Though Lena was mad - furious, even, she couldn’t help the way her body melted the instant that Kara ran into her arms for comfort. She knew that whatever had happened today had probably really frightened her. After all, it wasn’t Kara’s fault. She didn’t know any better. This was entirely because of Alex.. And perhaps a little on Lena for not having started teaching Kara about stealing, or the concept of money.

“Hey… Hey…” Lena cooed softly, cupping the back of Kara’s head while she sobbed. She was confused, for just a moment, but one quizzical look towards the security guard and him pointing towards the mess of fabric and stuffing across the table was all she needed to know what happened.

“Oh darling,” Lena sighed, watching as Kara pulled away enough to show her the tiger leg clutched in her hand. “No one is mad at you because of your tiger. We can fix him as soon as we get home, I promise,” Lena insisted, pulling Kara back to cradle against her chest.

“You can’t just put things in your backpack, Kara.. Where was Alex?”

Sniffling as Lena told her that no one was mad at her and that they could fix her tiger she absently wiped at her eyes, peeking up at Lena from her spot hidden against her shoulder. “Y-You promise?” she whispered, still clinging to Lena as if the moment she let go Lena would disappear again.

Furrowing her brows Kara shifted to hide against Lena still, resting her cheek against Lena’s shoulder so she could turn her face towards Lena’s neck so she’d still be able to talk to her. “But...But...When you take me places, you always get me to pick stuff and then we leave,” she pointed out looking confused for a moment. “A-Alex was at the b-book store and I was trying to get back! Really I was trying my hardest! But then the scary guys stopped me and brought me here,” she explained. “B-But! I had asked Alex if I could go first, and she said it was okay but only to the candy store and to see my tiger’s friends, I did ask first! I promise!” 

Having made his way over to the table against the back of the room Clint gave the two their moment before he glanced at the table. “I must admit, Kara’s ability to organize is quite impressive considering all she managed to fit in that backpack,” he commented, gesturing to the boxes of lego and the collection of candy that were set aside from the other items they had taken out of Kara’s bag.

“Now, I can understand that this is all clearly a misunderstanding and Kara was not aware of what she was doing. However, caught or not she did still steal the items and unfortunately will have to be banned from the premises. As she did have hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise and the owners of the stores are going to expect some form of punishment. We won’t charge any fines though as all of the merchandise is still in sellable condition.”

As Clint spoke to Lena Kara just continued to hide against her, trying to take breaths and calm down but it was truly growing rather difficult to, even with having Lena here. She really just wanted to be out of this tiny room, out of the mall, she just wanted to go home.

The day had been longer and more grueling than Lena could have expected. Between the disaster paperwork she needed to re-file and numerous video conferences, she felt as though she couldn’t catch a break.

To make matters all the worse, Lena hadn’t been able to stop thinking about the night before. Kissing Kara had been at the forefront of her mind, no matter how hard she tried to push it away. She shouldn’t have done it. Hell, she shouldn’t have even thought about doing it. But perhaps that was the problem. She hadn’t been thinking, and she let her confused and over emotional state get the better of her. She had been upset over Jack and Kara had been so kind, sweet and thoughtful. 

Then there was the nagging memory of the fact that Kara had reciprocated the kiss. Not once, but twice. Of course, Lena knew that she couldn’t really count it, because Kara probably didn’t understand what any of it really meant. Though they probably kissed one another on her home planet (or at least Lena assumed so), there was really no way to assume if Kara knew what it meant for humans. Much less, that it was something that she should not be doing with Lena.

Sighing deeply to herself, Lena stapled together the papers she had just been half-heartedly scanning, adding them to the ever growing pile on her desk.

When her phone started to vibrate against the desk, Lena furrowed her brow when the unrecognizable number flashed across the screen. She ad half the mind to ignore it, but the National City area code was an indication that it may have been something important.

“Hello?” She questioned, as she clicked the accept button.

“Hello is this Lena?”

“.. Yes it is. With whom am I speaking?” Lena questioned, her curiosity peaked. after all, she wasn’t expecting any kind of phone call today. Not on her personal cell phone. 

“This is Clint from the National City mall security, we have Kara here-…”

Lena let out a low, long sigh. Of course. Of course she had been too busy getting ready in a fluster that morning that she hadn’t confirmed exactly what Alex had planned for her day with Kara. Of course that meant that somehow, she had gotten into trouble. This was just the cherry on top of a fabulous twenty four hour period.

“Yes, I will be there very shortly. Thank you, Clint,” 

Hanging up the phone, Lena took a moment to let out a long, steady breath. She closed her eyes, grounding herself for a second before gathering her things together to put in her purse.

“I’m going to have to leave early, Jess,” Lena called out as she walked out of her office to where Jess was inputting the data of the day into the computer system.

“Is everything.. Okay?” Jess asked carefully, the blank expression on Lena’s face was entirely unreadable - which was never something good.

“I have to go get Kara out of some trouble.. And perhaps murder a scientist,”

Jess blinked in response, not really sure what to say.. And absolutely biting her tongue about providing an alibi if her boss was serious about the murder part.

“Alright. I’ll make sure to forward to phones,”

Walking through the mall, her heels clicking dangerously against the floor, Lena had somehow managed to stew even farther into her annoyance during the drive over. How could Alex had been so reckless? For someone so intelligent, it was a wonder how she had managed to be so stupid. 

“Hello. Lena Luthor,” Lena greeted the woman sat at the customer service desk, watching as her eyes flashed with recognition. That only made Lena wonder even further about exactly what had happened to make this situation more memorable than their average teenage shop lifter.

“Oh… Yes, Just one moment,” The woman muttered, picking up the phone to make a call to security. Lena controlled her breathing, tapping her nails against the counter in sheer irritation.

“Miss Luthor?” A kindly looking security guard called out to Lena, gesturing for her to follow him back.

“Thank you. I appreciate the phone call and I can only apologize for Kara. I thought I had left her with a competent carer, but I was vastly mistaken,”

Lena stepped through into the security area and caught sight of Alex nervously sat down, looking far too much like she was a student waiting in line for a meeting with the principal.

Alex looked wildly around when the door opened, eyes widening when Lena stepped in with purpose. She stood up too fast, almost knocking over the plastic chair.

“Lena… I-”

Lena cut her off with her finger, turning her icy stare to bore into Alex.

“I’ll deal with you later,”

Alex’s mouth shut tight, lips sucked between her teeth to cease any temptation she had to try to explain.

“Just through here, Miss Luthor,” The guard guided, opening the locked door to the interrogation room. Lena didn’t waste a single second before she marched in, trying to control the boiling anger she was feeling about the situation.

“Kara?”

While they waited for Lena Clint had tried to get Kara talking to help calm her down, though when he brought up the topic of animals and if she liked them, that was when Kara got upset all over again about the poor stuffed animal still in shambles on the table between them. Realizing it was a little futile and he should probably just stop talking that was when Clint just got Kara more water and kept her company as they waited, though it truly didn’t seem like Kara was too concerned with him at this point.

Slowly sipping from the refilled cup of water Kara had a few stray hiccups and shaky sighs leaving her lips, cheeks tearstained, heart racing still, tiger’s leg clutched to her chest with her free hand, she truly felt exhausted and it was for the briefest moment she wondered if this is what being human felt like, because it was horrible!

Only looking up as she watched the man leave Kara looked back at the table, shaking her head. “Bad...Bad, she’s gonna be so mad at you...” she mumbled to herself.

Quickly looking up upon hearing Lena’s voice Kara all but scrambled off the metal chair, rushing over to Lena and hugging her tightly. Tears welling in her eyes instantly once more as she hid her face against the shoulder of Lena’s jacket. 

