just wanted to say this is how i feel about your writing!! it’s crazy to me that you’re just out here writing some of my favourite fics of all time for free!! i just finished reading let the roots grow in and despite the fact that i’ve read it several times already it still had me giggling the whole way through. also mutual pining (especially when theyre idiots about it) is literally my favourite thing to read in fics and you do it so well it always makes me feel a little insane in like the best way
omg this is so sweet i'll cry!!!! thank you so much angel, I love that fic so much and I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed writing it <3
Hey, how did you get into writing and found your style? I really like your style and find it quite unique...
hi! thanks so much for asking <3
I've loved writing since I was 12 or so, but once I started high school I fell out of it until Nov. 2022 (when I posted my first fic on ao3!). If you go back and look at this fic (which I have a love/hate relationship with) you can see how different my writing style was -- it was underdeveloped and fairly average, though I loved writing it so much that I kept going anyway.
Around this time, I discovered a lot of fic writers (many of who I'm very lucky to call my friends now) whose writing I admired. I think my writing style developed as I wrote more, but also as I read more. I think in many cases, reading works that inspire you can be just as essential as actual writing itself.
As you read, you tend to soak up words and phrases and themes without even realizing you're doing it. Reading a bunch of fics that inspired me (at the time I soaked up so much from so, my darling, aka hinge au) is what really helped develop my style. Towards the end of my first fic, you'll see me start to come into my own style. I think around chapter 14 or 15, you can see a major difference in terms of my writing ability in comparison to the first few chapters. It wasn't until I started Cherry Flavoured that I really fell in love with more lyrical, poetic writing and metaphors, though.
I also read poetry (Mary Oliver and Sylvia Plath are my favorites) which inspires me a lot, too. Additionally, I think my writing encapsulates pieces of me and life experiences that make it feel like my own (which is something most writers would say too).
TLDR; read as many things as you can and highlight the sentences that make you feel something or words that sound nice when you speak them out loud. Soak up the things you like about others' writing and take bits and pieces of it and make it your own. <3
hihi I’m the person who recommended u do the practice kissing trope a while ago and omg you never fail to write so beautifully. I honestly think my essays are improving because of you not even exaggerating i hope you have an amazing rest of your day <33
this makes me so happy!!! i'm glad that your essays have been improving and I also hope you get a break from them hehe
The Secret History by Donna Tartt
the fact that i'm no longer the same age as the protagonists of novels and films i once connected to is so heartbreaking. there was a time when I looked forward to turning their age. i did. and i also outgrew them. i continue to age, but they don't; never will. the immortality of fiction is beautiful, but cruel.
