Other Companies trying to stay relevant: *post a tweet or tiktok three weeks late*
Tumblr: *designs and markets a vanilla extract water bottle*
ok everyone we had a good run but it’s time to cancel the meme now
Tumblr has been actively losing money, can’t attract worthwhile advertisers, and can’t support influencers. This is the bare minimum the business can do otherwise. Although I would agree that @relientk needs recognition (although legally speaking tumblr is our publisher).
Yeah I mean….tumblr DOES kinda need money to function as a site. And they could go about it in the malicious and invasive ways that other social media sites (such as twitter and facebook) are doing, but instead they’re offering fun features like gifting crabs or buying rainbow checkmarks that don’t have a negative impact on your experience if you choose not to purchase, and turning tumblr staples and jokes into merch that people can buy.
I mean, I would like a free bottle because I’m the source of the vanilla extract meme and wasn’t even aware they were selling a water bottle until people began tagging me, but I’m all for them selling cool merchandise that keeps the site up and running.
update: he got one!
Tumblr users, please. PLEASE.
PLEASE.
Stop reacting to Tumblr and AO3 moneymaking the same way or worse than how you react to other corporations. Tumblr is losing money and is doing it’s damnedest to not be absolutely covered with ads. Nobody is forcing you to buy the goddamned water bottle. This IS a really cool thing they’re doing. They’re showing us they care and are paying attention. I personally think that’s kinda cool.
It wasn’t fun
Not me screaming at this because I bought a book about Lafayette… or trying to understand more about American revolution, or John Laurens…
koreelspeth:
Chise kept her hand extended as the “beast” came closer, her body still asked, if not begged, for her to run, the noise it made was practically the last warning, she got nervous then, mainly because she thought of Elias, and that if something happened to her, he’d definitely be upset. Funny how she thought of that first, rather than thinking of her well-being.
She pulled back her arm, taking the snack between her hands, breaking it in smaller pieces —Maybe it’s too big for you?— she took one of the bites and offered to it again —Try it… it’s really good— her voice didn’t show how nervous she really was, or even a hint of her being alert, no, it was a neutral, quite calm (almost uninterested) tone, truth was, the silence around them it was driving her crazy, talking was her way to calm herself —Am I too far deep in the forest?— seemed to ask it —I know I’m not really, because fairies haven’t been around bugging me to follow them… but I have never seen you before…— somehow, Chise felt the beast relaxed, and so she did.
Ruth snapped his jaw, clicking his teeth, then shook his head. Though, it was less of a threat and more of a conformation. Communication hadn’t ever really been his strong suit. Red eyes burned into hers. How could she be so calm? Had he lost his touch? Or had the Fair Folk turned him into something less threatening when he wasn’t looking? A quick glance back revealed that to be false. So, he returned his gaze to her.
Her voice was soothing, in a way. Something he hadn’t heard in a long time. It tickled his brain and dulled his instincts. It felt… nice, in a way. Maybe letting her walk away was right. Regardless, she didn’t seem to pose a threat. A threat? He shook his head again, hoping to shake loose some of the fog that wormed its way into his mind.
A step closer, then another, before those long sharp teeth gingerly took the bite from her. It was rude to not accept such a polite offer, after all.
The girl smiled when it got close to take the small snack she offered, maybe this wasn’t bad at all, having some company at the forest. After all, as a sleigh beggy, she has grown to get used to all kind of creatures surrounding her all the times, it was just she hadn’t seen one like it yet… —See? It’s good— said smiling. The creature may not talk at all, but had a way of its own to express itself, that was important. Knowing what the other needs allows her to know how to help, at least that was a very easy way to work when making her medicine, well… she pretty much just did whatever Elias asked of her; and she was okay with that, at least for now… not like she had anything else to pursue or achieve… unconsciously she took another bite for it to eat.
