The Next Chapter
88 days. That’s the number of days until my college career is officially over. Today was the day that this started to actually sink in for me. I completed and turned in my senior portfolio website, and it was at that point that I finally began to realize how close I am to being out in the real world.
It felt like college was never going to end. it was like the light at the end of the tunnel was never going to come, but today I’m finally seeing that light. The term “better late than never” couldn’t be more true at this point seeing as I’m a few years passed the normal age of a college grad. However, I think in the long run this will benefit me. Lets face it, if I would have graduated at 22, I would not even come close to being mature enough for the real world. I actually feel like I’m ready at this point. I must admit that sometimes it makes me feel kind of ridiculous to be graduating with a four year degree at the age of 25. Yet, I see some of my younger classmates I will be graduating with, and they are stressing out about finding a job. These are students that hold a 3.5 GPA and up. Why is it that these students are so stressed about the next step, and I’m so oddly calm about graduating? These are students that are really good at what they do, but for some reason they still don’t feel prepared for life after graduation.
Each time I have a classmate come to me worried about finding a job, I just tell them not to worry that it will work itself out. I genuinely believe that. Sometimes things are just out of your control, and you can only do so much to put yourself in the right place at the right time. If you have done all you can do to give yourself the best possible opportunity, then there is no need to worry. It’s like we as a society have become so used to being in control that we freak out anytime we feel that we don’t have control over the outcome of a situation. Sometimes you just have to trust that the universe will work itself out, and it always does. You just gotta use the cards you’re dealt. As long as you have a positive outlook, and can find the good in each situation, then there is no need to worry. Everyday is an opportunity to learn something new, so don’t waste it.
As for me, I couldn’t be more excited to be closing the chapter that is my college career. Yes it is scary, and yes I am nervous for what the future holds, but I know that there’s always an opportunity. Surround yourself with people that not only push you to be better, but will be there to help you up when you fall. See you on the otherside!