“I...I’m s-sorry I...I couldn’t be gentle...I couldn’t do human tight and I...I...” with a sob leaving her lips Kara only pulled away enough to show Lena the torn off tiger leg. “P-Please don’t send me b-back to Hank...I...I’m sorry I...”

Hiding against Lena once more Kara clung to her jacket, sobbing softly against her shoulder.

I Fought The Law →

If days with Alex weren’t already exciting enough Kara had been bouncing non stop since Alex had arrived that morning. It truly was a blessing considering the fact she’d wanted to ask Lena about their kisses and if it was something they could do again or if it was only going to be a bed time thing but before she could ask Lena anything, Lena was getting ready and before she knew it Kara was giving her her goodbye hug for the day and she was alone with Alex. She didn’t have long to pout about it though as soon Alex was surprising her with a secret trip to the mall and any thoughts she was thinking before were instantly out the window as Kara bounded down the hall to get dressed. Once they had finally arrived Kara was eager to run around and let off some steam, but she stayed by Alex’s side, talking to her, asking her questions, playing with her tiger.

It was only after they had been in a book store to see some sort of Scientific Author did Kara start to grow antsy. 

Sure, it was nice to spend time with Alex doing something the other girl liked to do. But after an hour of listening to science talk Kara couldn’t help it when she started rocking in her spot. Kara wasn’t interested in science, she was interested in candy.

“Alex when can we go?” she whispered, her legs bouncing eagerly as she tried hard to stay in her spot.

“Once this book reading is over,”

Glancing between Alex and the older gentleman sitting in a chair at the front of the group Kara glanced at the book in his hands. Noticing that they had hardly even gotten halfway through!

“But...That’s gonna be forever!”

Blushing a little as the people around them were quick to shush her Kara pouted as she slumped down in her chair. 

Noticing Kara playing with her Tiger again, Alex figured they were in the clear. Until she noticed Kara ruffling through her backpack next to her, dropping cereal and other things she didn’t even want to ask about. Sighing a little she leaned over, gently nudging the alien. “Kara, what are you looking for?”

“My juice boxes! I thought I put them in here last night, I-”

“Shh!”

“S-Sorry....I thought I put them in here before Lena and I went to bed....But....No wait! I didn’t because then I got distracted playing with her hair,”

Alex couldn’t help the small fond smile that settled over her face as Kara explained how her night played out, though the smile quickly disappeared as she heard the people behind them shushing Kara, yet again.

“She is being quiet, just relax.” she commented, giving them a small glare before looking back at Kara. She knew the girl wasn’t going to sit still, Kara didn’t sit still ever. Plus as she noticed the cereal bits falling out of her backpack Alex knew this was going to get more messy than anything.

“Okay...You don’t have to sit here, you can go look in the candy store and I’ll meet you there okay?”

“Can I go to the store with the animals?”

“Uh...Not the real ones.”

“What about...My tiger’s animal friends?”

“Yeah, I guess. But only there and the candy store okay?”

“Okay!” Beaming a little Kara quickly zipped her backpack up, sliding her arms back into the straps she leaned over to kiss Alex’s cheek before happily hopping up, not being very discreet as she made her way through the row of people and out of the book store.

“Wait for me there Kara,”

“I will!”

Once she was out on her own Kara was feeling slightly overwhelmed, but she just continued to tell herself that she was fine, she knew where she was going and Alex was only right there if she needed her. Everything was fine. 

Hanging on to her Tiger’s paw she gave the stuffed animal a small nod before venturing off towards the store that had all of her Tiger’s friends in it. After all, she was most excited about the candy store, so she figured she’d save it for last! That way hopefully Alex would be done her book thing at the same time, then they’d be together again!

It didn’t take long for Kara to get distracted in the toy store, especially when her gaze fell on their newly added Lego section. That definitely wasn’t here the last time Lena brought her here so naturally she had to check it out! Inspecting every box took well over thirty minutes and once Kara had decided which ones she wanted she had them tucked under her arms as she continued to venture around, finding the store was a lot busier than it had been previously, which worked out for her because like always no one tried to talk to her. 

It was only when she went to lift her Tiger up to show them their friends did she end up dropping half the Lego boxes, which left her pouting and confused for a second until she realized she had a way to carry them! She had her backpack! And since she didn’t pack those juice boxes it wasn’t as full as usual. Kneeling down she placed the Lego boxes in her backpack before zipping it back up and sliding it back on to her shoulders before leaning up on her tip toes to return to showing her Tiger the other animals. 

“Maybe when we get home we can build a Lego room for you and then maybe we can get more friends! But I kind of like having you as my best friend,” she explained to the stuffed tiger as she cradled it back into her arms before eventually making her way out of the store and skipping towards the candy store.

Once there, Kara was instantly beaming. Feeling bright and happy like she always did whenever she was there. Stepping inside she quickly put her Tiger in her backpack, knowing she’d need her hands free. “I’ll grab you again after, I promise! And promises are forever,” she told her small friend before zipping her backpack up and grabbing one of the baskets. 

Curiously looking around she figured she should pick some stuff for Lena this time too! Which had Kara thinking about Lena and missing her and wondering how her day was going. Maybe she’d ask if she could go to L Corp tomorrow. 

Lena time was the best time after all!

It didn’t take long before Kara had filled the basket, which was when she paused to think that well, she already had a basket from here at home....No, she had two! One was holding her Lego and the other had crayons in it. So surely, she didn’t need to bring another one home, when she didn’t have anything to go in it! Shrugging off her backpack once more she dumped the contents of the basket into her backpack, taking a moment to organize everything before ultimately just shoving it all in. Quickly standing up she glanced around and noticed that Alex still wasn’t there, so she must have been early! Well, it couldn’t hurt to make her way back to the book store, then maybe Alex would be pleased she had gotten everything on her own and they’d be able to go home faster! She was getting rather hungry after all.

Sliding her backpack back on Kara happily made her way out of the candy store and into the main part of the mall, trying to remember what way she was supposed to go to get back to the book store.

When Kara had felt like no one was paying attention to her, one person was. The candy store owner, who had instantly noticed when she walked in and wasn’t with Lena. And though they knew nothing about her, they could at least connect the dots from their past visits that when she came in and had Lena with her, she was with her for a reason, a very important reason, the owner realized as they noticed Kara quickly walking back out of the store after filling her usual basket and suddenly it was gone, tempted to chase after her they figured in case the girl had a mental breakdown or something, the safest option for everyone was calling mall security.

Kara had managed to get halfway in the complete wrong direction when she was startled by the man stepping in front of her, though she attempted to step around him he ended up just cutting her off every time. Furrowing her brows in confusion she tried to think of the English word for what she was supposed to say to ask him to move, only he beat her to the punch.

“Ma’am, I’m going to need you to come with me”

“Oh um, I’m not supposed to go anywhere with stra...um...people I don’t know” Kara explained with a quick nod, holding on to the straps of her backpack. Though this man seemed nice enough Kara had seen all black outfits before and she wasn’t a fan of them, nor the people that wore them that’s for sure, except for Alex....Oh no Alex!

“I really do have to be getting back to my friend...Can you tell me which way the book place is please?”

The security guard made eye contact with the co-worker he’d brought along, the one standing behind Kara. A silent conversation that they needed to take her in, without causing a scene and clearly that was going to be an issue, though not the most ethical, they figured their plan would work.

“Of course, we’ll escort you there”

Instantly perking up Kara smiled rather brightly. “Oh thank you! I don’t know if her book reading thingy will be over yet, that book was huge but I really do want to get back to her,”

The moment she was lead into a small room with nothing but a table and chair in it Kara realized this wasn’t the book store, and she didn’t want to be here.

