Reblog if you agree
what is it about capybaras that attracts groups of small animals to them? Its not just mammals either its like birds and turtles and frogs too
look at this shit
They radiate peace
capybaras are friend shaped
I love this post
This is actually a cool thing I know about!
In the wild capybaras live in large groups so naturally a female capybara will take care of not only her own offspring, but all of the other offspring in the group. So capybaras are super great mothers who will adopt pretty much anything and take care of it.
Lots of places that rescue different animals will give a group of baby animals to a capybara to raise if they have one.
Like puppies
Ducks
Deer
Emus
They are just super calm animals so they’re naturally great at mothering or just existing in a group!

You need to be alone

What Does Executive Dysfunction Look Like?
Here, while focused and not overstimulated, I asked The Kid to draw an apple and spell it:
He is able to write the word apple all by himself, from memory. He knows how to spell apple, and he knows that he knows. He needs a simple visual aid to draw an apple himself, his apple resembles an apple (as drawn by a 6 yo, anyway).
Here, while slightly overstimulated, I ask The Kid to draw a cat and write the word cat:
Though he definitely knows how to spell cat, he needs a visual aid here to do so. He also needs a simple visual aid to draw a cat, but even with an aid, he draws the parts in the wrong order. You can tell he's struggling to perform the task.
Here, absolutely overstimulated, I ask The Kid to draw a whale and write the word whale:
After 3 minutes of picking up the pencil and then putting it down again, with lots of echolalia, he makes an attempt. He needs a visual aid for both tasks. While he writes each letter in the correct order, their sequence is mostly random. He cannot draw at all in this state.
This is Executive Dysfunction. A symptom common in autism, and adhd.
A person with Executive Dysfunction is not making a decision not to do something (chores, homework, cooking, etc.) -- they genuinely cannot do the thing. At least not under certain circumstances, such as overstimulation or stress. They might require help and step by step guidance to get through it, or to abandon the task entirely until circumstances are more ideal.
This is a normal experience and not something to be punished for (by yourself or others). In fact punishment or the fear of punishment actually makes ED worse and more frequent. The only things that actually help the severity and frequency of Executive Dysfunction is patience and understanding.
This is also why functioning labels are outdated and inaccurate. You can go from 1 to 3 in the same day. Heck, the same hour if you're having A Time of It. For example, I go straight from 1 to 3, skipping 2 entirely when I look at road maps.
(Obligatory disclaimer: The Kid was not compelled to perform these tasks against his desire. I compiled these images over the course of summer break, when he requested the activity but wasn't always in a state to complete the activity. Then realized what a keen visual representation of ED this was, and that it could be helpful.)
the oblivion monster factory is unappreciated in its time.....imo it has the highest rewatch value out of the entire series. absolutely NOTHING can beat gems like "i'm going to make you a little more evasive, Grandpa Piss" or "chiquita dave the man for a banana with a face" or "that was a frame-perfect rat smash!" or my personal favorite: "pretty good jail. nerds."
I'm obsessed with the voices they do for him when they say, "You're the real humans, I'm just Chiquita Dave"!!!
reminder: I have another illustration project on patreon.
I sometimes wonder how much of autistic people “taking things literally” is actually us sort of... defaulting because while we technically understand the meaning, we’re not sure how we’re supposed to respond and responding literally is generally mostly harmless.
I know that doesn’t make much sense as worded so I have an example to present:
I used to always answer “what’s up” with “the ceiling/sky”. I knew what the question “really meant” but didn’t know how I was supposed to answer - that is, I knew it was equivalent to “Hello, how are you doing?” but didn’t know what the accepted script response to it was. Didn’t know what the slangier equivalent of “Very well, thank you, and you?” was supposed to be.
Am I supposed to actually tell them what I’m doing/have been doing? In most cases if you actually give people information when they ask for it through script they get upset. But they think you’re being standoffish and unsociable if you don’t give a verbal response at all. Solution: shrug/grin/smirk and say “the ceiling/sky”. The other person will chuckle at best and only groan or roll their eyes at worst - and what could have been a disastrously uncomfortable situation turns into the other person thinking you’re friendly/funny (or at least trying to be).
(For the record, I eventually figured out in my mid twenties that the correct answer is “Not much, you?”)
Pulling back out to generalization:
When metaphor or interpretable language is used in conversation, it’s very commonly linked with a complicated social/emotional situation. If you don’t know how to correctly respond to that situation, responding literally is often a path of least resistance - easy to come up with something to say, and less likely to result in anger/upset.
I think, at least some portion of the time, we know they don’t mean what they actually said. We often in fact know what they do mean. We just don’t know how they want us to respond.
