The most recent visit on Knowledge Network's BC-Wide Road Tour was a stop on Salt Spring Island. From the float plane terminal in downtown Vancouver to the inner harbour of Ganges, we were ready for a little "island-time"!
After arriving at the lovely and eco-friendly Harbour House Hotel, we were whisked away for a private tour of the hotel's organic farm by farmer Rob. The farm supplies the Harbour House Restaurant with fruits, vegetables, herbs and more to create a daily smorgasbord of delicious food year round. If they can't grow it on the farm, they look locally, to keep everything sustainable.
The next day started with a speaking engagement at the Salt Spring Island Probus Club where over 60 locals showed up for a presentation by Knowledge Network President and CEO Rudy Buttignol. By the afternoon we had over 80 Knowledge Partners join us for a donor reception at the hotel. The reception included a sneak peak at our 2011 fall schedule.
All in all it was a short, but extremely sweet trip to the Southern Gulf's largest and most populated island. The people were great and the community was vibrant. We'd like to thank Don Hartwig of the Probus Club and the staff at the Harbour House Hotel (most notably Romy Sugden) for their help and hospitality!
Next time you are on Salt Spring Island, make sure to check out the yummy food at the Harbour House Restaurant, the Saturday Market in Ganges, and the Tree House Cafe for 111 nights of live music as well as all the local art.

Known as British Columbia's northern capital and host for Canada's 2015 Winter Games, we ventured north to Prince George, BC for our most recent stop on Knowledge Network's BC-Wide Road Tour.
While in PG we organized some great events including a free screening and art exhibit at the Playhouse, a filmmaker's roundtable, a Knowledge Network donor reception and a luncheon with the Chamber of Commerce.
We also had some memorable meet 'n' greets with Mayor Dan Rogers, UNBC's George Iwama and Robert Van Adrichem and a wonderful tour of the Two Rivers Art Gallery by Peter Thompson.
All in all it was a wonderful trip to a vibrant community and we couldn't have done it without the help of some key individuals, namely: Wendy Young of the Prince George Arts Council, Clint Fraser of Northern BC Tourism, Jennifer Brandle-McCall of the Prince George Chamber of Commerce and of course our board member Kevin Brown!
We look forward to our next adventure up north, but until then, thank you for the support and hospitality Prince George!
Next time you are in PG, make sure to check out the visually stunning Two Rivers Art Gallery, Chimo's, Ritz's Bakery and Amigo's Taco Shop!!!

On May 13, the DOXA Documentary Film Festival featured a public screening of Amnesty! When They Are All Free at the Pacific Cinematheque in Vancouver. Knowledge Network was present with Murray Battle, Director of Independent Production and Presentation introducing the film. A discussion followed the film with Gail Davidson (Lawyers Rights Watch Canada) and Jennifer Prosser Wade, one of the founding members of Amnesty International in Vancouver. Knowledge Network was proud to be a major partner of the DOXA Documentary Film Festival.
If you couldn't make the screening, be sure to watch the film online: http://www.knowledge.ca/program/when-they-are-all-free.
On April 20th, Knowledge Network ferried over to the capital city, Victoria, BC for an invitation to speak at The Canadian Club of Victoria's annual dinner. Hosted at the beautiful Uplands Golf Club in Oak Bay (just outside of downtown Vic.), The Canadian Club put on a lovely evening which included a presentation by Rudy Buttignol & music by The Village Squires. Knowledge would like to thank Canadian Club President Irene McDonald for the invite. The next day Knowledge hosted an afternoon tea for donors at the historic Gatsby Mansion.

Tk'emlups, British Columbia…………better known as Kamloops was our (Knowledge Network's President & CEO Rudy Buttignol & Aaron Alexander) most recent visit on Knowledge Network’s BC-Wide Road Tour. We arrived to a thick fog (which almost made the plane turn around) and 6 inches of snow on a cold Sunday morning and was whisked off to our hotel to get ready for a Film Salon at Thompson Rivers University. Our first event for Kamloops, and what a success, the Kamloops International Film Festival (which we sponsored) helped organize the event and we had over 110 guests experience a 3hr film salon which included a talk with Rudy, filmmaker John Bolton (12 Takes), Q&A and a screening of The 5ifty.
From there on, we were sailing through events (I think in total we had approx. 15 scheduled meetings/events in 4 days).
Some events that we organized included:
Community Luncheon for the business & arts community, Donor Event, Meetings with Mayor Peter Milobar, Kamloops North MLA Terry Lake (and now Minister of Environment) and Chief Wayne Christian of the Shuswap Nation, a Filmmakers roundtable, Radio & Television interviews and we can’t forget an exciting playoff-style junior hockey game with the Kamloops Blazers!
All in All it was a big success. Most events we attended had more people than expected, some travelling all the way from Penticton, Blue River & Lytton.
We made some great relationships with Billy Collins, Mark Wallin & Thomas Friedman of the Film Festival as well as Vicci Weller of the Thompson Nicola Film Commission.
Last but definitely not least we have to say a big thank you to our board member Wendy Heshka for helping out with this leg of the road tour.
We have already started to discuss a return trip next year to the film festival with bigger and better plans.
Next time you are in Kamloops, make sure to check out the visually impressive Kamloops Art Gallery, Felix on Fourth (great little restaurant), Zacks Coffee Shop & an artisan hangout called The Art We Are.

Organized by the Duncan Chamber, we were part of their “Chamber Week” for a special engagement with Knowledge. Lunch & room were provided by The Quamichin Inn (http://thequamichaninn.com) which is such a cute little spot if you are in that neck of the woods. We also popped by to visit Knowledge Partner Sid Sharman in Nanaimo. Included in the first photo is Cathy Mailhot (Duncan Chamber - Manager), Tom Walker (North Cowichan - Mayor) & Ranjit Dhami (Duncan Chamber – President). A big thank you to the Duncan, BC Chamber for organizing the event!
