This post is a salute to my friends and family, and, of course, my readers in the U.S.A.! Freedom is something we often take for granted. So, I thank those veterans, living or dead, who fought for freedom from oppression (and as I have grown up in post-war West Germany, I mean that in a larger sense because I know what America has done for us). Still, America has a lot to do – and I have faith that you will manage it. Step by step. I like to quote former President Barack Obama: “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. Feist influenced me a lot. I started reading him in the early 90s. And read him over and over again (as you can see). Magician, featuring Pug and Arutha and, of course, later the infamous Jimmy the Hand. Feist’s depiction of the Valheru, the dragonlords, the (not so) dark elves in the north, the different cultures and the political intrigues brought me on my way. He is also the one who brought me on the idea of the dragon in naked human form, not understanding the ridiculous concepts of shame and prudery. Check it out. And I promise you; you’ll get hooked. I am happy - and exhausted, because it has been a tremendous task. Two years of my life …

Anyway, I am happy with the result. In a way the English version is now something like the director’s cut (I feel like George Lucas right now, if you get my meaning. And don’t worry, Han (Kyle) will always shoot first in my tales).

The panic in the nobleman’s voice caused nausea in Kyle. He despised the creature winding on the ground with every fibre of his existence.

“Think about it, my good man! She was just a­ little, lousy twat who spreads her crack for men like me every day. Every day! She was just a nothing.”

“A nothing?”

“Why? Indeed. The vermin of our society, man. You can’t kill a Prince for that!”

Kyle laughed coldly. “Oh, I’ve done some research, Frederick!”

Kyle’s voice grew softer now, and still, each word cut in the whimpering­ man’s ears­ like the blade of a sword. “Two months ago, you defiled one of your maids with fire and iron. One of the maids wanted to get married­ ...”

“So? The Right of the First Night! It’s every liege lord’s right!”

“Yes, the stories were all too familiar in Asaanfurth when you had your man Darrigan send the young girls to be ‘broken in’ by you. But our King abolishes serfdom. Apparently, he wants to stop what you’re doing, too!”

“Our King? Araweyn I?” DeBracy spit the name full of hatred. Then he realized what the shadow had said. “Asaanfurth? Darrigan?”

Kyle unfastened the mask and looked down at DeBracy steadfastly. The young Prince opened his mouth, stunned. “You’re the runaway Darrigan told me about. This ...” He searched in vain for the name of such an unimportant person from a filthy village.

“Kyle!”

In a city where the system is broken, Kyle is forced to ask himself if he is willing to break the law to deliver justice.

Why is the system in this world broken?

We have not only the dark forces of a hideous demon-cult threatening the Kingdom of Calhuh but also a dangerous fascist uprising – if you read closely what ideologies some factions pursue.

We all have our demons. I despise fascism and Nazis. Having grown up in post-war Germany of the 70s and 80s, I am very familiar with the atrocities of the Third Reich and see it as vital to fight against every form of an uprising of this cancer.

In my stories, I always address these topics because they are topics of our time as well. In the early 90s, I shot a movie about skinheads. I addressed this theme in the #videogame #Sacred, where we have the fascist Baron DeMordrey and in the first #FarCry novel. And, of course, I pursue this kind of written resistance against right in my Kyle saga.

Spoiler Alert: These pigs die ... most often bloody.