“Um...I think we made a wrong turn, I’ll just be going-”

“Sit down please Miss,”

“N-No I really should be-”

“Sit.”

Startling at the raised voice Kara plopped down in the metal chair, biting harshly into her lip she looked down at her lap, that uncomfortable feeling in her chest. 

“Your backpack please”

“W-Why?”

“Ma’am.” 

Peeking up at the man Kara sighed softly as she shrugged her backpack off, hesitating before holding it out to the man, noticing his friend enter the room again as well Kara quickly looked around before her gaze fell back on them.

“Do you know why you’re here?”

“Um...B-Because you tricked me? I really do need to be going”

“You’re here because we got a call saying that you could have possibly been stealing, all we’re doing is checking and asking you a few questions.”

“S-Stealing?”

Looking clearly confused Kara instantly tensed up the moment she noticed the other man taking her backpack and moving it to a table behind them. Leaning over a bit to try and watch him she furrowed her brows even tighter. 

“I don’t under...Please don’t touch those” she quickly adverted as she noticed the man pulling stuff out of her bag, standing up on instinct Kara flinched and squeaked as she was quickly told to sit down again.

Doing her best to take a few deep breaths like Alex had taught her Kara glared down at her lap, she was incredibly uncomfortable and she hadn’t felt this way since the DEO.

“Did you pay for any of the items in the bag?”

“P-p...I don’t...understand” she mumbled, a frustrated and sad sigh leaving her lips. “I...would really like to go home please”

Looking between each other the two security guards shared a sigh and a shrug. Clearly this wasn’t going anywhere.

“Look Ma’am....Everything you took will have to be returned to the stores. We won’t press charges, but you may be banned from the premises,”

Still looking greatly confused and clearly not understanding the next time Kara looked up she noticed all of her candy and the Lego boxes now sitting on the table in front of her.

“But those are...” Instantly growing wide eyed as she noticed the man pulling her Tiger out of the bag Kara perked up. “He’s mine! Please don’t hurt him” 

“Everything will need to go back”

“But...he’s...He’s mine! He’s my best friend, we...We share a bed at home, he’s mine...”

Even though she didn’t understand what was going on the panic was truly setting in as Kara realized her tiger was going to be taken away. Her tiger that was clearly worn and dirty and definitely didn’t belong with the shiny brand new objects sitting on the table.

Kara’s gaze stayed intently on her Tiger, not even noticing that the cereal, crayons, and other small knick nacks were also being taken out of her backpack.

“He’s mine....Give him back to me”

Though she didn’t want to be rude, that panic was taking over and was being replaced with a protective side. Looking between the two men who were clearly ignoring her Kara curled her fingers into fists, telling herself to relax she last thing she needed was to start shooting heat beams out of her eyes.

“I...P-Please give me my Tiger back”

Again ignored.

Standing up Kara let out a frustrated sigh as she moved over to the men, reaching for her Tiger she had managed to grasp his leg before they noticed and that was when the unthinkable happened.

With the man hanging on to one end, and Kara hanging on to the other, the moment she went to tug him back, her Tiger’s leg ripped clean off, stuffing flying everywhere and a horrified gasp leaving the tiny alien.

“Y-You....You...He’s broken! Why...Why would you hurt him like that?!” looking down at her own hands Kara couldn’t help the tears that quickly filled her eyes as the realization set in that she had done it...she had hurt him. “Oh no...Oh no, oh no” kneeling down she tried to scoop up as much of the stuffing as she could.

“I think you should leave,”

“Dude she’s the one that grabbed-”

“Don’t worry I’ve got this,”

Taking the remainder of the stuffed animal the security guard leaned down to be at Kara’s level. “I’m sorry about your friend, what’s your name?”

Squeezing her eyes shut Kara shook her head slowly, shaky breaths leaving her as the panic settled in her chest once more.

“H-He’s...broken...I...I broke him...” she looked wide eyed, her breath coming in rapid paces as she couldn’t seem to be able to take an actual breath.

“Hey, I’m sure you can get him fixed. What’s your name?”

“K-Kara...” 

“Okay Kara, I’m going to get you some water and then we’re going to talk okay? But we have to stay civil okay?”

“C-civil?”

“Don’t worry about it,”

Gathering all the stuffing off the floor Kara crawled around until she had every little piece picked up, setting it on the table she delicately set her Tiger’s leg next to the stuffing, slowly sitting back down in the chair she wiped at her eyes, harshly playing with her sleeves.

“C-Can I please go home...”

“Kara, do you know your phone number?”

Furrowing her brows she shook her head quickly.

“What about your parents number?”

The moment the word parents set in Kara felt that panic rise in her chest once more, the tears welling in her eyes again. 

“I...don’t....n-no parents.” she mumbled, tugging her sleeves over her hands as she hid against her palms, trying to take a few deep breaths.

“Okay...Well do you have a guardian?”

“G-Guardi...I don’t...” sighing a frustrated sigh Kara cried into her hands. “I don’t understand....I just want to go home...”

“Do you have someone who takes care of you?”

Nodding slowly Kara wiped at her eyes with her knuckles. “L-Lena...She...She takes care of me...she’s my friend,”

“Great, do you know her phone number? So I can call her and tell her your here?”

Instantly looking up Kara shook her head a little. “N-No um...I’m...I’m not supposed to be with Lena today, not until later and she...She’s really important but I....I love her a lot...um...yes...I...I need her here.” 

Patting around on her body Kara rubbed the side of her head for a moment trying to remember if she had her phone with her today. “My...phone is in my backpack,” she mumbled quietly, rubbing at her eyes once more she reached out to grab her Tiger’s leg, cradling that to her chest for a little bit of comfort.

As the security guard moved to grab her phone Kara didn’t even notice as he went through it and found Lena’s contact number. “I’m going to give her a call and then I’ll be right back okay Kara?”

Nodding absently Kara watched him leave before she quickly moved to grab the rest of her poor Tiger, bringing him closer and delicately laying him on the table, looking over his leg and all the stuffing and feeling even worse about the fact she had literally destroyed her best friend. “I’m sorry...I’m s-sorry”

“She’s clearly not all there,”

“Which is why we’re calling someone for her. I don’t think she realized she stole things but she clearly can’t be on her own.” The security guard said simply, getting the number from Kara’s phone he used their’s to quickly call it.

The moment the line picked up he sighed a little in relief. “Hello is this Lena? This is Clint from the National City mall security, we have Kara here and we’ve been informed that you’re her guardian. She was caught stealing and there seems to be a lot of miscommunication between us, and she is quite upset. So we were hoping if you are able to, that you would be able to come down here and we can explain the situation and release Kara back to you.”

Once he hung up Clint moved back into the room with Kara, bringing a small cup of water with him as he set it in front of her, being mindful not to touch any part of the stuffed toy.

“Lena is on her way Kara, so we’ll just sit tight and then we can get this all sorted out okay?”

Nodding a bit Kara delicately took the water, slowly drinking it as she finally started to calm down.

“...she’s gonna be so mad at me...” she mumbled sadly as she looked down at her Tiger. Truly the only thing Kara was concerned about was her tiger and the fact that Lena might be upset that she broke him, that she couldn’t control her powers and she broke him. Truly still not understanding why she was here or what was happening.

It had only taken a quick chat with the man at the candy store for Alex to realize that Kara was gone, somewhere in the mall, until he had shouted out at her that she should probably check in with security and that was when Alex’s heart sank into her stomach. Security meant Kara had been caught doing...something. God only knows what.

