THE REACTION HE INVOKES FROM THE OTHER FOR HIS CHEESY ATTEMPTS AT AFFECTION MAKES HIM LAUGH , a loud , boisterous snort of a laugh . it’s so unlike him , this entire situation ——— he would know himself more than anyone else would , after all ——— but that’s what makes the other’s response all the more amusing , is what has him gasping for air in between the coughs wracking his body for he finds this much more humorous than the normal person would . [ though this particular act may be out of character for him , the idea of jealousy is not , is what brought this up in the very first place . it’s not that he’s concerned that akechi might be metaphorically swept off his feet by some random super fan of his ( he severely doubts it . ) it’s more-so the fact that his patience is thinning when it comes to his partner’s fan base ——— why they insist on trying to , ‘ steal his heart ‘ even when he shows no interest is beyond his realm of comprehension . ] there’s an intermission in between the time he had first started laughing | & | the time it takes to collect himself , hands seized by the remnants of the trembling previously paired with the act of his elation , but he pretends like it had never occurred in the first place , feigns ignorance .

( much akin to morgana , he is picky when it comes to who is allowed to touch him | & | who isn’t ——— however , he is much more fussy , considers himself , ‘ off limits ‘ to anyone who is not his partner-in-crime or his object of affection . )

[ he’s said similar things in the past . ]
❛ you know i love you , yeah ? i don’t think i say that shit enough . ❜ he thinks he might be going overboard with the endearment he has decided to show ——— if the nuzzling he proceeds to initiate says anything ——— but he can’t help himself , jealousy is one hell of a motivator . ❛ just thought i should let you know , that’s all . ❜
The laughing catches Akechi by surprise. It’s loud, and sudden, and from Akira, to what? - his embarrassment? His attention falls on him, and he blinks, slow. It hadn’t sounded forced, but genuine. It takes one to know one. The detective isn’t always entirely honest with his feelings, and fabricates a particular character for the media, exaggerates the truth, he would say. He doesn’t know how much Akira does this himself, but he can see a difference in how he is acting now. It’s refreshing.
“Cute? No... I don’t think we’re discussing the same person.” It’s fair, he thinks, to play a little here. Have a little debate. They always do it anyway, so this should be no different. It’s amusing to challenge Akira, he is always interested in seeing the reaction that comes from it. Each counter.
Fingers continue to run through his hair as he thinks, seeming to have lost focus for just a moment. He’s simply at home here. He can’t help himself. He could be here forever. He’s not sure it’s possible, but - he can dream, can’t he? The only thing that makes him wonder if he should move is the issue of Akira being chilled. He brings up that he could go find a blanket, but - he isn’t allowed. Akira disagrees with the idea. Ha, he’s enjoying this, isn’t he?- is it growing on him? He wasn’t as starved for affection as he was, turned away all his life as an orphan, working so hard for approval - he doesn’t do everything with the hopes of turning heads around, he thinks, like he does. He doesn’t try to fight this constant inferiority complex that eats away at his mentality.
“You do? Well then, I suppose I won’t be moving then. - Is that the consensus?”
A light laugh. He likes his partner-in-crime like this; that isn’t to say that he doesn’t like him any other time, but it was nice to see this side of him. A side that no one else but him was allowed to see. The thought of it- he can feel a warmth in his heart. For once, he was truly wanted.
How much has he laughed now? A bit much, maybe, but he finds it hard to believe they are being this open. It isn’t so often that it happens to this extreme. They are actually admitting more to the feelings they had.
“I love you, too.” , it may be jealousy, but even if Akechi were to know, he wouldn’t mind. It’s still something that motivated Akira to speak up. “thank you, for telling me.” He thinks of teasing Akira that the fans would be jealous, but that was for later. They already were. They had thought a lot about them beforehand, with Akira’s antics.
