ART 143 Final Blog Post...
ROBOT BOOK: I had a great time working with others in the Robot Book. I was unable to volunteer readily in the beginning because I moved and my computer was packed! But once I was able to get back into the swing of things, I feel like I made up for all of the time I missed. I helped A LOT in the end, wrapping up the book, putting all of the pages in order with the teacher after they were edited. I went through each and every page and fixed all of the errors that showed in pre-flight. I also fixed the plug cord on the front matter that was out of the margins and made the curves smoother, as well as resize the surge protector. I worked during office hours with our professor Joyce two times in the final week to make final corrections step-by-step with her direction. We spend several hours doing this. I am really glad I volunteered to do so, I learned so much and repeating each step really helped me remember how to do things.
MY FINAL PROJECT reflection: I loved being able to create a magazine catalog for my photographic pet images. I learned so much and included all of my knowledge that I learned in class about In Design templates, headers, page numbers, repeating headers, and more- in the magazine, even adding in a table that we learned when we made the calendars. I did extra pages that were not necessary because I plan to complete the catalog and send it out to my licensors. THe only thing I need to figure out is how to create the contact sheet of pet images with the file number underneath in In Design instead of Photoshop. I made the contact sheet in PSD and placed it in. But Prof Joyce told me there is a way to do it in In Design so I plan to figure that out.
I hope to create childrens books with my images, but thought the easiest way to see the images I can choose from is to actually have a catalog of them. I have hundreds!! - you have no idea! The image catalog will not only help me in my future licensing business, but it will also help me remember and see the adorable pet images that are in my external hard drives that I have forgotten about so I can use them as they pertain to te themes of my upcoming childrens books :) So many projects, not enough time.
Thank you Professor Joyce - I learned a great deal from you and enjoyed this class immensely, Kelly
Finally, I have created an ART resume that reflects what I have been doing lately! YAY!!
For ART 143 FINAL Project, I chose to create a Fall/Winter Image Catalog of my pet photos for art licensing. I used a Magazine layout from BLURB. The magazine layout requires you to create a separate layout for the cover front, back, and Cover inside and back. I did the front cover and the inside cover. Next is the page 1 table of contents, then the magazine spreads 2-3 and 4-5 with many more to come. I inserted a table on the inside cover page for the information. I also used photoshop to create the contact sheets with the images and image names and placed them in. Prof joyce told me there is a way to create a table with images that includes their file names- I will look into that next. I learned a great deal from this class!! LOVE it.
Final- really I promise this is the last one! FINAL ROBOT squeak is finished and ready for the book to be published. I am pretty sure I am finally happy with my little robots design and colors.

Fall/Winter Image Catalog - FINAL PROJECT ART 143
As I was gathering images for my children’s book concept: the 12 days of kitten mischief christmas, my Final Project concept was conceived- a magazine catalog of my images for myself and my licensees. Above you can see the layout I plan to use whcih includes page numbers, bottom running headers for phone ans web address, a table of contents and color bars to differentiate each section of images: Fall Halloween Thanksgiving and Christmas/Winter .
Also research: of magazine catalog i based my design around

Lots of chat on Pronto Friday night. There was no version 3 folder on google so I created one it says RobotBookV3. I turned in my new V3 package to it.
Preflighting: to clarify Prof's directions. Need to go to preflight hamburger and choose define profiles. That is where you will find the + sign to add the BLURB profile. if you need help lmk
Preflighting there is an error in the MASTER.
Also there is no Submit Assignment button to be able to submit the Preflight Screenshot due May 30th. As of sat morning, Submit button has been created.
Another new template. FINAL Version 3!!
Final Project Book screenshot shows master page template with page numbers and running header, also grids and guidelines ready to go
NEXT - FONT styles PARA Styles: To start I want to choose a cute children’s font for the header, and an easy to read that goes with it for the book pages. Pictured above are some of my favorite fonts. Many of these I downloaded from Adobe and are free to use with adobe. I put a few sets together in the second screenshot. I like Filson Pro it is simple, easy to read. Chelsea and Chauncy are also my favorites for the decorative font
IMAGE: Screenshot of the blur website where you can download the book creator and you can also see my desktop with the book creator open, ready to start creating my para styles etc. on the master pages at the top.
I chose to start with the Trade book TEMPLATE on Blurb book publishing website. Ultimately, I want to create a photo book, however want to make trade book first because it is much less expensive, and I am still experimenting with book formats and want to have a physical sample for the rough. I chose 8x10 format. There were only 3 portrait style choices in trade book category, and this one is the widest of the three.
Now I will begin setting up the pages using a master....
Most books are 32 pages or in multiples of 8 The industry standard size for printed books are 5.25″ x 8, 5.5″ x 8.5, 6″ x 9″, 7″ x 10″, 8″ x 10″, 8.25″ x 6″ and 8.25″ x 8.25″.
Trying to decide on the book size for my Final Project...
New Aquabot SQUEAK in his fish tank cleaning and aerating it!
New Calendar Design using the image over the whole page and moving items around. changed para styles, made a new master etc.
Reflection: Calendar Project was so much fun! I learned alot about how to use IDD tables and styles doing this project. I like the design variations much better than a common template that we used on the first calendar. I am so happy that Prof added this mini-project to the assignment modules. I want to create a few more variations as soon as I have more time.
