Israel isn't just breaking international law. It's creating precedent and changing it to make this violence permissible. What happens to Palestinians matters for everyone, everywhere. It sets a precedent that means no where else in the globe is safe. What more do we need to act?
– Noura Erakat
I actually truly had no idea that Refaat Alareer was killed until I saw the post I reblogged and I sincerely cannot stop crying, and maybe at some point I’ll be able to articulate why it hit me as hard as it did, but this isn’t about that right now.
I want you to read this poem that he shared on his Twitter account on November 1st, 2023:
May his memory bring us hope and push us forward to keep fighting for the people Falasteen, to keep fighting for Gaza, to do everything we can to for the liberation of Palestine.
May Allah elevate him and grant him the highest level of Jannah, inshAllah.
let the world never forget that it’s AMERICAN weapons being used to wipe out Gaza. that it’s AMERICAN tax money funding this genocide while the AMERICAN president and AMERICAN leaders support this mass murder of innocent people. let the world never forget America has Palestinian blood on its hands
i don't think people understand what it means for israel to not only be categorically continuing its incursion into the south of gaza but to be openly carpet bombing the safe zones it has told gaza residents to flee to while the whole world watches. this is a level of systemic extermination and impunity the likes of which i have never seen before. there have been so many war crimes already committed and so many laws already violated that i genuinely do not know how the world can recover or where it goes from here. israel is killing the so-called rules-based world order. it cannot possibly be louder or clearer than this.
"... a stark reminder that genocide is about more than just the premeditated mass extinguishing o human life; it's also about the calculated, and often vindictive, destruction of a people's culture, language, history, and shared sites of community." [source: Gabrielle Bates on X, formerly known as Twitter. 11/27/23.] Original post they are responding to on Literary Hub: "Gaza's main public library has been destroyed."
Authorities in Gaza City have condemned what they say was the deliberate destruction of the city’s main public library by Israeli forces aft
Here's the full article for those interested. I highly recommend the whole thing, and all of the work LitHub has published on Palestine. They're one of the big literary orgs (along with Electric Lit, Kundiman, Mizna, and Academy of American Poets, to name a few) that has truly stepped up to center issues and writers based in Palestine.
In the actual world outside of high-level American political rhetoric, Israel could have had peace at many times in the past 75 years. However, such a peace would have required Israel giving up most of the Palestinian land — specifically, Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem — it conquered in the Six-Day War in 1967. Israel has always preferred conflict with stateless Palestinians to that. Amos Malka, one-time head of Israeli military intelligence, explained it straightforwardly in 2004. “It is possible to reach an agreement,” he said, “under the following conditions: a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital and sovereignty on the Temple Mount; 97 percent of the West Bank plus exchanges of territory in the ratio of 1:1 with respect to the remaining territory; some kind of formula that includes the acknowledgement of Israel’s responsibility for the refugee problem and a willingness to accept 20,000-30,000 refugees.” In polite circles of U.S. power, these facts are considered preposterous. Anyone describing them exiles themselves from serious discussion of the issue. It’s similar to the situation before the invasion of Iraq, when there was uniform agreement across the political spectrum that Iraq possessed so-called weapons of mass destruction. Any claims to the contrary were seen as self-evidently ludicrous, as ludicrous as now saying that Israel is a huge obstacle to peace.
All the Times Israel Has Rejected Peace With Palestinians
to any poets and writers on here: the poetry foundation pulled a review of an anti-Zionist poetry collection because they didn’t wanna “take sides” so writers are calling the poetry foundation and the editors of poetry (magazine) to take an anti zionist stance and support the academic and cultural boycott of israel in a petition linked here. the link to sign is at the top of the document.
I love how when a woman posts heavy squats with good form men will be shitting all over her in the comments, nitpicking every little thing but when a man posts a heavy squat with god awful form it's all LETS GOOOO!! BEAST MODE!!! FIRE WORK MY MANNN like genuinely they walk around this blind to their own stupidity as if it's a fulltime job
The last paradox is that the tale of Palestine from the beginning until today is a simple story of colonialism and dispossession, yet the world treats it as a multifaceted and complex story—hard to understand and even harder to solve. Indeed, the story of Palestine has been told before: European settlers coming to a foreign land, settling there, and either committing genocide against or expelling the indigenous people. The Zionists have not invented anything new in this respect.
Noam Chomsky, from On Palestine, March 23, 2015
But Israel succeeded nonetheless, with the help of its allies everywhere, in building a multilayered explanation that is so complex that only Israel can understand it. Any interference from the outside world is immediately castigated as naive at best or anti-Semitic at worst.
— Noam Chomsky, On Palestine
decolonizepalestine.com is an easy to navigate website run by two palestinians which breaks down common myths about palestine and provides a reading list organized by a wide variety of categories ranging from history and culture to media and censorship. it’s a good starting point to use if you want to learn more about the modern day situation in palestine and understand the truth behind myths that have been perpetuated about israel’s occupation of palestine.

Anera is one of the few orgs able to work directly in Gaza, delivering food, blood, and medical supplies, in addition to their regular activities in economic and agricultural sustainability and sovereignty. I’ve worked with them before and highly recommend.
PCRF also works in Gaza, their HQ was bombed in a previous attack. They do good work, especially with kids.
