After many many many mock-ups this was the outcome of the packaging, and I have to admit, it looks pretty nice to me. As you can see I switched from a white background to black one. I added some color to give it a systematic look and included a foam cleanser, lotion, and ointment spray. I still couldn’t let go of that pattern with the logo and went ahead and added it as my interior. I would like to thank my friend Tiana for taking these lovely photos of my project, she did an amazing job. :)

After establishing which layout to go with we moved onto the computer portion of the project and created mock-ups of the design. And as you can see this is what I first came up with. I wanted to play more with the logo and create a pattern and include a little bit of background for the product.

After developing our logo we moved onto developing our packaging for our skincare product. We started with smaller thumbnails trying different variations and layouts. From there we pick our top 3 or so favorite layout out and move onto bigger thumbnails. Adding a little more detail to it and working on possible label layouts as well.

After many digital compositions and picking out a font to go with the logo, as you can see starting from top to bottom. I ended up with the final logo for OctoSeal. I was inspired by the octopus form but added a little twist to it to make it look similar to a tattoo. As for the font I chose Garamond.

After the word list and establishing our brand name, we moved onto thumbnails. This phase is meant to figure out our logo for the product, and it starts off with a matrix. A matrix is a series of thumbnails that have key concepts and are related to our brand. By doing this matrix, it will help us move forward with our first round of thumbnails. While doing these thumbnails I tired different ways to present the name of the brand as well as the pictogram of the octopus. After deciding with my professor and my classmates which ones work the best, we went onto the second round of thumbnails. These thumbnails are more detailed and slightly larger than the last. After experimenting with the same concepts just different layouts, we decided which one will move forward to the digital roughs which will be shown in the next post.

Logo Project

So for this project we are suppose to come up with our own skincare line and provide a name for the product, write a brand story, and design a logo. Now for the first phase of the project we need to do research develop a word list naming different things involving the skin or anything else that comes to mind. the outcome of this should hopefully leave you with a product name. I wanted to develop a tattoo skin care line, so I listed thing involving the skin as well as listing things involving tattoos. The outcome I got from this exercise is OctoSeal. I chose to mesh octopus and seal together because one of the characteristics of octopus is that it inks and ink is related to what tattoo artist use on the skin. As for seal I chose this word because one of the after affects of skincare is that they seal off the dirt and dust from the skin.
