Maddie Bishop episode 2.04: Face + Hair + ARMS + Outfit appreciation

Lacey couldn’t help but roll her eyes at the other’s response, turning around to look at her with a fake smile on her lips. “Weird, considering I literally just said that I wasn’t breaking in. Usually, that makes people believe it more.” She dropped her hands in her lap and sighed. “I forgot my keys and I don’t wanna pay a bunch of money for a locksmith. Not to mention that my landlord probably wouldn’t be happy about it and he doesn’t like me much anyway.” Lacey skipped the part that would have told the other it was her own fault she didn’t really get along with him but figured it wasn’t any of her business anyway.
The redhead’s expression didn’t bother her -- it was something she’d gotten used to when living with her step-mother and sisters. What bothered Raven was the expectant comment, like it was common to just believe strangers. “ You realize that it does the complete opposite, right? Like how usually when someone says ‘ it’s not what it looks like’ it’s actually exactly what it looks like and they’re just stalling to catch you off guard or buy time to make up an excuse. I mean I could just as easily say I’m a unicorn as easy as you said you weren’t breaking in-- that’s the amazing thing about lying.” Raven smirked, blowing more than a few holes in the girl’s logic of taking strangers at face value. Still,t he redhead better explained herself, which was far more pleasurable, and Raven had to bite back questioning why she didn’t just say that in the first place since it technically wasn’t her business.” You should try a credit card.” She stated with confidence.” Jam it right by the middle and it slides right open. You mind?” Raven asked, but was already on her way over with an old library car in hand. She’d had enough experience trying to get back into her room when her sisters had maliciously locked her out and she didn’t want to bother asking for help yet again. With a few shakes and a little force, Raven stuck the card by the lock and pushed it between it and the door, pushing it back and getting the door open with a gentle shove. “There. Opened.”

The free seat appearing was a sign of relief for El and she gave a smile to the face that had made it apparent. With the black coffee steaming in it’s cup, Elliott wandered to the table and sat down opposite the other woman. “Thanks, it got crazy in here.” she spoke, placing the coffee cup down and swiping open her phone. “Looks like we’re both not about that iced coffee life either.” El beamed taking note of the hot coffee they both were enjoying. Idle conversation while boring to Elliott seemed fitting considering the other woman’s kind gesture.
With a nod, Raven had to mentally prepare herself for conversation. It wasn’t that she was awkward of an introvert, but all the years of keeping to herself because of force became a means to survive. Her mission to not let anybody get too close became a bad habit of thinking that even a casual conversation would ruin that. Still, the woman seemed determined to break the ice, which Raven wasn’t mad at, just ever so slightly frustrated by. “ Some things were meant to be hot.” She said with a single shoulder shrug. “ I wouldn’t want hot ice cream, so I don’t see the point in having cold coffee.” Her logic made no sense, but it was all she had to offer as a reason.
With a sigh, she set her coffee down and picked her phone up, in the habit of running around so much that she always noted the time to avoid being late, even on her off days. “ It’s not usually this crowded around this time.” She said aloud, not necessarily to the woman across from her, but making it aware to anyone who might have been listening in. Setting it back down, she then turned to the woman to actually address her. “ Is there something going on out there that has everyone hiding in here?”
The more it heated up the more Raven longed for the cold. She loved the bitter chill in the air and getting to bundle up in sweaters and overall aesthetic of Fall and Winter. Her favorite thing, however, was that the cold weather made drinking nice hot coffee perfect, not like now where her beverage had her threatening to sweat. Still, she was too stubborn to tolerate iced coffee, so she sat in the coffee shop ready to die with pride for her coffee. It was pretty crowded given the time of day, and though Raven wasn’t exactly known for her overall friendliness, when someone held their drink and looked around for a free spot, Raven found herself kicking the chair across from her out from under the table with her foot as a non-verbal ‘ you can sit here’.

There were very few things that annoyed Lacey more than locking herself out of her apartment. It was even worse when it was already dark outside and any attempt to get back inside by helping herself to it was going to look like she was breaking into the place because how in hell would anyone explain that? It was too bad that she currently found herself in that exact situation: kneeling in front of her door while trying to unlock the door with bobby pins. She was in the middle of her attempt when she heard someone come up behind her. Without turning around, she explained, “Listen, I know what this looks like but I swear I’m not trying to break in.”
Everything could be solved by a workout. As she returned from a run -- and it was a great run -- She treated herself to a healthy smoothie to keep feeling good about herself and a healthy (albeit pricey) dinner so she didn’t have to cook. She would blame the endorphins for being frivolous later, but in that moment wanted to ride them out. As she headed to her place, she couldn’t help but notice the redhead scrambling with the door. Admittedly, it was ...questionable, but while Raven knew anyone could be a criminal, she had a feeling that even a tiny redhead thief would scramble and run if they got caught, which this woman didn’t. Still, Raven was planning to pass by with her head down, much like she did in life until the woman caught her attention fully. She paused, a nervous sort of smile gracing her face as if she didn't know whether to laugh or call the cops. “ Um, well I didn’t think that....till now.”
sidjcmes:
“I really hope you’re heading somewhere important,” Sid asked the passerby from her cozy mound of sand overlooking the beach; steps from home but she felt immersed in the outdoors. There were some evenings that required a setup, a sculpted sand ‘couch’, a crate of beer and a fresh pouch of tobacco. As much as she enjoyed fast-paced traveling and bouncing around from state to state she had no issue offering moments to stillness. The setting sun had dashed pink across the sky, clouds splitting between oranges and dandelion yellows, the heavens alight and Sid just happy to be its audience. “You’re missing out on the best view on the whole beach.” Not true, but Sid often thought of herself as a pretty decent salesperson.
“There are some things you just can’t miss out on in this world.” And Sidney James knew she was without doubt one of those things.
This wasn’t working the way she hoped. Raven was one of the few people in the world, she assumed, that didn’t really like the beach. While it not only brought back bad memories that hindered her from feeling that relaxing sensation and tranquility that the waves crashing on the shore were meant to bring, she hated the gritty feeling of sand and wasn’t fond of the seagulls squawking above. She really thought it would be a nice way to foster a meditative state to de-stress on her rare day off, but all she could think of was misfortune striking her in the form of a hot bird turd falling on her hair, which would be just her luck, but she wasn’t in the mood.
Dusting herself off as best as she could, she cursed under her breath as she marched through the grainy sand, feet sinking in like a foot of snow and making her movements slower and awkward. Her boots in hand, she was passing the stranger straight before they spoke. She’d noticed them chilling out from the corner of her eye, but all in all was minding her own business until now. “ And there are some things you can miss, like the feeling of sand between your toes and in your ass crack -- how the hell it got there, I don’t want to think about.” She chuckle-scoffed. Her trip was too impromptu to bring a blanket or towel.
