A sun baked blast into the pinewoods yesterday from the home zone with @use_nineonesix Good to shift views of the mountains from our usual angles and get to the olde wood. Heavy pine forest enslavement slowed the single track descent into abernethy wid. Cooking giant ant mounds. Red flashes of startled crossbills from pine pollen marbled flash flooded puddles. Sun blasted pinewood smell. Exploring one of the gnarliest trails up #beachenwood way. I saw the suggestions of the exit of this on a wander recently. Some rock garden and drop off stuff and then a real steep boggy final exit. A cool bit of landscape, might have been a quarry once? Or just naturally cliffy. A tangible pineforestspiritualenslavement field under a massive old pine- a rare vintage veteran for Grantown. Obligatory holidays jump maintenance. Work focused on the start of the kicker which gradually lowers over the year as its boggy there and all the water runs down the starting ramp. Third time on it. Unfortunately i chose a bad window in the weather and its rained every day since, so there will be a trench in the middle from the keen wet weather jumpers. I also used alot of the mud deposited at from the run off first instead of putting in larger stones and gravel first. This wouldnt be too bad if the sun had come out for a few days and baked it. But it didnt so ive been back packing big stones and gravel in from the top. Sorry to all those halved worms. Some lip work was needed and also added a small drop off jump into the entry ramp- it had a drop off once i hear? The speed is pretty nuts of that and could make the lip more aggressive for higher air on first ramp. Artefacts from last nights ride. Discussions were acute and specific on paths and locations through the woods, how some places looked like other places, where a bench was in relation to various locations, what paths led where, and where we were on the path. The hollow tree was a destination (first shot). A wrong trail was taken (my error). On the last section (Jim's) my drive chain was so TWIGGED that i lost them, i lost the trail, i was for a few moments a lost creature depending on a battery to see in a deep dark pinewood wandering in search of something. The others. A way out. Trees were down. No wet feet. First time PUMPING at Boat's new and incredible pump track. Its already a busy centre for the young and old. Im back on the smaller wheels and my fat 2.6 front and 2.4 rear must be a bit draggy for it but perhaps good to do it on smaller wheels? Still not completed a gap or a drop in the bowl/berm which seemed daunting, maybe next time. A few months ago I returned to an area in the Rothiemurchus pine wood which inspired my work 'Forest Magick'. It was great to again gaze into the bark of this old granny pine and consider it's stillness and old, grounded Scots Pine presence. #scotspine #druid
