“I thought I’d be used to it by now.” Mei had always preferred the heat; as a kid she figured it was just a matter of where she grew up, though now she wonders if it’s more to do with her powers. 

“Yeah, I was hoping that too. I’m from somewhere where it’s warm all the time so this is hard to adjust to. I wonder if we ever will.” Kyle chuckles a bit, but he misses California more now that he was thinking about it.

“This is… cute.” Mei wanders through the market, feeling a little out of place. Cute, after all, wasn’t exactly her forte. She adjusts her sunglasses and lights a fire in her hands with a snap of her fingers, holding it close to keep herself warm. “God, it’s freezing out.”

“Yeah, I’m not really used to this whole WINTER thing.” Kyle had lived in California his entire life so this was such a major adjustment for him. “God, I miss warm weather.”

“That’s an amazing idea. What do you want to get her? I think we should find a few things, she’d love that.” Adrianne asks quickly, shooting questions at her father in quick succession. She can’t help it - she’s excited, the market seems like so much fun and she wants to see everything. “Hey - is Guy coming with us for Chrismtas?” She asks with a grin, turning to her father and raising an eyebrow.

“I haven’t figured it out yet. I’ll know it when I see it, you know?” Kyle says with a smile as he looks away from the objects he had been holding. There was a lot going on, and he was just glad to spend this time with her. “I was thinking about inviting him. I know that she wants to meet him, now that we’re TOGETHER. What do you think?”

“You know this would be a great place to find some gifts to get your grandmother. She really digs all this homemade stuff.” Kyle says as he looks at some of the different booths, checking out what everyone had to offer before he looks over at his daughter to see what she felt about the idea. He can’t help but smile at the expression on Kyle’s face, all excitement and joy that lights up the whole room and Guy loves it. He always has, really - Kyle just has something about him that brings him such a warm, bright feeling, something Guy doesn’t find too often. “Aw c’mon, even if you weren’t stuck dealin’ with me you wouldn’t die alone. Y’still got Adri, after all.” He says with a chuckle as he loops his arm around the other’s waist and pulls him in closer. “Hey, m’happy to meet her. I’ve always thought she sounds like an incredible woman, dealin’ with you for so long.” He chuckles and kisses the side of Kyle’s head gently.

Kyle knows that it was a big deal to bring Guy home with him, but he knows that his mother really wants to meet him after all these years. He can’t blame her since she has been listening to him talk about Guy for so long, even before they got together. “I know, I’m glad for that. I’m surrounded by so many amazing people. Adri has grown into an amazing woman, I’m proud of her.” He smiles softly as he’s pulled closer. “It’s settled then, next time you can join us. Hey! You say that like I’m a trouble maker.”

“that’s lovely,” she says, a genuine smile on her face before she listens to his next answer. She writes furiously as he speaks, “alright, one final follow-up to that,” she looks back up at him, “it’s no secret Paragon’s home to plenty of heroes and vigilantes. do they make you feel safe, personally?”

“Yeah? I think so.” Kyle nods before getting back to the serious part of the conversation.  He should have expected that question. “I always feel protected when it comes to being surrounded by heroes or vigilantes. While they can attract danger, they can also help take care of it so we’re protected from the threats. They aren’t perfect though, no one is.”

cfguygardner‌:

“Oh yeah?” Guy call from the kitchen with a grin. Family dinner sounds interesting, and of course Guy wants to meet the man’s mother now that they’re actually together, but the last thing he wanted to do was impose on something he knows Kyle and Adrianne do with Kyle’s mother so regularly. Better to wait until Kyle’s ready for that, as far as Guy’s concerned. He turns the stove off, satisfied that their dinner is just about done, and takes two beers out of the fridge. “Y’told her about me already, huh? Must mean m’doin’ pretty good so far.” He chuckles and steps over to the couch, handing one of the beers to Kyle before settling down beside him. “What’d you say?”

“Yeah!” Kyle replies as he stretches a bit as he gets comfortable. He’s patient so he can wait for Guy to come out from the kitchen. He can’t help the bright grin that was spread over his features seeing him though. “There you are, but yeah! I did, and she’s all for it. I think she’s just happy that I’m dating again. She was worried I’d end up alone or something.” He laughs softly, opening the beer to take a sip of it. Kyle takes a deep breath, still smiling however. “I told her that I think it’s a great idea.”

“i’m so excited for christmas.” dot signed brightly, grinning across at kyle. she loved christmas, and as soon as she’d gotten comfortable within the family and learned about certain holidays, it had become her favourite immediately.  she got so enthusiastic that it was infectious. “i saw the cutest biscuit cutouts today. they were little snowflakes. i’m going to get gingerbread right this year and make them, i swear.” [ @kylerynr ]

“Me too.” Kyle signs back to Dot, a smile spreading over is face as he does so. He loves the holiday season, especially Christmas. His family was small of course, only his daughter and mother, but he loves every part of it. “Gingerbread snowflakes would be amazing. I’ll even help you decorate if you want some help. I’m good at that part.”

