𝐅𝐎𝐑  𝐀𝐒  𝐋𝐎𝐍𝐆  𝐀𝐒  𝐘𝐎𝐔  𝐂𝐀𝐍  𝐑𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐌𝐁𝐄𝐑,  your  family  has  always  been  involved  with  unit  17.  the  espionage  unit  that  was  responsible  for  gathering  intel  on  many  countries  but  specifically,  for  north  korea.  from  the  moment  you  could  gurgle  your  first  words,  you'd  been  fascinated  by  unit  17.  your  father  only  fed  into  these  curiosities,  retelling  his  many  adventures  as  a  young  field  agent.  how  he'd  had  to  fight  against  twelve  men  at  once.  (  an  exaggeration  you'd  come  to  the  realization  of  as  you  aged.  )  how  he  could  reload  his  magazine  within  seconds,  one-handed.  he'd  been  careful  to  delineate  each  and  every  detail  for  you,  enticing  you  further  into  the  depths  of  the  spy  corporation.  but  it  was  the  gleam  of  passion  that  shone  in  your  father's  brown  hues  that  pulled  you  in.  an  adoration  for  a  career  that  you  desperately  craved.  from  that  day,  you  had  your  eyes  set  on  unit  17.

𝐁𝐄𝐈𝐍𝐆  𝐀  𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐂  𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐃𝐈𝐆𝐘  at  a  young  age  garnered  you  attention  that  you  relished  in.  fingers  skillfully  danced  across  white  keys,  head  leaning  into  the  rhythm.  when  you  weren't  on  the  grand  piano  in  the  foyer,  a  cello  rested  against  your  shoulder  seeking  haven  in  your  bow.  headlines  of  a  young  girl  playing  lotte  concert  hall  displayed  on  a  plethora  of  newspapers.  the  KWON  name  had  been  well  known  prior  but  even  more  so  now.  the  chief  in  command  of  unit  17  proved  pleased  with  your  talent  in  music,  even  more  so  with  your  grades.      "she  shows  great  promise,"      are  words  that  light  your  features  the  night  your  dad  invites  the  chief  over  for  dinner.  you  can  hardly  hear  the  snort  alana  gives,  just  as  interested  in  the  division  as  you.  there  was  only  so  much  room  for  legacy  applicants  anyway.  for  once,  you  are  not  the  sister  wearing  green.

𝐓𝐇𝐄  𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐋𝐎𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍  𝐈𝐒  𝐎𝐍𝐄  𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓  haunts  you  to  the  very  core.  it's  a  blur  of  movement  that  you  hardly  remember,  save  for  the  blinding  white  lights  that  encompass  your  vision  from  that  day  onwards.  you  hardly  process  your  sister's  untimely  death  as  you  pity  yourself  over  your  loss  of  sight.  was  it  evil  ...  was  it  truly  wicked  that  you  only  felt  relief  ?  a  competitor  knocked  down.  nothing  more.  you  try  not  to  worry  too  much,  appa  always  said  apathy  was  greatly  valued  in  field  agents.  you  think  nothing  of  how  your  disadvantage  (  words  adopted  from  the  doctor,  from  your  parents,  too  timid  to  say  the  actuality  of  the  situation  )  would  affect  your  career.  

𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑  𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐋𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍  𝐇𝐀𝐃  𝐁𝐄𝐄𝐍  𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐓  months  prior.  you  can  vividly  remember  the  frustration  festering  inside  isadora  with  each  frivolous  critique  that  rolled  off  your  tongue.  perfection  was  a  necessity  and  there  was  no  way  you  would  screw  this  up.  psychoanalyst.  it  wasn't  as  thrilling  as  that  of  a  field  agent  but  it  would  do.  there  had  to  be  a  kwon  in  unit  17.  a  tradition  that  you  wouldn't  let  die  with  alana.  there's  butterflies  in  your  stomach  that  could  rival  those  that  mack  once  produced.  but  these  were  worse.  it  summons  an  angrier  side  to  you.  one  that  has  you  snapping  at  isadora  with  the  littlest  of  questions  regarding  the  application.  despite  how  undeserving  you  are,  she  offers  patience.  it's  comforting  amid  the  anxiety  that  runs  down  your  spine.  the  night  you  send  it,  you  haul  isadora  to  the  bars  for  celebratory  drinks.

𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑  𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊,  𝐘𝐎𝐔  𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐎𝐖  𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐋𝐅  to  indulge  in  the  sins  of  reality.  despite  the  seriousness  of  the  situation  back  at  strathmore,  you  find  yourself  unbothered  so  long  as  those  you  care  for  are  unharmed.  so  long  as  you  are  unscathed.  each  night  is  a  different  experience  but  with  the  same  result.  your  blood  pumps  with  excess  alcohol  that  you're  sure  draws  worry  to  your  peers.  but  you  assure  them,  with  less  than  comforting  words,  that  they  needn't  worry  about  you.  that  you  didn't  need  their  worry.  (  accompanied  with  some  snarky  remark  about  how  you  didn't  need  them  either.  )  you  don't  offer  any  condolences  for  your  harsh  words  as  you  bring  the  bottle  back  up  to  your  lips.  the  alcohol  swallows  any  semblance  of  an  apology.

𝐓𝐇𝐄  𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒  𝐎𝐅  𝐍𝐄𝐖  𝐘𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐒  leave  you  puzzled,  dazed.  which  aren’t  normally  words  to  describe  you.  but  too  much  had  happened  that  night.  for  once,  you  don't  indulge  in  the  beverages  that  taunt  you.  you  board  the  plane  absentmindedly,  silence  taking  your  mouth  prisoner  as  the  others  boasted  about  their  time  in  chamonix.  you  dwell  on  the  lips  that  pressed  against  your  own.  dwell  on  the  mix  -  up  that  had  finally  been  resolved.  dwell  on  one's  revelation  for  their  feelings  towards  another.  legs  cross  over  one  another  as  a  ping  gathers  your  attention.  a  ping  that  you'd  been  hoping  to  hear.  a  ping  that  you  had  hallucinated  hearing  the  entire  trip.  headphones  placed  in  your  ears,  you  allow  siri  to  read  the  beginnings  of  an  email  you  had  been  anticipating.  

𝐓𝐇𝐄  𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐒  𝐀𝐑𝐄  𝐑𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐃  𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌  your  ears,  ceasing  siri's  voice.  you  didn't  need  to  torture  yourself  with  any  more.  dylan's  laughter  reminds  you  that  you  couldn't  break.  not  here.  not  in  front  of  others.  your  fingers  tap  impatiently  against  the  arm  rest  of  your  chair.  your  mind  racks  for  options  to  escape.  but  save  for  jumping  from  the  plane  or  throwing  the  rest  out,  you  come  up  with  none.  tears  prickled  at  the  corners  of  your  eyes  but  you  wouldn't  concede.  you  straighten  your  shoulders,  pressing  them  further  into  the  cushion  of  the  seat,  hoping  it  would  swallow  you  up.  aerin's  voice  from  the  many  weeks  prior  invades  your  mind.