Sun in the sky was starting to settle down, and she noticed until her eyes had a bit of problem to adjust. Chise looked up and started to pick up her stuff —I’m sorry, I have to go now… have to go back home, see?— said smiling, she had a home to go back to. She placed her book back in her bag and stood up… —I didn’t mean to scare you… but thank you for accompanying me today…
᪥Chise has started to get used to her new life in England, and Elias was nice company to be by; she felt somehow compromised to correspond his attentions, but at the same time, he gave her some freedom she never knew before. As for her she was still confused by him calling her “His Bride” but then again, that was something they could talk about later; for now, and to be specific, for the day, He had gave her an enormous book “Go to the forest” he said “read it and try to memorise anything you find interesting” that was the whole instruction. “I’ll be gone for a couple of hours, I’ll visit Father Simon an be back later” he then petted her head as he used to do it “Be back home before sunset, take care, Chise” and saying so, he left the house, not so much later, Silver, the banshee that took care of the place gave her a bag full of snacks and drinks for her to fulfil her task. Apart from studying, he also asked her to pick up some herbs and plants they later use for their medicines and potions they crafted for the people in the town. She was His Apprentice as well, something not really ethic for her, but then again, she didn’t really know what he really meant with all the things he called her.
She went right for it, and tried to not get so far into the forest, she already knew what could happen to her if she did so, but even now, she felt more comfortable with all the magic creatures that followed her, luckily most of them weren’t harmful at all.
She sat down under a tree after collecting all she needed, to take a break, eat something, and re-read the book, by the position of the sun, she at least had a couple of hours to dedicate it to this task.᪥

There was a weird scent on the air. Something unfamiliar, something… foreign. Fae weren’t uncommon; Ulysse had pretty been forced to get used to that smell. But, this was different. There was some strange mix of Human and Fae. It was also too close, whatever it was. And he couldn’t stand for that. His whole existence was to guard the gates to the Underworld. It didn’t matter who or what from. He had done it for centuries without fail.
The shadow drew from its place around a small, hidden cave. It slowly coalesced into a terrifyingly large black Wolfhound. Wisps branches off and disappeared, the fur moving like smoke. He huffed softly, shook his long head, and began tracking. Massive paws padded nearly silently forward as he sniffed out the trail. A few little things scattered at the sight of him, otherworldly and terrestrial alike. He appreciated the lack of distractions. A few minutes had brought him ever closer to this odd creature.
Crouching down in bushes nearby, he laid burning red eyes on what appeared… plainly human. The smell was decisively not human, however. Vibrant red hair seemed to shimmer in the light, magic adding to it. Green eyes scanned a book, unaware of the creature waiting close by. He paused for only a moment before letting out a low, threatening growl. If she stayed, he’d rip her to shreds. If she ran, he would chase until she refused to return.
Meanwhile, she was absorbed enough in her book, the food was way too good, way too good, Silver did miracles in her kitchen; she smiled at that thought. When was actually the last time she had a proper meal before arriving here? She didn’t really remember, not like she wanted to do so either, those memories were painful, and made her body hurt… and invited the bad creatures to be around her, so it would be better to stop thinking about that, it started aching, and soon she’d see that window scene again.
She was about to give her sandwich another bite when a low growl filled the surroundings, making her look up looking for the source of said sound. It was quick for her to set her sight on the vibrant red eyes that looked directly towards her. She clearly felt how her heart beat violently against her chest, she couldn’t look anywhere else but directly to its bloody red eyes… her whole body went directly into fight or flight mode. But she couldn’t make herself move in any direction. Simply breathing by mere survival instinct.
Her arm extended offering the food towards the creature, like if it was a puppy or something like that, not the menacing creature practically in front of her, maybe Elias conditioned her too much… maybe not. She swallowed hard trying to stay focus on the whole situation, Elias would get angry if something bad happened to her, would he be disappointed of her?
She had to act soon or things would get messy. Her lips parted softly to sigh a barely listenable —Hi—
There was a pause in the threatening noise. That was… unexpected to say the least. Very few things actively stayed when he took form. And that tended to be in their best interest. Yet, here was this girl, this child, staying put, just watching him.
He glanced down. And apparently offering food? It also was unexpected. His eyes raised up to her face again. Another low rumble came from him. He shifted slightly on his front paws, crouching some, as if to run at her.
There wasn’t a need to chase her down. There wasn’t even a need to come this far, if she was as unaware as she seemed. Her red hair tugged on something inside of him. Maybe a different face? A different time? She was just a young girl. She had a life ahead of her. It was surely to be full of happiness and love. She didn’t need to be dispatched violently. Right?
He snuffed at the offering. He still had a job. He was to guard and protect. That was his whole purpose in life. Nothing came before. At least, not that he could remember. It had been a long time.
