On Cutting

When I see cutting on my dash I cannot fathom the personal pain and mental suffering these people go through, mostly girls from what I see on the cutting tag.

I have had someone in my life that was a cutter, when she slept next to me, I would often trace her scars and feel the ridges under my fingers, each one wrought with anguish. I would look at them under the morning light filtering through the window and feel pain within me knowing what she must have gone through to create every single one.

When I scroll down the tagged images, I see photo, after photo, after photo of cutting, some of the cuts are fresh, some are bandaged, while others are pink and healing. But all of them represent, to me, a failure of love. Someone, somewhere has failed to express their love with these people. Maybe it was a parent, maybe it was a sibling or someone at school with hate in their heart. My fear is that there are many people who have failed those who seek relief via cutting.

Their scars are our scars, a reflection of society’s failure to understand itself and how our wretched behavior does damage to those that so long suffer and go unnoticed.

I want to kiss all of them and make their scars and pain disappear.

But that’s just me.