Quickly making her way to the customer service counter she sighed. “Hi yes, I have a friend, her name is Kara...I’m looking out for her today and I was just informed that she is with the mall security team. If you could just let me get back there I can figure out this situation,”

“Just one moment please,”

Watching as the woman at the desk made a call, explained the situation and then chatted with the person on the other end. Alex absently tapped her fingers against the table, growing a little too impatient but telling herself to chill out.

“They can take you back there, but unfortunately you are not going to be able to see her, as the team have called her legal guardian to come and pick her up. Once the guardian arrives you’ll be free to see her.”

“Legal guardian? But she....Ah fuck.”

Lena wanted to talk about what had just happened, but she was in no position to try and explain something to Kara if she really didn’t understand any of it herself. Tomorrow, she already knew, was going to be a day full of being trapped inside her own thoughts. 

Doing her best to push everything out of her head, Lena scooted closer behind Kara and wrapped her arms around her. She nestled her face into the back of Kara’s neck, breathing in her scent for comfort.

“I love you, Kara. Thank you.. For everything,” 

All the thoughts that were racing in her head about if she had kissed right or if she was bad at it, not to mention the fluttering that was still in her stomach all of those came to a halt the moment she felt Lena’s arms wrap around her. Smiling to herself she gently scooted herself against Lena, making sure they were completely connected.

“I love you back, forever ever” she murmured in response, feeling Lena settle against her Kara found she was able to calm down herself enough to finally close her eyes and settle down for sleep.

If Lena were thinking anything at all, she would have known that this probably shouldn’t have been happening. She was entrusted with Kara’s well-being, and kissing an alien refugee that she had taken into her home would certainly be against the rules if there were any.

Her heart raced when Kara moved to be closer to her, the warmth between them almost on fire as they lay beneath the blankets. She could feel, at first, that she had taken Kara by surprise. That should have been enough to make Lena back off, but the reciprocation that happened was entirely unexpected. It just made Lena feel even more lost in her confusion.

She barely registered the sharp bump of their noses, but their lips disconnected, and Kara’s face was instantly full of worry.

“No… No, you didn’t hurt me,” Lena whispered, her voice shaking enough that she could hear it. Her chest heaved as she tried to catch her breath. For as long as she could remember, a simple kiss was never enough to make her breathless. Her most tragic flaw was how she would become a slave to this particular human impulse.. But this was something different.

Her face flushed with an unfamiliar blush of heat at the kiss to the tip of her nose. Kara’s face was still so close, and her mind went blank. Her eyes fluttered back closed as her chin tilted to pull Kara into another kiss. Her stomach was flipping and she felt entirely drunk.

Perhaps it was the dizziness, or the sudden urge to pull Kara even closer, but Lena’s mind started to clear. It was becoming very apparent that she shouldn’t be doing what she already was. And, very reluctantly and against everything in her body that was screaming at her to keep going, Lena pulled back.

Taking in a deep breath, Lena let her eyes open, lids hooded as the took in the sight of a slightly awestruck Kara.

“Sleep time,” Lena smiled softly, letting her head sink into the pillow. The sooner she could calm down and go to sleep, the longer she could push off the inevitability that she was going to overthink the entire night.

Feeling relief wash over her as Lena confirmed that she was fine Kara nodded ever so slightly, her heart racing with a mix of worry and excitement. Though even with Lena’s confirmation that she didn’t hurt her, Kara didn’t have long to overthink it as before she knew it Lena’s gentle lips were pressed against her own once more.

Telling herself to be even more careful this time she lightly rested her hand against Lena’s arm, making sure not to move too much but just enough to be able to kiss Lena back. After all she didn’t want to end up moving and startling herself again, plus she truly didn’t want Lena to pull away before she could figure out if she was actually doing this right.

Just as Kara’s fingers gently curled into the fabric of Lena’s sleeve was when Lena pulled away from her and Kara found herself blinking a few times, furrowing her brows but soon staring over at Lena with the same love and adoration she always had.

“I...Oh..um...Okay,” she whispered in response, though Lena’s smile was a comfort Kara knew by this point that Lena telling her it was time to sleep meant that she had to hold off on her usual many questions or conversations. Pulling back just enough to settle herself against the pillows, reluctantly untangling their legs in favour of curling her own up Kara reached for her tiger, hugging it tightly against her chest, glancing at Lena for a long few moments before forcing herself to roll over to have her back facing Lena, clutching her tiger that much tighter she found herself absently brushing her fingers against her bottom lip.

Considering Kara normally had hundreds of questions for Lena constantly bouncing around in her head she found at this point she really only had two which was if Lena would ever kiss her again and if she had done it right when it came to kissing her back, because boy did she ever hope so.

Lena smiled as she pulled back the covers to slip into the crisp sheets. It was always adorable how manic Kara would get at night, running around to make sure that she did everything in the right order to get ready for sleep. She supposed it was difficult to remember everything, especially when it was all new to someone like that. 

She waited patiently, setting her alarm for the morning and plugging her phone in to charge. After all, it would be another day with someone else on Kara duty, so she had to be sure to be reachable at all times. It wasn’t necessary, but it would be just dumb luck if there was an issue and Lena couldn’t be available to sort anything out.

She watched Kara walk into the room, and everted her eyes to allow Kara to dress for bed. Again, it was that little nagging feeling of awwkardness that Lena was having trouble pinpointing why it was an issue now. But then again, it had been a crazy day.

Lena welcomed Kara happily against her body, smiling from the kiss.

“I’m okay. Because I have you,” Lena muttered softly, tapping the tip of her finger gently against Kara’s nose as she settled. They both relaxed into the plush mattress side by side, legs tangled under the covers. Even in the darkness of the room, Lena could see the way Kara’s eyes sparkled with curiosity and love that oozed from her at every moment. Lena was thankful that, where she would be weeping by herself over the pain of once again being left by the only man she was truly sure she had ever loved, she was instead being comforted by this exquisite alien. 

Letting her hand travel to Kara’s face, Lena traced the lines of her cheek, marveling in the soft warmth of her skin. “Thank you, Kara. For everything,” She whispered, the pad of her thumb moving across the swell of Kara’s lower lip. She wasn’t thinking and certainly wasn’t comprehending. Absorbed by those brilliant blue eyes, Lena closed the small distance to press her lips to Kara’s. 

Reaching for her tiger Kara was happy that Lena had brought it to bed with them, knowing that Lena was always looking out for her and somehow always knew the things she would worry about steps before she ever seemed to worry about it. Setting the tiger on her pillow behind her Kara made sure to stay gentle as she rolled back to face Lena, after all Lena was the focus tonight, well truly she was always her focus but tonight it was extra important.

Smiling shyly at Lena’s words she giggled at the tap to her nose, scooting ever closer to Lena to nuzzle against her for a moment before she plopped back down onto the pillow, naturally half on Lena’s pillow and half on her own now, like it usually was.

In typical fashion Kara’s mind was racing, trying to figure out the emotions she had been feeling once more.Why her chest would tighten and she’d feel those feelings about being away from Lena. That ontop of reminding herself it was quiet time she took a few small deep breaths, looking over at Lena and watching her gently. Of course she believed Lena was okay but that still didn’t stop Kara from wanting to make sure, wanting to protect Lena from anything, especially sadness.

Smiling softly at the touch Kara gently leaned into Lena’s hand. Just as she was about to reply she felt Lena’s thumb moving on her lip, her heart fluttering in her chest. Though she smiled gently before she could think of anything else but Lena the small space between them was closing and Lena’s lips were pressed against her own.

