RP hosts of tumblr, what are your horror story’s?? 😭
I’ll start with mine.. though I’ll just be calling this person anon
for a while I’ve had a small rp series open to public. While a few VERY close friends of mine have their own story’s happening during the rp, I have a pretty decent story for all the other people wanting to hop on. Keep in mind, before people sign up I do tell them that they follow this adventure themed story along with the other people signing up. (Keep in mind the story’s are usually cool fantasy adventures.. while a lot of the story’s for a few select people are a lot more adventure horror themed. I do this because I trust these people with this sort of content, and have it scripted out with them.)
now.. usually everyone who joins for this adventure rp are usually pretty chill, love the series, and are all doing amazing in their group story. They never bother my friends who have their separate story’s, and everyone has a lot of fun following their special plots.. now, onto anon. From the beginning anon was ALWAYS a problem person. My first red flag being when during the sign ups, they tried to pressure me into allowing them to have extra characters despite it being against the rules. Which of course, I stood my ground and told them NO. But despite this, for the rest of this story thy would continue to push for more characters. Now a thing to note is that prior to the series and in the sign ups, I make sure people TELL ME what special powers their Ocs have in order to make sure their fights are balanced (for example with my close friends, I have some people who’s characters have NOTHING power wise, while others have a bunch of powers and special forms. Which is important because I do take this into account when writing things for them to keep their Ocs balanced with my antagonists and boss fights. One of my personal favourites I’m currently scripting is for my friends really strong character oleander, which has been a challenge to properly balance in my script. But it’s been so much fun writing for this and I LOVE having characters who can do all this cool powerful magic so I have to be really clever trying to think of ways to counter them. Anyways back to the story).
so going into the first few parts of the series everything seems fine.. until after a while anon starts using powers that they never listed onto their characters. At first I gave them a pass.. at least in the early parts of the series. At the powers they were using weren’t that overpowered (as you can assume this becomes an issue later). This goes on for a while, him bothering me to let him add more characters (they already had FOUR), still making up powers.. but yet for whatever reason I still allowed it to continue (keep in mind this was at the time my first ever time hosting a roleplaying series, I was new to this and anxious). Eventually I open extra slots and Ofc he decides to add a 5th character (oh my god). (During this a different anon guy decided to join but I kicked them out almost IMMEDIATELY because I found out of some.. disturbing things thy did with younger people. But alas that’s a story I won’t be discussing rn). So we get to the ending of my first series, and this is where I end up drawing a line at this part with the guy. So what happened in the story was that it was the final fight against this big evil guy named striker, and striker decided to use his powers to turn everyone into statues. But then these godly characters decided to sacrifice themselves to free everyone from the statues and make them powerful enough to defeat striker. Well, anon didn’t like this. And INSTEAD? They decided that this didn’t happen to their characters. And instead they WERE NEVER TURNED TO STATUES and decided to go flex on everyone else in the group about how they weren’t turned into statues. I immediately go into OOC chat and tell them to stop, they say they will, only to try again when they thought it wasn’t looking. I decided to refuse rp with this guy, until they eventually apologized and ACTUALLY stopped. Also during all of this, they STILL continued to try to push for 2 more characters to be added, but again I flat out refused.
now.. into my second series I hosted. Was I an idiot for this? Yeah. But I let them in AGAIN. And immediately they start causing problems. As I notice two things start to happen. This guys new characters start using powers that AGAIN were not told to me during the second series sign ups. And unlike the other powers they used before.. I noticed these powers seems to SPECIFICALLY be ones that target the bosses exact weaknesses. And the other thing I saw? I noticed them trying to get into other peoples rps despite being told NOT too. Immediately I start arguing with them and eventually I make them stop. For now. Time skip a bit and there’s a part of the story where some guys were turned evil and were using their powers to turn a few members of the groups characters into dark evil versions I controlled, and to get them back I made them fight their characters until the darkness left them.. well that is everyone BUT ANON! Who decided INSTEAD that their character who I decided to turn evil was NOT evil! And was only half evil but survived because ‘ohh they’re a volcano so they glow and don’t turn evil!!’ Which is something they NEVER said in their characters powers. They start spamming my comments making art and rping saying how their the only survivor. And yet again, decide to start trying to get into others rps without permission. This time however my members were NOT as chill about this, and were dming me asking me to make them stop and were even trying to make them stop themselves while they continued pushing. This was basically my last straw and I threatened to permanently ban them from joining my rps (I had enough) but this guy managed to sweet talk me into giving him another chance. The rest of the series goes by, they keep breaking rules, and by this point I decide fine. I’ll let them stay this SINGLE time. But next time? I’m kicking them. After this series is over I ended up co hosting a rp series with OLsgarden and Tanya4422 (amazing people check them out), and this series was only for the 3 of us and had a specially scripted story. But anon? Ohhh anon did NOT like this. And they end up harassing me MULTIPLE TIMES over this series trying to make me let them join. I outright refuse to, and did not back down on this (the other 2 were not very involved with this, but I know fully well they ALSO would not had wanted this guy in due time how personal and special this series was to us). And after a while he stops trying to make me add his characters into the series. Instead? He starts trying to pressure me into making a special series for ONLY him. I again refuse MULTIPLE times. This guy was driving me insane. And by the time we finished this series and I decided to make the next part to my series, I finally had enough of this guy. As he started pulling stuff prior to the damn seres even starting AND started posting a lot of really questionable artwork onto his profile I wasn’t comfortable seeing (it was like this weird tf sprunki stuff). (Same guy has also stolen my art now btw crine). And this time, instead of letting him in, I finally decide to permanently BLACKLIST them. Now, was there better ways I could had handled the situation? Totally. At the time I was very new to this, was young and didn’t now how to handle things like this with my players. I’m 17 now. I’ve learned a lot over the years, and now I’m a lot more strict with my players, and it’s improved the quality of life for them all in rp a lot! Going forward, the current series I’m hosting will probably be my last public slot one.. not that anyone here is bad, I would just prefer going forward to only host with players I know personally. With that I can script a lot more horror themed story’s with scary things I enjoy writing and drawing (notably psychological and body horror), and I’ll know these people are comfy and are having fun with it too! It’s taken a while to get to this point, my 5 players I’ll be having in my no public slot series I’m extremely happy to be working with.
I genuinely ADORE their characters and love writing for them! I think some of the stuff I have written for their future no public spot series are some of my best works I’ve ever made!! (For example the stuff I have written for oleander and another one named geo I’m EXTREMELY proud of.. and even if he’s not fully written right now, I’m very happy with the story I have so far for another character named Fushi. I genuinely think his story I have so far is another one of my best of all time.).
now.. what have I learned? As a rp host, I need to allow myself to be chill, but also strict with my players. It’s important everyone has fun yes, but it’s important they follow my rules, DON’T break peoples boundaries, and in general be respectful. And people like anon I shouldn’t be letting slide. If their a problem person, their a problem person. And for mine and my players sake, I need to kick them out. This sort of thing takes a long time to learn, I’ve been at this for 2 and a half years now. I’ve had many more horror storys with people joining from public slots of course, but going forward I’ve learned the right ways to handle these sorts of people. I’m really proud of not just myself, but my players too. ❤️
