Sinister things happen in Arcane but unfortunately most can’t be explained, at least by those who find the aftermath. 

The forests of Arcane, while beautiful house all manner of fae very much unlike the dragon breed who are more than happy to get one lost and left to the wolves. Most settlements here are small and sparsely populated as the bigger cities pull in traffic. The residents are careful, ritualistic, and give foreigners a wide berth. Those who disrupt the forest’s mood will never return from the false paths it paves for the ignorant.

Strewn among the giant coastal crystals are fortresses built into bedrock and protected heavily by automated turrets with orb-like eyes that closely follow their dragon masters below. These are places of learning and the largest structures are that of magical schools who take in students from far and wide. Foreign visitors are common to Arcane and make for perfect marks that lose their valuables faster than they can awe spiraling crystalline towers and mazes of opalescent streets. All is not always well with the schools however and fighting among the more extremist mages is common. While dueling is a regular and encouraged practice, many prefer the cover of night to launch deadly spells at rivals to solve problems before they even start. Even healers are a potent threat and the authorities never get used to the sight of corpses with bones that outgrew their flesh.

Beneath the glittering cities lie underground caverns that sparkle just as brilliantly as above. Carved districts sit comfortably in huge chambers that house additional residents and students in trunk-like stalagmites dotted with energized crystal. Paths are brightly lit but abandoned portions of the cave have ghostly lanterns flickering their last with no one to relight them. Here security turrets are absent, lending to syndicates making their homes in the cozy recesses of massive mineral deposits. Locals know well to avoid old mine shafts as they’re a favorite dumping ground for the neighboring mobs. The architecture here is gothic and intricate but beware the gargoyles carved into the walls. The eyes and ears of the schools are everywhere and their familiars hunger for those lost in the dark.