Furrowing her brows for a moment Kara hesitated, feeling herself tense up as she truly didn’t know what to do. This was what she had always thought kissing was when she was back on Krypton, but from what she had seen on earth, it didn’t seem like it was a thing they did. But Lena had done it...to her...she’d...kissed her...She’d kissed her!

Even as her heart was pounding in her chest Kara tightened her legs around Lena’s, being gentle and very tentative as she leaned closer to Lena attempting to reciprocate the kiss but truly not knowing how or what she was supposed to do in return.

But it felt nice, better than nice, wonderful actually. As everything always did with Lena and Kara knew that it was something she was going to have to learn about, after all she wanted to make sure that Lena would want to do it with her again, she couldn’t be bad at it! Not when Lena was literally the best at everything.

Who would have thought with such a small gesture that Kara could literally feel herself brimming with love, excitement and adoration towards Lena. Which was something she tried to express as she leaned into Lena, though Kara found herself tilting her head and knocking their noses together. Thankfully not too hard but enough to break the calmness to the moment.

“I...I’m so sorry! Are you okay? I didn’t hurt you did I?” she asked, feeling that panic settle in her chest as she carefully leaned over to kiss Lena’s nose, knowing Lena always kissed her owies better.

“I can bring you into the office sometime this week if you want,” Lena smiled, knowing that just one day wouldn’t bore Kara to death, “I’m sure Jess would love to spend a little time with you,”

It was strange how true that was, and how Kara had quickly inserted herself so firmly into so many peoples lives. Even those who didn’t really know where she came from and why she was living with Lena. Kara was just a joy to be around, and her childlike innocence was a breath of fresh air.

Climbing out of the tub, Lena grabbed her own towel to dry off and looked behind her. She wasn’t sure why she expected Kara to instantly follow suit, not when it was usual for her to wait until all the water was drained. It was the simple things that gave the alien joy, and that was one of the things that Lena loved most about her.

When Kara finally climbed out, she rushed around getting things ready while Lena took her time to dry off. Smiling, Lena rolled her eyes a little at Kara’s eagerness to get into bed. With all the energy she had, Lena really was always surprised that she could settle into bed so easily and relax.

“Thank you, darling,” Lena smiled, hanging up her towel and moving to dress for bed. It touched her right in the heart that Kara was taking care of her when she really needed it. She never relied on anyone to care for and dote on her, but it was truly a nod to everything she didn’t know she was missing.

Dressed, Lena picked up Kara’s tiger and padded to the bedroom. The bed had never looked so inviting - even more so when she knew that Kara could be wrapped around her.

“Are you ready?”

“Yes please! I want to be able to see you working and hanging out in your office with the statues!” she said happily giggling a little. “I like visiting you and Jess, even with the scary phones,” she added in. Staying wrapped in her towel Kara let Lena have her space before following after her and getting herself ready for bed by brushing her hair and teeth, knowing that she was capable of going these things herself, but it truly was more fun when Lena would do them with her or make the experience more fun, after all brushing your teeth was so boring! But tonight she suffered through doing it on her own, instantly beaming as she noticed Lena grabbing her tiger and taking him with her to the bedroom.

“Um...Almost!” she chirped, hanging up her towel Kara quickly skipped into her room, tugging on some pajama pants and an LCorp fundraiser shirt. Smoothing her hands over the shirt she beamed as she headed into Lena’s room, gently crawling on to the bed she leaned over to gently kiss Lena’s cheek before happily plopping down onto her back.

“Are you okay?” she asked softly, rolling on to her side and scooting closer to gently tangle her legs with Lena’s.

“Good choice. I think that may have been a little too… toasty for me. But if we ever go camping and need to light a fire, you can definitely do the honors,”

Going on vacations with Kara really did sounds nice. She made a mental note to herself that she had to look ahead and see when it would be viable to take a little time off so that the two of them could get away. It would certainly make up for all the time they were spending apart recently. Which if Lena was being honest with herself, wasn’t very much time apart at all. But it sure did feel that way.

“You know.. You coming into my life was the best gift I have ever received,” Lena sighed, relaxing against Kara. The bath water was warm, but it was nothing in comparison to Kara’s skin. She was her own personal heater.

With Kara’s hot breath and nose tickling her neck, Lena felt the all too familiar feeling of butterflies starting to vibrate in her stomach. It was something that she hadn’t really experienced before like this, even with all the times that she and Kara had been cuddled up with one another, with or without clothes. She cleared her throat, shifting her thighs to will it to all go away. 

She was human, after all. And unfortunately, humans were usually a slave to their most primal urges. Even if they were highly inappropriate. She would probably just chalk this up to the emotional distress after Jack leaving, confusing the type of love that she had for Kara. It wasn’t the aliens fault that she was soft, loving and built like a flawless Greek Goddess. 

“We should… Probably head to bed soon. Alex is planning a pretty exciting day for you tomorrow while I’m at the office,”

Contently resting with her cheek against Lena’s shoulder Kara sighed softly in content, giving Lena a big of a tighter hug but making sure to only do it for a moment before letting her arms stay wrapped around her middle. “You are for me too, I...love you very much Lena,” she whispered quietly.

Closing her eyes Kara focused on listening to their breathing and Lena’s heartbeat, as it was normally what she’d listen to when she was trying to calm herself down and keep herself calm, normally when they were going to bed or Lena was talking to her about something important.

So it was obvious the moment she heard Lena’s heart rate pick up, furrowing her brows Kara just nuzzled against Lena once more, reminding herself to be gentle and stay calm. Though as Lena’s heart rate didn’t seem to slow down Kara was just about to ask Lena about it when Lena beat her to the punch and spoke up first.

“S-She is? What is she planning?” she asked curiously, almost instantly perking up. “Also when can I come to LCorp again? I want to bring Jess her drawings, unless you were going to take them to her that’d be okay too,” Kara decided with a small nod to herself. 

Giving Lena one last hug she reluctantly let her go, scooting back a bit and letting Lena get out first Kara was content to watch the water drain out and her usual favourite little cyclone of water rush down the drain before she carefully climbed out of the tub herself, making sure to put the bucket away before grabbing her towel.

“I grabbed your favourites!” Kara chirped, pointing to Lena’s pajamas placed neatly on the counter, next to where Lena had put her tiger.

Lena let her eyes flutter closed as Kara began to work on her hair. She had definitely been paying attention when the roles had been reversed, taking great care to use all the right products in the right order and washing out the entirety of the soaps. Actions that required the upmost delicacy were always on the more difficult side for Kara and her absurd strength, so Lena was incredibly impressed.

“This feels amazing,” Lena praised with a smile as Kara started rinsing out the conditioner. When the task was finished, Lena relished in the feeling of Kara’s arms around her. Most of their time together that they spent cuddling, Lena was usually the one to hold Kara. Given that the alien had literally lost her entire world, Lena felt as though it was the least that she could do to help her feel safe and grounded. Taking this role of the ‘little spoon’ seemingly hit Lena in the chest with a bag of bricks. The emptiness she had been feeling after Jacks’ departure was satiated and filled.

“Until the water gets cold. Humans are very fragile to temperature,” Lena smiled, leaning back into Kara’s embrace. “But I love you very much. Thank you, darling,” 

Lena smiled softly, turning her head to the side to kiss Kara ever so softly on the cheek. “I feel so much better,” 

The praise from Lena had Kara puffing out her chest proudly. After all, Lena constantly took care of her, possibly more than she deserved and all that Kara wanted to do was show Lena how loved she was and she was happy she could do that, even if just a bit. 

Nuzzling against Lena’s back Kara pouted a bit. “I can warm it up,” she said with a nod, thinking she could use the laser thing from her eyes. What was it they had called it...Heat Vision? “Hmm maybe not, that’s not a good idea,” she commented quietly to herself. 

