’s secretly very smug about it.
Speaking of which, the brothers are all FASCINATED by her wings.
Kyou doesn’t need blood to live, like the others do, so she sometimes goes shopping with Yui for snacks and stuff as a way to bond.
She will not, under any circumstances, bite Laito back. Because teenage boys taste gross. And while’s he’s technically centuries old, his body is still that of a 17 year old’s and therefore the blood is icky. Laito does not appreciate being told that.
There’s probably more that I forgot but I’m just so happy I get to Yap that it’s fineeee- thank you so much for asking this omg <33
edit: I realized later this seems a LITTLE too happy about their relationship, so have my playlist of songs through various stages of them:
Shu is Atalanta. Moments from his past tried to catch up to him in the race of his mind, but he always won. He always beat them, killed them, shoved them back into the box they escaped from. Until he showed up. One memory, one person from his past he couldn’t forget. Someone seemingly blessed by the gods, if he’d been able to have this hold on Shu’s mind. And so despite himself, for some reason, he pauses during this race. He inspects every apple that’s thrown, every moment from the past. Looking from something, anything, that might have led to a different path. Had a different outcome. Changed the fate that he was stuck to now — maybe a happier one could have existed, if he’d seen the path that would lead them there. And so, for the first time, he loses that race.
Reiji is Midas. One could say he has it all. That he’s a King among demons, with the wealth and power that comes with his lineage. But he wants more. Selfishly, he wants his father’s attention. Praise. Acknowledgment. Anything. He taints everything he touches, searching for ways to make his father happy, proud. His relationships with the others, his relationship with himself. His life, his hobbies, how he spends his time. Because the wealth wasn’t enough. It’s all for his father, for that attention he so craved. And only too late did he realize just how much he’d ruined searching for it.
Laito is Tantalus. As funny as the idea of him having a son is, that’s not why he is this myth. Laito is Tantalus because he doesn’t want to change. Because instead of trying to better himself, to separate that part of him from who he is as a person, he lets it infect his personality. His every day life. He cuts it up into tiny pieces, injects it into himself. He feeds this infection, this trauma, to everyone he meets — unbeknownst to them. And now he can never truly find happiness. The fruit, the water, the wine, it all escapes him no matter how hard he tries to reach for it now. It’s too late; he’s too far gone.
Kanato is Phaethon. In that chariot because he feels he deserves it. But he cannot control it. The horses are too unstable, they don’t listen to him no matter how hard he tries. He flies too close to the ground, burning everything in reach with rage. Then he flies too far from the Earth, freezing everything out. There’s no rhyme or reason to it, he just flips. Hot, cold, hot, cold, hot, cold. On and on and on and on, in circles, until someone forcefully puts a stop to it. And by that point, he’s dead.
Ayato is Icarus. The boy who flew too close to the sun, a tale of one who didn’t listen to his father’s warnings. But it wasn’t disobedience that caused him to die. It was that feeling of freedom. For a child who had been locked up so long, kept away from everyone, to be suddenly given a device that would grant him all he wanted and more? How could one expect him to self regulate? To know when to pump the breaks on his freedom, to stay contained, when he’d been forced to be that way his whole life?
Subaru is Sisyphus. The one who selfishly cheated death. But he didn’t do it for himself. He did it for his mother. His reason was still selfish, he knew, but while tying up Thanatos, shoving the God of the Dead under his bed to keep him from taking her, he didn’t care. He tried so hard; to keep her sane, to keep her with him. Because, despite what she’s done, she’s still his mother. Letting her die now would be a cruel victory to his father, the one who made her this way. At least that’s what he tells himself.
Yui is Pandora. A woman, a punishment hidden as a gift. She clutches a vase in her hands, a gift from the gods. Sadly she was bestowed with curiousity instead of self-preserverance. She opens the vase, and horrible things jump out at her and the world. Trauma, fear, anger, violence, it all shows itself to her because of her curiosity. And yet she holds onto Hope. Because Hope is the one thing she knows to never let go of, no matter how hard things get. No matter how hard everything is thrown at her or how much she has to deal with, Yui holds onto Hope. Because without it, what else does she have?
sakamaki mansion is a maze atp but I think there's 2 grand staircases (cant stand rich ppl bro😒)
big ass house 4 no reason 💀
I’ve literally given myself a headache trying to figure out this house…
OH and there’s another set of stairs I’ve found out. Connected to the hallway we see Ayato in. It’s in the corner of this screenshot. Where does it go? Who the fuck knows‼️‼️‼️
It could be the railing of the entrance stairway, but it seems too close to be that. So. I think I might start placing shit based on vibes…
I’m having so many issues and I just… I need help here visualizing this.
So I’m trying to make the Sakamaki mansion in Minecraft, as one does. I know what the outside looks like, how it’s like three sides of a square missing the back. What I’m confused about are these entrance stairs.
I see that they go up and wrap around, which makes sense for the layout. My question is how do we then get to the living room, which seems to be connected to these same set of stairs??
Is the living room off to the right, connected by the stairs as well as that hallway we see (where Yui meets Ayato)? But then there’s the scene where Yui runs through the place to the entrance, so like how does she get there from the living room? Did she go back the way she came, did she go up the stairs, was there a secret THIRD way??? I’m just. So confused.
Like I knew I’d have to probably guess for where the boys’ rooms are and everything, but having to decipher the Labyrinth that is this mansion is not what I was expecting. It really seems like Karlheinz called in Daedalus to build this shit to mess with me specifically.
I personally don’t have much stock in this topic either way (I ship AyaYui but like. I really don’t care if others do lmao) but I will say: don’t be surprised that others are being hostile if you’re being hostile as well. This is for both sides.
