A rank stench filled the unconscious boy’s nostrils, ripping him from that unpleasant session of dreams as he awakened, shivering near a storm drain. The rain was falling as though it were late for an appointment with the damned ground, a gray and rather gloomy overcast bearing down on him. He felt drenched to the bone as he struggled to stand up, now realizing that filthy odor was not him, but the sewer nearby. Stumbling away, he could hear traffic and city-like commotion nearby, but for some reason, his gut told him to avoid that.
That’s when it hit him:
He didn’t even know who he was.
Off in the distance, he saw someone approaching, causing him to about-face and walk in the opposing direction. The last thing he needed was to be interrogated.

Leading him to the back of her apartment, she opened the door leading to the back stairwell. “Yeah. I spend a lot of time up there, thinking and stuff. “So I started keeping chairs and pillows and blankets and crap up there.”
"Sounds like you have a mob of friends to invite, shame that all of mine are...out of state."
Or out of dimension, give or take, if his hypothesis was correct.
Conner glanced up at the stairwell, following Kate as the night air practically slapped him in the face. It wasn't the same as home, but it was a new type of air to breathe. Something...different.
"Really now? Well, what if it rained? Wouldn't all of you stuff get rather soiled up on the roof?" He said, smirking to himself as he ascended the stairs with her.
"Have you fallen asleep on me?"
"I have no idea what you’re talking about, Conner, honestly."
Kate smiled, nodding. “I have friends like that. Who didn’t quite fit in, who couldn’t run with a crowd.” She looked back over her life, how she was either in the crowd, or she wasn’t. Though she couldn’t exactly see Conner fighting, it made sense. He was built, almost like Teddy with black hair.
Kate snorted, curling in on herself tighter. “I’m not who you think I am, Conner. Tragic things happen to nice girls.”
"So do I, actually. We kind of hang out a bit too often, so I decided to go on a trip for myself..." He exclaimed rather forlornly, as though he missed his friends dearly.
He looked over at Kate and gave a sad smile of acknowledgment, knowing the truth of what she meant. He had seen too many 'nice' people have tragedies of their own to endure.
"That's a universal shame, but you don't seem like the type to want my pity. You're strong--I can sense that much."