Shifting a little Kara wrapped her arms around Lena’s waist, managing to slip her legs past Lena and to gently pull Lena between her legs and against her front. “There perfect,” she sighed happily in content.

The kiss had her blushing as she tilted her head to hide against Lena’s neck, nuzzling her nose there softly. “I’m glad, I wanna take care of you! Because you always take care of me and you’re the most amazing ever,”

Lena watched as Kara got back onto her feet and started undressing. Deciding to give her a little privacy, she averted her eyes to the water, running her fingers through it as she waited. It was a little silly, given as they had seen each other naked pretty much every day, but she wanted to give Kara just a little sense of boundaries.

All of that went right out of the window when Kara finally settled into the tub and pulled her into a hug. Regardless, she wrapped her arms around the alien, letting her snuggle into her neck.

“It’s much more fun if you wash my hair in here with me, though,” Lena insisted, letting her hand soothingly run up and down Kara’s back. She was always so soft, which was a big plus for Kara having alien genes. All of the exfoliating, skin care and blemish problems humans had to deal with weren’t Kara’s concern.

“Here,” Lena prompted, reluctantly letting Kara go to reach outside of the bath to grab the bucket for her and carefully turned around so her back was to her.

Contently settled against Lena Kara decided that this was rather nice and Lena rubbing her back was definitely calming. Though as she felt Lena start to move Kara couldn’t help but pout slightly, taking a brief moment to nuzzle against Lena’s neck once more before pushing herself to sit up. 

Happily taking the bucket back from Lena she scooted herself back a bit to give Lena more room to move. Filling the bucket Kara reminded herself to be careful as she shifted to sit up a little herself. “Tilt your head back please...oh and eyes closed!” she commented, remembering to all the times Lena would wash her hair and what she’d be instructed to do.

Once Lena was settled Kara carefully poured the water over Lena’s hair, making sure to do her best to avoid her face. Looking over Lena’s collection of shampoo and products Kara reminded herself which order they were supposed to go in and happily got to work massaging the shampoo into Lena’s hair.

Once she took her time rinsing the shampoo out and following the same steps for the conditioner Kara beamed once that was all rinsed out. Wrapping her arms happily around Lena’s shoulders she nuzzled her nose against her hair. “All done!” she murmured happily. “I love you, can we just stay right here?” she asked, sighing happily in content as she hugged Lena a bit tighter.

Lena had expected the codependence from how Kara had imprinted on her since day one, and it wasn’t one sided. She truly didn’t know what she would do if she had to step back from Kara or spend less time with her. Lena was already having a little bit of a rough time when she had to go to the office without her.

“We will always make sure we get enough special Kara and Lena time, no matter what,” Lena insisted, giving the alien a soft smile. She moved to sit back a little more in the tub, making room.

“Why don’t you get in with me? You look like you need a little bit of a relax, too. And nothing would make me happier right now,” 

Looking up at Lena as she listened to her Kara nodded a bit as she noticed Lena’s smile. Truly it was hard to understand what she was feeling and that she felt possessive over Lena, even if she wanted her to be happy around other people but thankfully before she could grow overly upset about trying to figure it out that was when Kara noticed Lena moving, and as she was just about to point out that Lena couldn’t get out yet because they hadn’t washed her hair that was when Lena was offering for her to join and Kara instantly perked up.

“R-Really? You mean it?” she asked, biting her lip. “But...” furrowing her brows for a moment as she glanced at the bucket in her hands Kara remembered the amount of times that Lena had managed to wash her hair when the two of them had been in the tub together so Kara was sure she’d be able to make sure Lena’s got washed as well.

Setting the bucket aside and climbing up she quickly tugged her clothes off, reaching out she held on to Lena’s hands as she carefully stepped into the tub, slowly sitting down to make sure she didn’t spill any of the water Kara grinned as she instantly leaned over to gently hug Lena.

“We still have to wash your hair though,” Kara stated with a nod as she nuzzled against Lena’s neck. After all she had a plan and she had to make sure it ended up getting played through.

Lena looked across at Kara, her face melting into a smile of complete adoration. She did worry that Kara would get a little uneasy with not getting all of her attention while Jack was staying, and had been very impressed that Kara hadn’t acted out.

“I don’t want to be with anyone else in the whole world as much as I want to be with you,” Lena insisted, picking up some bubbles to delicately place some against Kara’s nose. This wonderful, sweet alien never deserved to have a frown. Not ever.

“If I got it my way, I would have you live with me forever and ever. No matter where I move, where I live or who lives with me, I’ll always want you there. I promise,”

Through everything, Lena certainly knew what it was like to feel unwanted in her own home, and she would be damned if Kara ever even felt any of those things that she had growing up. Even if Superman himself showed up and tried to take Kara away, Lena would fight tooth and nail against it. At least, that was, unless Kara wanted it otherwise.

“How would I ever be able to survive without your cuddles, darling?”

Reluctantly looking up at Lena Kara managed to catch her gaze just before the bubbled were placed on her nose which caused her to giggle as she wrinkled her nose before wiping the bubbles off. “That’s a good point.” Kara pointed out in terms of the not being able to survive without her cuddles.

“I just...” Chewing on her lip for a moment as she tried to think of how to phrase what she wanted to say. “I want you to be happy and I like when your happy and...I like Jack he was really nice to me, and to you...But I also...I dunno, felt this weird feeling in here,” she commented absently rubbing her chest.

“I know it’s nice to share and that you should be around people who also love you, but...sometimes I just want you all to myself,” she tried to explain furrowing her brows as she absently rubbed the side of her head, not quite knowing if what she was saying to Lena made any sense, considering the entire emotion made no sense to her.

Lena let Kara guide her into the tub, and it was really evident how much she had learned while living with Lena for the relatively short time that she had. She really was a world away from that scared alien who ran rampant in Lena’s building and now she was empathetic, sweet and every so caring. Lena truly loved her above all else.

“Thank you, my little love,” Lena smiled as she settled back into the warm tub, that was surprisingly the perfect temperature. So much in Lena’s life was a total mess, but not home. Not now. Things here were utterly perfect and would always be, as long as she had Kara.

She eyed Kara grabbing the bucket that Lena used to help wash Kara’s hair. It really was so sweet that she was taking the initiative by having them swap positions for the evening. 

“It was a lot of fun, thank you. Jack and I hadn’t been on an actual date in quite a while, so it was great,” Lena sighed, running her hands through the warm water as she relaxed even further into the water. “Maybe one day, he won’t have to stay in Metropolis,”

Nodding a little Kara looked down at the bucket, absently playing with the little handle on it. Truly it was taking a lot of her self control to not play in the tub, or with the bubbles but she kept reminding herself that this was for Lena, it was Lena’s time. 

“Do you...” Furrowing her brows she frowned a little as she kept her gaze focused on the bucket in her hands. “Do you wanna...be with Jack more than you wanna be with me?” she asked quietly, the question coming out in a bit of a mumble as she kept her gaze intently down. 

There was no denying that Kara tended to still feel guilty about their arrangement, even though she loved and adored Lena more than anything else and appreciated her beyond explanation, there was still that part of her that liked to remind herself that Lena was forced to look after her.

“’Cause...If...If he moves here that would mean he’d get my room and I’d have to leave...And I don’t wanna leave you,”

Lena was initially very confused about what Kara was trying to do. But, keeping her mouth shut, Lena happily accepted the tiger and held him close. Though she was usually one that was constantly in control of situations, Lena was happy to follow Kara’s instructions. She smiled softly when Kara referred to her sad feelings and did as she was told - holding the tiger closer into her chest while she waited. 