“My mom is already asking when I’m bringing you along for family dinner, you know.” Kyle says as he pulls his jacket off of his body. He hangs it up, and moves across the room to plop down on the man’s sofa. He spends a lot of time here, and doesn’t really mind it. He likes being around Guy. [ @cfguygardner ]

“I’m pretty sure if anyone was going to spark doom on Guy it’d be himself. He seems to be good at that.” Adrianne says with a soft chuckle, though she knows why he’s felt that way. She knows why he’s avoided romance and relationships since his mother, but she’s glad he’s taking a chance on this. She wants him to be happy. “C’mon, this is about you not about me.”

“Ha! You’re right about that, but hopefully that doesn’t actually happen. We’ve all had enough doom filled experiences for a lifetime I feel like.” Kyle says softly, glad that this had all gone well. It could have gone much worse, he knows that. “Look at us getting completely sidetracked from training.”

“You’re also a little silly. I know you’ve been avoiding things like this since mom.” Her smile fades a little as she practically chastises her father, but after all this time he and Guy have wasted it’s about time Kyle was told how silly he’s been. Mostly so he doesn’t mess up this chance at happiness. “I’m really happy for you, you know. You deserve this, dad.”

“I really have. I used to think I was cursed, that everyone who dated me sparked some sort of doom.” Kyle knew that sounds ridiculous, but with his awful history when it comes to dating do you blame him? It’s like bad things just start happening soon as he finds love. “Thank you, honey. I'm lucky to have you.”

Adrianne knows what her father has been protecting himself from, what he’s been doing. She understands - she never wants anyone to hurt him again the way her mother did. But.. she also wants Kyle to be happy, he deserves to be happy, and she knows Guy can give him that. “It will be, papa. I know it will be. I’ve seen the way he looks at you. You guys are just terrible at timing, but that doesn’t matter now.”

“Yeah, we are terrible at timing, but there was always something in the way I suppose.” Kyle pushes his fingers through his hair, wishing that they had noticed it all sooner. Everything happens for a reason though don’t it? They can all be happy together, like a family right? It was a nice thought, but he doesn’t want to jump too ahead. It was hard not to though.

“I guess we did. Not just wars - other stuff, things just.. didn’t line up, huh.” He says with a soft chuckle, raising a hand to brush Kyle’s hair back gently. It seems kinda silly now, that they let things get in the way, but he’s not really one for looking back and regretting. Right now, Guy’s here and no where else, and all that matters is Kyle. “Y’bet your life we’re gonna make up for it.”

“Yeah, I guess not. We got there in the end though didn’t we?” Kyle’s life had always been wild, and full of noise. He always had plenty on his plate to work through, some of it couldn’t be helped. Like the time spent with the Omega Men, and fighting a war for almost a year. It was a lot, but now there wasn’t anything like that between them. “Where should we start?”

Guy doesn’t try to stop the other when he moves, letting Kyle settle in his lap and resting his hands on the man’s hips as he looks up at him, a wide smile on his face. “What took us so long, huh?” He asks with a soft chuckle before leaning up to kiss him again, a little deeper this time, arms moving to wrap around Kyle nice and snug, keeping him close.

“I don't know, we always had something interrupting us didn’t we? There was always a new war to be fought, but we have time now. We have time for us.” Kyle suggests before their lips meet for another kiss. He stays so close to Guy, leaning in closer. “We can make up for all that time now though.”

Adrianne knows her father has always been careful with this, considering his history. It’s not like he’s had great luck - he might not talk much about it, but she knows about what happened with Alex - and then considering what her mother had done.. it never surprised her that he didn’t really pursue anything, but.. she wants him to be happy. And he is happy with Guy, so this all seems perfect. “Of course I am. He’s loved you for a long time, dad. It’s about time you guys figured out what this is.” She smiles and shakes her head. “What does getting there actually mean?”

For the longest time, Kyle was convinced that he didn’t need to be with someone like that again. He had Adrianne, and she was well taken care of so that was always enough. It wasn’t until he started to get real feelings for Guy that it changed. He’s almost embarrassed by how long it took him to figure it out. “I don’t know we have a lot of time to catch up on I think, but it’ll be worth it.”

It’s not that Adrianne’s not excited for her father - of course she is, she wants him to be happy more than almost anything. It’s just so silly to her that it’s taken them so long to figure this out when just about everyone can see they love each other. “Of course I’m okay with it, papa. I’m happy for you.” She says with a smile, stepping over to give him a quick hug. “You really did, Maggie and I were beginning to think you’d never get there.”

Kyle had always been hesitant about dating, since Alex was murdered, and then what happened with Soranik. He didn’t think that he deserved to be with anyone else, but Guy changed that feeling. He wanted to do it right, make sure that being with him wouldn’t somehow doom Guy. It was foolish now thinking about it. “Thank you, I'm glad you’re happy for us.” He hugs her back though. “We were getting there, imagine that?”