Guard and protect. Guard and protect.
In spite of this, he nosed forward.
Chise kept her hand extended as the “beast” came closer, her body still asked, if not begged, for her to run, the noise it made was practically the last warning, she got nervous then, mainly because she thought of Elias, and that if something happened to her, he’d definitely be upset. ꧁From cutting the branch, from Nevin’s tree, falling and failing a couple of times, to the bedtime stories told by Lindel, playing sometimes with the hatchlings and Ruth, to spend the day by herself, craving her wand. Day by day, Chise could only think of one thing, going back home to Elias.
Life has never been easy, nor enjoyable, even less when flashbacks from her childhood flooded her mind, which curiously enough, happened less frequently since she was bought by Him. Being used to have the sight has been quite of a task, yet, less frightening than before, assimilating she was nor only an apprentice, but also somehow a magical creature was still weird, and of course, the (yet) indescribable feelings she started to develop for Elias…
Her hands stopped for a bit, the branch was now a very straight wand, missing a top, looking almost like a walking stick, it was explained to her it will help her to canalise her magic, and she already understood the connection between it and her, but it was tiring. Ruth noticed this, licking gently her hand “Aren’t you supposed to talk to yourself while working?” Asked almost in an insensitive way, truth be told, Chise did not want to do so, doing so implicated having to be honest with herself, and with her feelings, AND with her feelings towards Elias, the possibility made her shiver in response, Ruth sighed heavily and went back to sleep.
Her hands went back, and forward, and around, until she felt satisfied with the final result. Lindel helped her with a couple of gems, and getting all together, but her will to be back home was stronger, she NEEDED Elias to help her finish her wand, and… to let him know what she thought it would be buried forever in her heart.꧂
Elias hums and slowly falls asleep.
The next morning he wakes and watches Chise for a bit. She was.... beautiful. Slowly he was begining to understand his emotions and how he was feeling when he was with her or without her. His studying was paying off.
Once he's dressed he wonders if he should let Chise sleep for a while longer or wake her up. After about five minutes of just wondering what he should do, Silky comes in to let him know breakfast is ready.
Well that settles it. "Chise....wake up, breakfast is ready." Elias gently taps her shoulder to help wake her while Ruth comes in and waits with him.
The night serves her a good rest, to be fair honest, sleeping next to Elias was fair different… from whatever she could have ever imagined, sure, since she left Japan and he bought her, her sleep schedule changed drastically, and eventually, since Ruth slept wit her, she slept better, but sharing the bed with Elias, was full of peace and a calm sensation she could barely remember, not quite new, but definitely not a very present one. She later understood, she felt plenty by his side, even when they still had a long way to go to understand fully their relationship.
Some dreams of the land of dragons were present, but nothing to important to save for telling them later or so, something similar to a nightmare or a bad memory also were over. It wasn’t until Elias’ voice hit her ears they slowly started to vanish, and were completely gone by the time he touched her. She lazily opened her eyes and saw him, trying to give him an unbothered smile “Good morning, Elias” and next, her eyes went on Ruth “Good morning, Ruth”, its tail started waging.

Elias nods. He can understand that much, he often didn't know how to express his emotions or the things he wanted to say either, so he would give her time.
"Okay, I'll wait for you to tell me the rest then. Let's get ready for bed." He stands and reaches a hand out for her, hoping she would take it so they could walk down the hall and upstairs together.
Once Elias had changed into his formal pajamas he gets ready to lay in bed, on his chest with his skull lays laying on the pillow in an odd fashion. He looked like a bear rug spread along someone's floor. "Chise, goodnight. I am glad you are home." He says as he slightly tilts his head towards her.
His words made her feel at ease, a bit, it was late, and going to bed sounded a fair good idea, she smiled towards him and took his hand, softly, they haven’t got tons of physical contact, and being far from home made the moment way more special than anyone would think.
They went up together, still holding hands, even though they were one in front of the other. She went t her room to change clothes to her pyjamas, Silky already chose them for her, a nice set of shirt and pants, quite similar in style to what Elias uses, but in pinkish tones.