It wasn’t long at all until Lena realized what was happening, and couldn’t fight the smile from her face. Kara was taking the initiative and taking care of her, just as Lena had been taking care of Kara since she had come to stay with her. Lena could have sworn she felt her heart grow up a size in her chest.

On Kara’s return, Lena happily took her hand and let the alien guide her to the bathroom and the hot bath she could see waiting for her. Kara had been so excited about the bath bombs and new bath toys, she was very touched that Kara made this about what Lena liked - the smell of lavender wafting towards her nose.

“Oh Kara..” Lena smiled, feeling as though she wanted to cry again, but for an entirely different and lovely reason. “This is just so wonderful, thank you,” Lena sighed, placing the Tiger down very carefully on the bathroom counter and giving Kara a kiss on the side of her head. “You are truly the best person on Earth,”

“No that’s you,” Kara replied instantly, smiling at the kiss and leaning over to place a kiss to Lena’s head in return. Giving Lena a gentle hug she hesitated for a moment before backing up and reaching for the zipper on Lena’s dress, it truly was so pretty but Lena was the prettiest always. Telling herself to be extra careful as she slowly pulled it down Kara breathed a sigh of relief as she didn’t end up damaging the dress in any way. 

“Careful...careful.” She whispered to herself as she got to work carefully and gently helping Lena get undressed, which of course wasn’t needed and Lena could do herself  but if Kara was going to take care of Lena she was going to make sure Lena didn’t have to lift a finger for anything!

Holding Lena’s hand Kara watched carefully as Lena got settled into the tub, feeling relief wash through her. Of course they’d had baths together a million times before but remembering all the times she had slipped or tripped, she knew this time had to be perfect.

Once Lena was settled Kara moved to grab the little bucket Lena had gotten for her when she’d wash her hair in the morning, plopping down next to the tub she held the bucket contently in her lap, giving Lena a soft smile as she waited for her to be ready.

“Did um...Did you have a fun time though?” she asked hesitantly, not wanting to upset Lena more but genuinely wanting to hear about her night and the adventure she got to go on.

It hurt Lena a little, her mouth parting to make way for words when Kara asked where Jack was. Though Lena was upset about having to say goodbye, part of her was perhaps even more worried about the fact that Kara may be upset. She had experienced so much loss in her already short life, regardless of spending half of it in a coma. Lena would hate her having to deal with more.

Thankfully, Kara seemed more concerned about Lena’s wellbeing and pulling her into a hug. Lena let out the breath that she hadn’t even realized she had been holding and returned the warm, secure embrace. 

“Yes,” Lena nodded, pushing back the tears that once again threatened to spill. “I thought you might want some cake for after your bath,” She smiled, moving to put the to-go box on the counter top. “I hope you had a nice time here, watching your movie,”

Lena pushed back her feelings, walking over to look over the drawing and coloring that Kara had gotten up to. She really had nothing to worry about, and that warmed her heart. “These are beautiful, darling,” 

While Kara was upset that Jack had to leave already, considering he was very kind to her and she did like him a lot. There was a small part of her that was happy it would just be her and Lena again. After all, with Lena working every day and sometimes even at home and Kara barely going to LCorp with her now, truly Kara cherished her alone time with Lena. So while she wasn’t happy that her new friend was gone already and Lena was clearly upset about it, there was that part of her that was happy to have Lena back all to herself.

Rocking excitedly on her heels upon hearing that Lena had brought cake home for her Kara beamed as she followed Lena around from the small distance from the kitchen to the living room. “Thank you for thinking of me!” she chirped, nodding as she moved to sit back on the floor to show Lena what she had been working on. 

“I had fun, I stayed right here the whole time! Just like I promised and I only moved to put my snack plate in the sink, it was kind of scary a few times but then I was okay,” she explained as she looked at her drawings, moving a few to the side before finding the one she had drawn for Lena, which was a recreation of the bouquet of flowers she had picked for Lena that first day she’d stayed with Alex. “This one’s for you,” she explained happily, holding it up to Lena with a bright smile. Though that was when Kara really looked at Lena and noticed her puffy eyes and tear stained cheeks, and truly it made her heart ache.

Glancing around for a moment she furrowed her brows, she hadn’t really seen Lena upset before, she’d seen her worried or angry or exhausted but not like this and Kara honestly was a little panicked at the thought. What if she couldn’t fix it? What if she couldn’t make Lena feel better? No! She could do it, Lena always made sure she was okay and happy and took care of her when she was sad so she could do the same for Lena! 

She just had to keep being brave like she had all night with her Tiger. 

With a small nod to herself Kara climbed up, grabbing her Tiger she carefully handed him to Lena, waiting until he was tucked nicely in Lena’s arms before she reached up to delicately brush her thumb against Lena’s tearstained cheek, leaning over she gently pressed their noses together before leaving a tiny kiss on the end of Lena’s nose. “I love you,” she said happily, reluctantly pulling away she headed down the hallway before pausing in her steps.

“Um...Just hold on just a second please! And um, make sure you give him a real big hug! He’ll take all the sad feelings away, trust me!” Kara explained gesturing to her tiger in Lena’s arms before she nodded once more and scurried down the hallway.

Okay she could do this, same way as Lena would take care of her. Heading into the bathroom she made sure to be careful as she started the tub, looking through the cupboards and noticing the instant colour difference between her bubbles and Lena’s Kara grabbed one of Lena’s, remembering it as the one Lena had explained was calming to her, well those and the icky salts but she wasn’t going to mess around with those.

Adding just a bit to the water she debated before adding a tiny bit more, quickly putting the bottle back she made her way into Lena’s room, looking through her drawers and picking out a comfy pair of pajamas. Quickly bringing those into the bathroom with her she glanced everything over before nodding in approval.

Making her way back into the living room and to Lena Kara smiled as she reached for Lena’s hand, taking it gently and leading her towards the bathroom. “I know I always feel sleepy after I cry, so I thought that this would help! Since you said it’s the calming bubbles and maybe I can wash your hair! And give you lots of hugs,”

Lena felt as though her heart was going to burst. Between watching how sweet and considerate Jack was with preparing Kara a snack while saying his goodbyes, and the longing she felt inside of her from leaving Kara behind, Lena was feeling a little overwhelmed in the emotional department.

“I love you, Kara. Have fun and be safe,” Lena called out, trying her best to keep the façade of being okay with this arrangement. She took in a deep breath and let Jack guide her out of the apartment.

Dinner, and Jack, had been absolutely lovely. Even with all the time they had know each other, before they had even jumped into the world of business, they still always had things to learn about one another. Jack was always a refreshing surprise. There was absolutely no doubt in Lena’s mind that he was her perfect match. No matter how much time they spent apart, it was always as though no time had passed at all. She still, and always, loved him.

“I do wish you didn’t have to go back,” Lena sighed, picking up her second glass of vintage red wine.

“For now. But.. Maybe not forever,” Jack smiled, shooting Lena a wink.

“So you keep saying. You are quite the man of mystery Mr. Spheer,” 

He let out a low laugh, taking his card back out of the check book and replacing it with a very generous tip.

“Besides, you seem to have your hands full at the moment,”

With a breathy laugh, Lena’s eyes darted back to the phone she had made sure was face up on the table. Just in case Kara needed her.. For anything. Her anxiety had been awful, but Jack had been very supportive, even insisting that she could just call Kara a few times just to check in to ease her thoughts. Lena resisted, knowing that she had to start learning to trust that everything would be okay and that Kara needed the time and the space to learn how to make good decisions. It was what she deserved.