“But they started-“ I don’t care.
“I’m just giving them their energy back-“ You’re continuing to be rude. Lowering yourself to their level. Be the bigger person, and most importantly be CIVIL. Please. If you can’t articulate your point in a way that does not throw insults towards others, then you probably should not be getting involved. There’s block buttons for a reason.
This is a visual novel otome game. I can guarantee nothing is ever that serious.
OwO hey bestie~!
perchance (when you're feeling up to it--no rush!!!) you could write a somewhat angsty/comfort short fic of our fave fedora man waking up to seeing his s/o in bed with him, clinging (maybe crying or about to) because she is upset (perhaps from a nightmare or something else--I'll let you decide the flavour)
i trust you know what to do, so I bestow on you full creative freedom :3
Nightmare
It was the feeling of hands clutching his clothes that woke him up. Grabbing, shaking him. Though not in the lustful, needy way he was used to — it was more desperate. Like clawing.
The sobs hit his ears next. Heaving, gasping things, the likes of which he’d promised himself he’d never be the cause of again. Especially from this voice.
Laito heaved himself onto his elbows, the fog of sleep clouding his vision still. His arms moved on autopilot, wrapping around your shaking body next to him, his hands petting softly at your hair. He had the most fleeting thought that this person was not here when he had went to bed — some fight you’d had about something or other, he couldn’t quite remember at this time, causing you to sleep in your own room — yet he pushed it away for favor of comforting.
“I’m sorry,” your voice choked out through sobs, your hands on his shirt trembling. “I-I didn’t want to bother you, but I couldn’t- couldn’t deal with-“
Laito cut you off by pressing your face into his sleep shirt, a hand stratching at the back of your scalp. He laid his head on top of your messy hair, taking in the soft scent of you. “It’s alright,” he mumbled, voice still thick with sleep. “There’s no need to apologize. Not to me.”
You stayed quiet for a moment, and he knew you were thinking of what to say. Some sort of apology, no doubt, a way to say sorry for this despite him telling you not to. Because that’s just the type of person you are. Despite how much you take care of him, the mere thought of bothering others with your problems doesn’t even cross your mind. And that irks him.
“…This is really stupid.” Your voice came out low, shaky. “It… was just a dream. Not real. I don’t know why I…”
You trailed off, and Laito tightened his grip on you. He leaned back against the headboard of his bed, pulling you to lay on top of him. “It’s not stupid,” he replied, running a hand up and down your back with low pressure. “Dreams can hurt.”
You looked up at him, ready to push back, to continue saying how stupid this all felt, but you paused when you saw him already staring down at you; eyes full of words he didn’t say. ‘I of all people would know.’ ‘They haunt me still.’ ‘And you help me through them.’ ‘Let me help you through this.’
Whether it was remnants of sleep or some other problem, he couldn’t bring himself to say them. Acknowledging them outloud was too hard. But you knew. You always did.
Whatever protest, whatever insistence of stupidity you had, died in your throat. You had searched him out for a reason in despite of that nagging part of your brain. Settling against his body, you closed your eyes and focused on his touch. Soft, not needy. Caring, not lustful. He never pressed, never asked for any explanations you weren’t readily providing. He was just there, a constant in whatever mess had brought you to him.
This was inspired by a post by @dialalagirl that I’ll link here. Just a short little drabble, hope you like it!!
——————————————————————
“Ghk- be careful!”
You rolled your eyes, pulling back a bit to give the man beneath you a look. “…Really?”
“You’re being too rough!!”
“You’re an indestructible vampire, yet me tugging on your face slightly is ‘too rough’?”
Subaru narrowed his eyes, letting out a huff of air as he glanced to the side. “…shut up. Just… get this over with.”
You situated yourself better on his legs, a needle in one hand as you shifted his face to get a better angle in the other. You could feel the heat radiating off of the flushed skin, and no matter how adamently he would deny it, you knew he enjoyed this. The weight of you on top of him, the feeling of your hand softly holding his chin, just the proximity in general made his head spin with nothing but you, you, you.
His gaze found yours once more, observing the way you studied him. The focus in your eyes, the slight peek of your tongue in concentration he wasn’t even sure you were aware of… Subaru forced his mind to stop, not wanting you to notice the way he was becoming increasingly flustered.
Oh, but you did. How could you not? He was squirming all over the place, like he wanted to simultaniously get closer to you and run away.
“It’s your job to stay still,” you hummed, raising an eyebrow down at him.” “Unless you want me to do this wrong.”
Subaru’s adam’s apple bobbed up and down once before he rolled his eyes halfheartedly. “Ya sure you’ve done this before?”
“Maybe you should’ve asked that before I got on top of you,” was your reply as you reached back for rubbing alcohol to clean bridge of his nose. “But yes, I have.”
He kept his eyes on you, not even a single wince coming from him when you finally pierced his nose. The titanium bar was pushed in, two little metal spheres now protruding from the piercing. It looked good on him, something apparent from the way your fingers lingered there.
“…Tch. You don’t have to stare,” he mumbled, averting his gaze finally. “How… does it look?”
“Good,” you replied, trailing your hand down to his cheek. “It fits your face well.”
You could feel the heat emitting from his pink skin, delighting yourself in the way he was always so flushed around you. His eyes darted everywhere — around the room, across your face. Anywhere but your eyes now, the hand on his face being too much.
Subaru took in a deep breath, reluctantly pushing himself up onto his elbows. “I guess so.”
A moment of silence. Of no movement, of comfort where you two stayed close to each other.