She went back to Elias’ room, he, already chest laid on the mattress, his head resting on his pillow, she had to walk around the bed to get to the other side and lay next to him, gently, into the sheets. His voice soothed her as her hand caressed gently the side of his head still smiling, unaware of this gesture “I’m glad to be back, Elias” said almost in a whisper as she slowly fell asleep, as her hand rested on his shoulder. We’ll see what tomorrow brings to them.

Elias looks between Chise and Ruth.
Something was definitely up. Maybe she would talk to him about it later.
After dinner Elias walks down the hall to his study and turns to call for Chise. "We may talk now, if you'd like." He walks inside and begins to gather some of the books he had laying around from his past studies the day before. "So, Chise, what did you want to talk about?" Elias asks as she walks in.
She seemed more quiet than usual, nervous like Ruth had said. Elias tries to think of what it could be, since certainly it wasn't just about her wand. "Did something happen in the land of the dragons?" If anything had happened before he showed up he's sure he would have heard something about it, so maybe it wasn't that. "I had only shown up a few hours before you were finished."
Chise follow him close behind not so sure of how to start, the fact she was so eager to talk with him at the start banished in a second, and, now felt weird, what was she supposed to say? Elias wasn’t human, he didn’t understand feelings or emotions, so how could she approach to him speaking of something he was totally ignorant, but that was rude, how was she so sure he couldn’t understand her?
She took a deep breath, sitting down in a chair close to him, resting her hands on her knees “No, everything was fine” said between a sigh, there was no turning back, she smirked “so, you didn’t hear Lindel telling me about you… right?” She smiled looking longly to the fire in the chimney, “how was it here while I was gone? I thought you’d wait for me to come back… although I’m glad you were there… I’m glad to be back” concluded in a more relaxed tone.
Elias groans softly to himself. "I did not know he was talking about me....what did that old man say?" He leans his head into his hand as he leans forward. "Things here were.....cold." Elias sits up straight and looks to the fire with her.
"You may not talk much, but even so, somehow the house felt quiet, and cold. I even had the fire and the oven on. I've never felt that way before." He turns to face Chise again. "I've gotten used to your presence. I'd like for you not to leave alone."
It may have been a bit selfish to say, even Elias knows that, but having Chise so far feels wrong and he didn't wish to feel that way ever again.
Chise can’t help it but smile at his annoyance “Lindel just told me what I needed to know… kinda” she turned her face to him, and didn’t put any effort to hide the very bright pink blush her cheeks, so he felt lonely while she was gone? That actually changed the things, so now she should be able to tell him about how she felt “Elias…” said way to quietly, to maybe just catch his attention “I learnt a lot being in the land of Dragons, and also… made me feel more confident about my abilities” at this point Chise was speaking with her hands, and drawing her own eyes to them “but” now, it wasn’t the greatest of times to re-think what she already started, her hands went directly to her chest “it also felt a bit empty, here” after a few seconds in silence she finally looked up towards him “and I didn’t like that, neither”.
Elias tilts his head. "Empty?" So she had felt 'lonely' without him too? Is that what this was?
Loneliness
He had heard and read and perhaps felt it before but not like this. This was a for sure feeling, something he knew was happening rather than a fleeting moment. "Maybe we should stay with each other more often, to keep from feeling this way. I don't like you going off by yourself anyway, I can't watch you."
Sure Ruth was with her but he still would rather be able to protect her too. A strong sense of wanting to protect her was always in him when she went off on her own. It worried him. "Is that all, Chise?"
No, of course it wasn’t everything, but that seemed enough for the day, they both felt lonely, and they were able to express it, Chise felt it was quite a step in… in their relationship. She look at him, standing up from her place and kneeling down by his side, eyes not leaving his. “We should do that, yes…” although that last part wasn’t her favourite, being honest. She allowed herself to look longly at him. “No, Elias… it is not everything but…” honesty is the key, right? “I don’t feel ready yet to speak it up… but I’m thankful for what you shared with me” said with a soft smile “it is really important for me and I’ll treasure it” her hand rested now gently on his leg “Thank you, Elias”

He walks inside and begins to gather some of the books he had laying around from his past studies the day before.

"Talk?" Elias asks as he gently pushes her inside the house. "Yes, we can." He says as he takes off his robe and heads to the kitchen, pulling a chair out for Chise. "We can sit and talk, after dinner."
