So we’ve been gone for a while, as you may (or more likely, may not) have noticed. After a series of booked and hastily dropped shows last summer, we hit the pause button. As much as we’d like to say our reasons for taking a breather were exciting, the truth is that life ultimately has just gotten in the way — much as it has for us in the past.
There was of course an implicit difficulty with one of us living in the S.F. Bay Area for the last four years, making it nearly impossible to practice as a full band on a regular basis.
Moreover though, it was the fact that two of us were inching toward finishing our undergraduate studies while working, as well as the other two of us working full time, that ultimately drained our momentum in 2017.
Well, after two graduations and mulling over decisions for graduate studies, all of us ended up back in the L.A. area this year. As we began gearing up for a renewed push to write, one of us experienced an accident that left their hand fractured in multiple places. This not only left them unable to work, but also made playing music completely out of the question.
A few months of healing and physical therapy on, we are starting to pick where we left off.
We’ve considered calling it a day after 7 years as a band, of course, especially given the extenuating circumstances of the last year. But every time we’ve broached the subject, we unanimously conclude that there’s still validity and life in this project.
In the mean time we’ll somehow try to live up to our responsibility as the apparent arbiters of genre defining music...
We’ll see you sooner rather than later,
La Bella.

Taking Space: a Prologue Taking space is a documentary compendium on how, why, and where individuals carve out and retain autonomous space, with a specific focus on Southern California. The prologue features three spaces in and around the Los Angeles area and the collectives that run them: Hyde Park Half, Bridgetown DIY, and Blood Orange Infoshop. While explaining the logistics of these collectively operated social centers, it sheds light on how the individuals who make up these collectives interact with one another and take up space within their communities.
