There is a lot of theory on why Tigress and Po are made for each other. One of them is because they are a complete opposite in character yet often times their strength/weaknesses complete each other in battle and daily life. They also share some similarities that make them understand each other better than anyone.
Here is some interesting differences and similarities.
1. Tigress is slender, elegant, fast and precise - Po is fat, sloppy, slow and clumsy.
2. Tigress is stoic, cold and hot tempered - Po is warm, friendly and patient.
3. Tigress doesn’t trust stranger easily, and get suspicious over things - Po always try to see good in people, even giving chance for his enemy to repent (remember conversation with Tai Lung and Shen at the last battle?). Tigress can come across to be unwelcoming to new friends, while Po embrace anyone without judgment.
4. Tigress is quiet and serious while Po loves to talk and joke a lot.
5. Tigress’s hobby must be to train or meditate, while Po loves to eat and be around friends.
6. Tigress is cunning and smart (which probably taught by Shifu) while Po is naive and often too innocent.
7. Tigress is mature and responsible - Po sometimes can be juvenile and childish (not selfish though, more like….have a mind of a child), and forgot about rules (such as waking up before the gong!)
8. Tigress judge situation with her head - Po judge situation with his heart.
9. Tigress’s kung fu is a picture of perseverance and discipline over a long time - Po is picture of passion and prodigy. You can see that Tigress can win a spar against Po, but Po can beat villain like Tai Lung, Shen and Kai who can not be defeated even by the Furious five combined.
10. Tigress is adopted by Kung fu master, lived a privileged life and destined to be a Master - Po is adopted by noodle shop owner, living a simple life however destined to greatness.
11. Tigress’s father is a red panda with perfectionist personality - Po’s father is a goose with melancholic personality.
12. Tigress like being independent and capable of doing things herself - Po is a creature craving companionship and affection.
13. Tigress like to ponder and think before deciding anything - Po is abrupt and spontaneous.
14. Tigress is a hardcore girl - Po is a gentle man.
15. A lot of people said Tigress is yin, and Po is yang.
16. Tigress doesn’t seem to be able to cook, while Po is an excellent chef.
17. Tigress’s favourite food seems to be fry Tofu, while Po seems to be able to enjoy just about anything.
18. Tigress’s body build for speed and agility, while Po’s body are plush and cuddly (according to the wolf boss!)
19. Tigress doesn’t forgive people (even herself) easily, while Po is very forgiving to anyone.
20. Tigress is driven by purpose (the end result), while Po is driven by fun (the process). Although as the film progressed, Tigress start to join pointless, purposeless, fun antics that Po does e.g try to fit 40 bean buns in the training hall. May be someday she’ll join Po doing the rolling down the hill thingy.
1. Both Tigress and Po are adopted, both understood the implication of being an orphan. That’s why in the “secret of furious five” Po shed a tear after retelling the story of Tigress because he can feel her pain.
2. Both Tigress and Po had troubled past. Tigress was having a hard time in Bao Gu orphanage, later on adopted by Shifu who rarely shown her a fatherly love she craved upon. Po had learn that his parents both murdered brutally by Lord Shen to undo his foretold defeat by warrior of black and white.
3. Both of them are Kung Fu Master and passionate about it.
4. Both understand how it feels to be rejected. Tigress was rejected and called a monster at Bao Gu. Po was rejected when he first joined as the Dragon warrior and the five even Shifu doesn’t acknowledge him.
5. Both work hard to earn the trust and love. Tigress work hard to make Shifu proud and Po work heard to prove himself to his comrades and Shifu, albeit Tigress is the one he try to impress the most.
6. Both Tigress and Po are extremely loyal, to the country, to their comrades, to their Master and to each other.
7. Both like to confront their emotional ordeal at the Sacred Peach Tree of Heavenly wisdom.
8. Both of them good with kids in their own way.
9. Both loves their father dearly.
10. Both Tigress and Po fulfil each other destiny. At first Tigress is the one who ignite Po’s love for Kung fu, while Po unknowingly pick the member of furious five when his scroll getting mixed up with Shifu’s. Later on….Po is to become Dragon Warrior and Tigress to be his purpose. In both KFP 2 and KFP 3, the critical moment before the last battle - Po was shown looking at Tigress intensely. In KFP2 he was holding her paw as he came to realise how Shen wanted to hurt the one he hold dear. In KFP3 he was looking at Tigress and Lei Lei after his Wuxhi fingerhold failed to take Kai to spirit world.