“Kara is… She’s-”

“Perfect. Kara is perfect, Lee. She’s great for you. I’ve never seen you so content. Not since we used to tinker around in that garage, before adulthood crept up on us like a bulldozer,”

After finishing their drinks, the pair of them left the restaurant to walk back to Lena’s apartment building where Jack’s vehicle would be waiting to take him to the airport. It was that familiar feeling of impending loss that never got any easier, no matter how many times Lena went through it. This time felt worse than the last, after only getting to spend a very short time together. 

“I can feel your thoughts,” Jack smiled, comedy being his usual form of deflection when he felt the sadness of a goodbye. 

“And you know what I’m thinking,” Lena quipped back, holding Jack’s arm just that little bit tighter as they walked. It felt like a funeral procession.

They came to a stop by the black vehicle and Lena swallowed. Her throat was dry. Jack moved to stand in front of her, looking down at her with those deep, solemn eyes that always broke her heart at times like this. 

“As soon as you’re back upstairs, you’ll be alright. This is probably.. The first time we’ve said goodbye where I won’t be worrying the whole flight back,” Jack chuckled softly, his hands resting against Lena’s waist.

“I would prefer if we didn’t have to say goodbye at all,” Lena almost pouted, fighting away the tears that stung at her eyes. Jack smiled softly, moving to wipe away at the tear that finally spilled over to run down her cheek.

“I love you,” Lena sighed, pushing her cheek into his hand.

“I love you too, Lee,”

They kissed slowly, savoring the last moments they would have together.

Lena felt hollow having to watch the black vehicle pull away from the curb and out of sight behind buildings. The heartbreak never got easier, but she put on a brave face. She had something - someone, to come home to now. A reason she should be smiling when all she wanted to do was cry.

“Kara?” Lena called out, unlocking the front door to her apartment to make her way inside, purse and to-go box in hand. “I’m back,”

“What do you think? Yeah I think it needs more colours too,” Kara commented to her tiger, nodding as she looked back at her construction paper, she was working on her picture for Jess, deciding to make it nice and colourful and to do her best drawing the fancy drinks they had gotten the first time Jess had taken her on a coffee run.

Laying on her stomach on the living room floor Kara reached over to grab a new colour of pencil crayon, humming a little as she focused on colouring the page she beamed as the picture started coming together now that she had added that extra colour.

Instantly perking up as she heard the door unlocking Kara was beaming as she scrambled off the floor, quickly hurrying over to Lena to wrap her up in a gentle hug. “Hi,” she breathed happily in relief, happy to finally have her Lena back even though it truly wasn’t that long of time apart but Kara was always happier when Lena was here.

Though as she pulled back she noticed that Lena was alone, looking behind her she furrowed her brows. “Where’s Jack?” she asked curiously though as it settled in that Jack had already left Kara frowned a little as she glanced back at Lena, gently pulling her into another hug. “I’m sorry he couldn’t stay longer,” she whispered, gently kissing the side of Lena’s head, knowing it always made her feel better when Lena would do that to her.

“But! Now you can hang out with me! And I’ve been practicing my hugs just for you!” she chirped, gently taking Lena’s purse from her and putting it away before beaming as she noticed the box. “Did you bring foods?” she asked instantly perking up.

“Exactly,” Lena nodded, “There’s a lot of second movies. 101 Dalmatians, The Little Mermaid, Tarzan, The Fox and the Hound.. We will have to find them for you if you like the second Lion King,” 

For some reason, having Kara help her pick out an outfit made Lena feel a little more comfortable about leaving her at home. At least then, Kara had an active part in pushing her out of the door and away from her, which made Lena feel a little less guilty about it. 

“That’s perfect. You’re getting really good at picking clothes,” Lena praised, taking the dress and hanging it over her dresser and starting to undress herself. “You best give me a lot of those hugs when I get back from dinner.. and make sure you promise to call me on your cell phone if you need anything at all, okay? I’m not going to be far away,” 

At this point, Lena was absolutely positive she was more nervous about all of this than Kara was. After slipping on the dress and double checking that her hair and makeup was on point and appropriate with the outfit, she turned back to Kara with a soft smile.

“Okay… Okay, let’s go see if Jack is ready,” Lena smiled, moving over to the door and taking a quick peek out of it to make sure that Jack was dressed and decent before fully opening the door and inviting Kara out with her.

“Oh Lena, you look lovely,” Jack grinned appreciatively when the door of them walked out of the bedroom. He was already waiting by the door, dressed in a nice fitting relaxed suit. Handsome as ever.

“Thank you. Kara picked it out, especially for you,” Lena complimented, moving to locate her purse.

“Why thank you, Miss Kara,”

“Is there anything else you need before we go?” Lena turned to the little Kryptonian, throwing her purse strap over her shoulder and going in to give Kara a lingering hug goodbye.. Even if that goodbye was only for a few hours.

“Oh thanks! I just like my clothes cause they are comfy,” Kara replied with a giggle, brushing her fingers over her outfit. “I will, I’ll keep my phone with me!” she promised, sitting on the bed and watching Lena adoringly Kara had to admit there was something calming about watching Lena do her make up and hair and she figured it also helped from the mornings she’d watch Lena get ready for work on the days she’d get to stay with Alex.

Grabbing her tiger Kara hopped off the bed, following Lena she beamed at the praise from Jack and Lena. “Lena makes anything look beautiful though,” she commented with a shrug.

“Um..” thinking for a moment Kara tried her hardest to really think about anything she might want while Lena was gone. Giggling a little at the hug Kara eagerly returned it, hugging Lena tightly and gently kissing her cheek. “I love you,” she whispered before gently pulling away. Glancing around she perked up. “Oh! Um...can I use the knives to make a snack?”

While she knew from the DEO and the amount of times she had fallen down or smacked her head on something Kara knew she couldn’t get hurt but the kitchen still made her a little nervous.

Before Lena could respond to the question Jack nodded. “I got it Lee,” he commented, giving Lena’s side a gentle squeeze before moving into the kitchen smiling as Kara skipped in after him.

“What were you thinking Kara?”

“Um...cheese and crackers please,” Kara replied, rocking shyly on her heels as she moved to grab the crackers and cheese for Jack before handing them over to him. 

“Sounds good, tell me when there’s enough pieces cut,” he commented as he grabbed a knife and started slicing off pieces of cheese.

Once he had half the block cut Jack glanced over at Kara, thinking she had gotten distracted but she was still watching him intently. “Should...I just cut the whole thing?” he asked chuckling a little.

“Yes please,” she chirped as she skipped into the living room, carefully setting up her movie and beaming when she had it all done right. Making sure to set her phone on the coffee table she was instantly beaming as Jack brought over her plate of snacks. “Thank you,” she said happily, climbing on to the couch and setting her tiger next to her.

“Your welcome sweetheart,” Jack replied, leaning down to press a kiss to the top of Kara’s head.

Heading back to the door he placed his hand on Lena’s back, giving her a comforting smile and leading her out the door knowing that she was a bundle of nerves.

If Kara was being honest she truly didn’t want Lena to leave her alone, but she knew at the same time that Lena deserved to have some time with Jack without her. And if it meant she had to be brave for a few hours then she could do that, after all she was sort of by herself when Lena would be working in her home office and she’d be out here, so it was just like that!

Once she had finished the movie which she really did love Kara let it start playing again as she grabbed her colouring supplies to work on a picture for Jess and also for Lena. Glancing at her phone every once in awhile she’d take a few deep breaths before telling herself no.

“We can do this, we’re here together! And Lena should have a happy night and who knows! Maybe if we’re good she’ll bring us back dessert!” she commented to her tiger, giving them a nod and a tight hug before focusing back on her colouring.
