Lately we have hid our best beneath layers of down, wool and thinsulate.
Perhaps the time has finally come to bud... followed by bloom.
Are we all intended to shine? It is an intense struggle to reflect light.
The way you leave is more important than the way you came in.
At the entrance, you are a stranger. At the door goodbye, you are an enemy, a friend, or forgotten. As we welcome the New Year, let us not focus too heavily on what is ahead until we contend with what wonders and blunders we have left behind.
My colors run wet white and blue.
When wearing a dress for the first time you are discovering ...guessing at what the success might be and fearing the failure.
This lovely floral smock felt like the perfect marriage of summer and fall when I paired it one September morning with black tights and sandals.
By 8:45am it felt too short.
By 9:14am I realized I had torn a hole in the pocket seam.
A hole is an absence, yet a whole is the entirely.
I’m not sure which one this is and I’m pretty sure I’ve never been able to tell the difference.
You are often running late. You stay up too late and eat too many snacks after dinner. And yet, when you get there and throw your jacket on the coat rack, people can’t help but recognize the arrival.
Today I woke my love from one of his dreams and asked him to help in zipping me up. He smiled at me without the assistance of his minus-6 lenses and said “well, don’t you look like a sexy basket” and honestly, I really did feel as if that was exactly what I was.
It's been a long time since we talked. I hope you didn't think I was upset with you. You've been busy. I've been better. You've been in the sun. I've been in the heat. It doesn't matter how we got here, it is where we are now.
Today I wore my green leaves. Four new plants entered my life and my apartment. It is my intention and hopefully theirs to make it through this new season together and in abundance.
For someone like me who runs a few degrees hot, a sweater-dress is reserved for only the chilliest days of winter. This Valentin-ed red number has been know to melt the icicles from the roof and start a fire in the basement.
Once while draped in this knit, I road the escalator out of the dungeon that is called the 34th Street subway station up to the avenues of employment. A man from the platform level repeated as I rode upwards "I can see your ass in that dress, I CAN SEE YOUR ASS IN THAT DRESS." I flushed with shame and then, a moment later thought, well yes, of course you can.
This beautious has been hiding in my to repair pile for years. I recently darned her with the help of the sewing machine I received for X-mas and clearly, there is nothing stopping us now.
Before the seams gave way the first time, I wore my orange lady out to an afternoon bridal shower. A dear friend, upon my late arrival declared... you look like someone farted you from the past... I liked that, and the more I think about it, the truer it seems.
We all have pink parts.
I am pleased to report that SHBT Episode 2, Sally Porter and the Prisoner of Lezbarth’s, is currently being uploaded to Youtube. It should be done in a few hours, at which time I’ll post the link here. In the meantime, a brief synopsis of the episode: it has been prophesied that a female...
This the sort of dress that can take a beating and still get compliments! Frayed at the collar, and worn at the waist... I put her on and still admiration abounds for her efforts!
I had a very important time with this old gal in Japan 2008. It involved a hangover, a pile of spaghetti, a migraine, some unfortunate tourists and a passing moment of spiritual understanding. And in so, I think you would agree, this dress truly can handle a face-bound curve ball.
Sometimes it is necessary to take a step back or away to really be able to see a dress. Case in point, this darling polyester frock! I completely missed the cherry blossoms here and once I saw them, I really couldn't un-see them.
Our eyes really do have a funny way of talking to our brains wouldn't you agree?!
2 maybe... it depends. Why do you ask?
Sorry for the delay! Actually this is just the title for my Q&A, but since you want the literal, modern size 2 is likely a vintage size 8. That's for an older garment, as you creep closer to the 80s that vintage size would decrease. Always best to measure!
Days often begin with an enlivened search for a pair of stocking without a run or a hole in colder months such as these. These are days to preserve body heat, and in so, they are also days of controlled topped discomfort. Such is the struggle for winter beauty.
Sometimes a tulip can bloom out of season if the temperature rises quickly and the ground gets a little wet. This dress is certainly the way to get things to heat up! It combines all that I love most in a dress: sheer synthetic prints with a tie detail collar.
When it is cold, it is advisable to let yourself bloom despite the wind and the snow and sometimes the rain.