Ruth looks between the two of them and Elias wonders if he knows something that he doesn't. After all, Ruth knows Chise better than he does, likely more than he ever will. "Ruth, tell me if Chise needs anything, since she is usually quiet" Elias says as he sits.
Silky sets food down at the table and smiles at Chise, setting a special plate down for her. It seems Silky has waited for Chise to come home to share with her another of her dishes. As Elias looks around he finally notices how the house has changed as well. Was he really that focused on Chise that he hadn't even noticed the house when he came in?
She goes into the house and the warm feeling finally gets in every single pore of her skin, flooding her body, it takes her a while to notices the house is different now, not that she could say anything at the moment, as soon as Elias gets her into the house, Silky hugs her, refusing to let her go, so they just walk together to the kitchen, as she sits down, Ruth goes back to his human form to sit with them, as Silky gets ready the plates for everyone. Elias’ voice echoes in the room, making her shiver, Ruth stares at her, and then looks at Elias; “She’s nervous right now, but I cannot tell you why” says in the most neutral tone we have ever heard so far, Chise reaction confirms the statement, as she quickly takes a fork and grabs a bite of food trying to dismiss the attention from her, quick to answer as well “Creating my own wand has been a life changing experience, I’m still processing it!” Ruth looks back at her, she cannot lie to anyone, for sure. Chise barely touches her food trying to hide said nervousness.
Dinner goes by quite good, being back and able to share the time with everyone at home it’s nice, of course, a couple of minutes later Ruth finishes its plate and excuses itself from the table, Silky simply walks out the kitchen as she already made sure Chise ate properly, leaving them alone, night is already well settled upon them… she feels quite unsure in how to start, shall she just burst out her feelings? Should she explain herself first? Or it was a better idea to stand up and just hide in her room? Every option just felt worse than the last one, now she was incapable to look him in the eye for real.

Elias tilts his head down to look at Chise as she grabs his robe. He gently touches her shoulder, hoping that perhaps whatever she is feeling that his touch will ground her if she needs it.
"....Okay, I will take us home." He picks Chise up before a light around them glows. The wind rushes up around them and the scenery seems to be sucked in as they're spit out in front of the cottage. Silky waits by the door, smiling to herself.
"I am glad that your wand was done quickly." Elias says, even if he doesn't necessarily feel any emotions that could be described as 'glad', he just assumes that being home all alone and that....cold feeling had something to do with it. Now, back home with Chise, things feel warm again.
"Silky will have dinner ready soon, you're probably hungry." Elias says as he sets her down and Ruth appears like a shadow pulled from the ground next to them.
They had moved a couple of times like that, and she’d guess with the time it gets easier, but didn’t seem so, she always ended feeling dizzy and in the worst case, nauseous, not this time gladly. Maybe it was not the spell by itself, maybe was the sudden touch and the closeness to him and his chest, being so close to his face. It made her blush.
In a blink, they are back home, and, though being with Lindel was fine, being with Elias and the sight of Silky welcoming them from the door, it was different, a warmer feeling, she couldn’t help it but smile. His voice grounds her, still holding him by the robe, Ruth is already walking towards Silky, who receives it by pet its head. “I’d love to eat something, yeah” says smiling, the warm feeling grows in her chest, maybe it’s a good time to talk with him… “Elias?…”
Watching Ruth follow Silky in and the smell of food felt so much more like home than he remembered. The need for food wasn't present in his body very often but to have everyone together to eat supper felt....right.
Elias looks down at Chise and tilts his head. "Hm?"
Her eyes were shining like they always did but she seemed to have something on her mind. "Did you need something, Chise?" Elias asks softly, wondering if the quiet girl he had been teaching since now suddenly wanted to ask something of him.
She looks up to him, she knows she has to say something, the silence between them is getting awkward, she can only stare blankly at him, trying to find the words she just thought of when making her wand, those clear words now are just a thick fog in her mind, her lips part slightly, like encouraging herself to speak. She can’t.
Ruth barks grounding Chise back to earth, and as she realises, the soft pink in her cheeks turns into a bright red, bad timing, she thinks, incapable to express herself she lets go his robe and start walking back home “D-do you think…” starts with soft voice, almost too shy “we can spend the night together?” Her steps are short and not too fast “maybe we can just stay in the living room and… talk” says gravely, of course they have to talk…
