Skip Google for Research
As Google has worked to overtake the internet, its search algorithm has not just gotten worse. It has been designed to prioritize advertisers and popular pages often times excluding pages and content that better matches your search terms
As a writer in need of information for my stories, I find this unacceptable. As a proponent of availability of information so the populace can actually educate itself, it is unforgivable.
Below is a concise list of useful research sites compiled by Edward Clark over on Facebook. I was familiar with some, but not all of these.
⁂
Google is so powerful that it “hides” other search systems from us. We just don’t know the existence of most of them. Meanwhile, there are still a huge number of excellent searchers in the world who specialize in books, science, other smart information. Keep a list of sites you never heard of.
www.refseek.com - Academic Resource Search. More than a billion sources: encyclopedia, monographies, magazines.
www.worldcat.org - a search for the contents of 20 thousand worldwide libraries. Find out where lies the nearest rare book you need.
https://link.springer.com - access to more than 10 million scientific documents: books, articles, research protocols.
www.bioline.org.br is a library of scientific bioscience journals published in developing countries.
http://repec.org - volunteers from 102 countries have collected almost 4 million publications on economics and related science.
www.science.gov is an American state search engine on 2200+ scientific sites. More than 200 million articles are indexed.
www.pdfdrive.com is the largest website for free download of books in PDF format. Claiming over 225 million names.
www.base-search.net is one of the most powerful researches on academic studies texts. More than 100 million scientific documents, 70% of them are free
somebody asked this on instagram so here goes:
How to romanticize studying
Disclaimer: these are only simple tricks/ways to make learning a pleasant experience. If you're suffering from burnout or any other mental health issues, you need to address them properly. These only go so far.
Music! My favorite and most helpful. I often change it depending on the kind of studying I'm doing. If it's an intense reading, it's usually white noise. If it's typing out notes/low attention requiring work, then i go for some upbeat music with lyrics.
Beverages. While water is a must, you should always have it on your desk while studying, something fancy like coffee/matcha/tea can accompany it too.
Stationery. While I feel going for extravagant stationery can be really distracting and time-consuming, it doesn't hurt to pick out notebooks or pens that suit your needs. With time you do learn what's best for you.
To-do lists. Now this might not be everyone's cup of tea, but i personally find it very therapeutic to cross off stuff from a list. Writing down your tasks for the day also helps to keep you calm and clear about your intent.
Space. Your study space is important. It should be clean. That's all that matters really. Otherwise you can arrange it however you want, but having a clean space works wonderfully well.
Have fun with it! If you're studying something you enjoy, this is pretty easy. If not, you can always try making study friends/partners, go on study dates, try a reward system etc. Most importantly, understand that it's okay not knowing everything. No one is good at everything and that's just how it is. Trying is important.

submitting my first college application today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my class group decided to joke around about the boards today (person A: how was the English exam? Person B: kinda lengthy if you ask me) and one of my classmates texted me to ask if it was a joke and that the exam actually didn’t happen

It RAINED. It was LOUD and the lightning illuminated the sky so frequently, the whole of outside looked like it was under a flickering lightbulb. I. LOVED. IT. We got tons of rolling thunder too. These are the days I LIVE for

CAN I JUST SAY I REBLOGGED THIS WITH ALMOST ALL MY CLASSES IN THE DUMPS
AND NOW I’M GETTING STRAIGHT B’s????
THIS WORKS YOU CAN DO IT
okay DESI CBSE KIDS ASSEMBLE especially those giving boards exams, PLEASE tell me if I'm the only one who literally has no fucking motivation left to study anything or are we all on the same boat? I've been a pretty studious person my entire life but all the uncertainty around the exams and the fucked up number of cases in our country is giving me so much anxiety. while the thought of going to give the exams is scary, unjust internal marking and assessment is also kinda scary and the thought of postponement and dragging this whole thing on is the scariest. in conclusion I do not know what I want, all I know is I want this to be over .
All I want is my 12th to be over😭😭
FELT! been doing 12th since feb 2020. At this rate we’ll never graduate
spring quarter has sprung! just some pictures of what my workspace tends to look like in the first couple days of classes (by far my most organized and motivated time but i still did that whole monthly spread instead of paying attention in one of my lectures :P)
Hybrid Note Taking Style
A note taking method that blends the best of paper and digital note taking that I’ve been exploring lately. So far it’s working really well for me :) Hope it helps!
