I do believe the disaster occurred when people started treating labels as a requirement as opposed to an optional, chosen description of someone's identity. So now we have to deal with idiots posting about how they feel "restricted" identifying as a lesbian because they arent "allowed" to like men. I pretty much agree that the “everybody should do whatever they want forever” mantra is a net negative for us as a platform. But what does that have to do with what identities these ppl use. I guess I just don’t see the through line between “I define my attraction in x y and z way” -> “more accepting of Zionist tendencies”. I’m not mspec, I don’t know what that is tbqh. I’m also not a lesbian (I know what that is). I’m just trying to see your argument, bc I would agree with the idea that “do whatever you want forever” is a flawed mission statement, and I don’t see a lot of ppl talk about the harm that mindset can bring if you’re not careful. Just incherested in hearing your thoughts.

It's about the ideology of "radical inclusivism". An ideology that fundamentally discourages the individual from examining biases and consequences of actions.

"you can do whatever you want forever" is a statement that is deeply self centered, and I don't say that negatively. It centers self-wants/id as the most morally pure motivation. If you want to do it, it's okay right?

So how does DWYWF link to radical inclusivity and identity politics? It has to do with the current push in queer/online spaces that posits the acceptance of any and all "good faith" identities as the most important protected space. Bi lesbians. Cis man lesbians. Straight gays. Cis trans women. Transracial id. Transabled id. Paraphilliacs. MAPs.

How do we choose what is a part of our community? Where is our limit? Is it wrong to have limits? Radical inclusivity says no. Anything goes as long as it's "in good faith". Do whatever you want forever.

It comes back to the paradox of tolerance, as it always does. Where do we draw the line. If we tolerate all things, do we make the space safer for everyone, or just for those who harm others? How do we determine what harms others?

And herein is the meat of the issue. Radical inclusivity is not interested in doing the hard work to answer any of those questions. Radical inclusivity opposes hashing out the real, complicated, dirty process of determinating what our world means and how we affect each other. Radical inclusivity says that you can't possibly hurt others if you "don't mean to". Radical inclusivity instead encourages relying on a quippy phrase that sounds right but has no moral foundation or complexity. Do whatever you want forever.

It is fundamentally an ideology built on white experiences and shelterism. White queers enter the community never before having to do hard work understanding how their actions and identities affect the world. Why would they? The world coddles them. So they assume their ethos of "good intentions=Morally Pure" translates.

There is no easy way to determine ethical mores. There is no perfect quippy sentence you can use to get out of doing the hard mental work of figuring out how to treat each other. You cannot "do whatever you want forever" into having a cogent or stable moral code.

sometimes i wonder if the white queer's desire to try to redefine the definition of labels that have existed for decades despite pushback from the attached community and the "you can do whatever you want forever" attitude that comes with it derives from the same place that leads them to dismiss cultural appropriation. that being that they lack culture themselves and fundamentally don't understand having a community that needs to be defended

I watched it yesterday (Sunday) and I enjoyed it more than usual bc I had my friends with me so I could turn over and whisper-yell stuff LOL

Overall. Mmm. I have Mixed Feelings. In the moment I enjoyed it. Afterwards I thought on it more and was like “hm! They could’ve handled some of that better!” I know the ending especially has the fandom divided. Tbh I think people are getting it mixed up that like. Just bc you didn’t like the ending doesn’t mean it’s bad.

My main gripe is the unanswered questions. Like? Is abstraction reversible considering what happened between Pomni and [REDACTED]? How’d Those Two get in the circus? Etc etc

I have to write a whole post about [REDACTED] bc some of the backlash is just. A lack of media literacy.

i fear tadc will go down in the history books as the "tell don't show" story that somehow doesn't even tell you anything despite never showing it

oh now that the TADC finale is officially out. What were your thoughts on the ending.

My complaints are mostly what I've seen echoed online. I felt that the emphasis placed on jax was rather out of place and took away from the story. I watched the movie in theaters with several friends and there wasn't enough space so i alternated between sitting on someone's lap and doing a wall sit for the duration of the movie, and somehow that wasn't the most unpleasant part of the experience. As most people have pointed out, focus on jax isn't necessarily bad. It's the fact that this was supposedly intended to be a show focused on all of the circus members that makes it seen extremely out of place. Even friends of mine who were only casual watchers agreed that it felt like Jax and friends: the movie. Hell, even my friends who watched only the movie thought the plot seemed all over the place, despite not even knowing what the premise was.

I've seen jax compared to bojack horseman as a character, but the stark difference between the two is that bojack is allowed to be hated.

In the end as a casual watcher it just felt to me very unpleasantly as a fantasy i wouldve had when i was suicidal of being someone in crisis rejecting help over and over again and lashing out and never facing retribution and still continuously being given grace and turning it away and being redeemed in death and still remembered fondly

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate jax. I think as a character the concept of her is compelling, but the execution fell flat in some ways and created this nightmare fandom in which if you criticize the slightest thing suddenly you are given the death penalty
