PSU Students Volunteer!
PSU graphic design students had a blast volunteering their creative skills for the Opening Party. A rotating team of thirteen students drew portraits for a steady stream of party-goers. Tablets provided by Wacom were a big hit with the artists!

“I signed on to be an illustrator a week or so before DWP. We were able to take the Wacom tablets home for a few days to get familiar with using them, which was honestly one of the best perks I’ve ever received as a designer. Most of my time was spent behind the scenes at the photo booth where I got to draw with friends AND draw friends. It was chaotic and hilarious and we got to see a lot of great smiles from people! I’m glad I signed up to do it this year, and I hope to continue to be involved!” —Robin Casey

“I had a fantastic time playing around with the Wacom Spark tablets at the Opening Party. I loved getting a chance to portray so many different people and expressions in one sitting, and I was amazed at how well the Spark translated my pen markings into vector images. I’m used to spending at least 20 minutes on sketches, though, so it was pretty challenging to keep up the pace behind the photo booths. Time really flies when you’re cranking out a new portrait every 60 seconds!” —Violet Reed
“Drawing portraits at the Design Week Opening Party was one of the most awesome experiences I’ve had and totally reminded me why I want to be a designer and illustrator. Getting to work with other talented people and getting someone excited about a drawing is what I want to do, so the event was basically a dream come true for me. And having the added bonus of working with Wacom and getting to use really smart products made the whole experience that much more fun.” —Shannon Kidd
