The town of Tolland, Colorado around sunset. The Tolland and Zarlengo families have owned the land in the valley West of Rollinsville for generations now. They disputed over gate entrances and cattle for years, only recently coming to terms with their reliance on one another. It's funny how humans are naturally drawn to the camera. If the camera is a Leica, I notice an increase in draw. This weekend a few buddies and myself were able to spend some time near Rollinsville, Colorado (we found out about the #nedfire because the Slurry Jets were looping over our heads to put out it out.) I brought a Leica M9, Leica M2 and Olympus stylus Epic for whatever adventures we got into. As you can see, @llemons230 picked up the M9. @solodolodan picked up the M2 and the Stylus Epic became the squad documentary camera. What this forced was education. I had to teach everyone [who wanted to use a Leica] the basics behind Aperture, Shutter speed, ISO, and Rangefinder focus. Not to mention, the basics of light and recognizing good light or isolating a subject in difficult light. Luckily for us, the Leica M is the perfect camera to learn on - like a gun, the all mechanical controls allow you to make a physical connection to the components of photography, not just a digital display. The couple days into the mountains became a photo workshop excursion based around our off-roading and alpine hammocking. Now I get to sit back on my computer and see everyone's perspectives through my camera. I love my friends. I love my Leicas. When I am able to mix the two harmoniously, it feels amazing. I think my dream is to open a photography school based around the Leica M. I'll make it happen. Have a great week, everyone. A disaster relief CH-47 Chinook fills it's water transport in Barker Reservoir near Nederland, Colorado. Last night we watched as the Hot Shot firefighters diffused flames on a hillside just East of Nederland. This morning, on my way out of town, I saw the chaos of Helicopters and Slurry planes scattering the sky to put out a billowing cloud of smoke rising from the valley nearby. I'll be including two more photos in this visual story.
