Broadcast: Rob Kranken, 02/02/19
Rob: Good evening everyone, this is 103.5 KPLR Radio. It’s me, your host, Rob, and tonight I’m feeling kinda zany! Full moon’s not for another couple weeks though, so who knows. I’m no werewolf. Or am I? Nah, I think that’d be a pretty boring kind of monster to be. Where’s the originality? No offense to any werewolves out there, I’m sure you’re chill. Traffic tonight, clear as ever, empty as ever, if you’re driving right now: why? It’s midnight. Go to bed. Except you, Duck, I know you listen when you’re on the night shift. Keep an eye out for the Mothman or whoever’s out in those woods. Weather is nice, clear skies for once, it’s a little warmer than usual. February second, Groundhog Day, that’s today. If time is looping for you right now, please call in! I’d love to help you solve your chronological conundrum. [pause] No? No one? That’s good. I’ll turn the tunes back on for y’all, this is “Original Sin” by Brick + Mortar.
[Original Sin Brick + Mortar] [My Body Young the Giant] [Tall, Tall Tale AWOLNATION]
Rob: This is 103.5 KPLR Radio, that was “My Body” by Young the Giant and “Tall, Tall Tale” by AWOLNATION. Y’know, since I’m feeling wacky, why don’t y’all call in? Questions, comments, whatever. Oh, got one. Hey!
Caller: Hey, J— Rob? It’s Angelo, are you okay? You’re acting weird.
Rob: I’m fine, Angelo, everything is completely a hundred-percent chill.
Caller: I… okay [click]
Rob: Thanks Angelo for worrying about me, but I promise, I’m fine! Next caller?
Caller: Hey guys I’m Amanda, this is my sad mess of a friend Joe, he got rejected by a dude who didn’t like him back— [muffled, different voice: Don’t tell them my life story] and I got turned down by Joe because he’s not into… [background voice: Aw **** it just say it, it’s cool. ] —gay and I just found that out, so I’m definitely NOT gonna pursue that anymore. So we’re both kinda bummed out but anyway, can you play “Bad Day” or whatever that song is? Thanks.” [background voice: Haha oh my god really?]
Rob: Can do, my friends. Sorry ‘bout your situation, it sounds pretty sucky. Here’s “Bad Day” by Daniel Powter.
[Bad Day Daniel Powter]
Rob: Hope things get better for y’all. Do we have another caller? We do! You’re live.
Caller: Hey Rob, it’s Bonnie. I was wondering: what goes into a good radio advertisement? I wanna make one for the bafé but I don’t know what to say. Also, how many tarts do you want me to bring over? I have a bunch leftover.
Rob: Uhh, I mean, include the name of the business, obviously, the address, general menu or services, some personal flavor if you want. And, uh, the tarts? I mean, you could bring some. Maybe you should deliver some to those people whose hearts got broken. Ha! Tarts For Broken Hearts. Put that in the advertisement. Any more calls right now? No? Okay folks, I’m gonna put the music back on for a bit, but call in if you wanna say something. Anything. Except curse words, I can’t put those on here. This is “Animal” by Miike Snow on 103.5 KPLR Radio.
[Animal Miike Snow] [It Will Come Back Hozier] [Soft Fuzzy Man Lemon Demon] [Bird Song Florence + the Machine]
Rob: Oh, looks like we got a caller. Hello?
Caller: Rob how do you set a good example for teenagers?
Rob: That’s tricky. Teens are smart, they’re basically adults with bad decision-making skills. So make good decisions. I know it’s going to be very hard because no one actually knows how, but just do your best. Or better, do your worst, so the teens are so disappointed in your actions that they want to do better. Hope that’s helpful! This is 103.5 KPLR Radio, and this next song is “Bleed Magic” by I Don’t Know How But They Found Me.
[Bleed Magic I Don’t Know How But They Found Me] [Train Brick + Mortar]
Rob: Ooh, another caller. Hello?
Caller: Rob how do you carry out painful revenge without getting caught?
Rob: That was fast! Did the teens already ostracize you and steal your tech-decks? Should’ve listened to My Chemical Romance, they very clearly detail how terrifying teenagers are. But I would say just act so extremely evil that they think you’re just trying to scare them, while you secretly put your subterfuge plan into motion. [door opening noise] Huh? Oh [muffled talking] Okay everyone, I’ll be right back, this is “Teenagers” by My Chemical Romance.
[Teenagers My Chemical Romance] [The Nerve The Brobecks] [Take My Love And Run Bad Suns] [Simple Romance COIN]
Rob: Alright everyone, I’m going to have to end the broadcast early tonight. Thanks for sticking with me, or if you didn’t, that’s cool too. Talk to you all later!
