The Seven of Disks, Lord of Failure is the final decan of the fixed sign of Taurus, ruled by Saturn. It is placed in the sephira of Netzach of Assiah, the station of Victory with the element of Earth. Success has been thus far unfulfilled. What is needed to achieve Victory in the material plane of Earth, is toil through effort and endurance. The state of Man.
The trumps associated with this card are the Hierophant, of the letter Vau meaning nail, and the Universe, of the letter Tau meaning cross. Symbolically, this is evocative of crucifixion. One is bound and fixed to the entire material universe of creation. Both trumps show the four Kerubim, the tetramorphic elemental guardians in the form of the lion, bull, eagle, and man. These creatures are the embodiment and living energy of the Tetragrammaton and rulers of the fixed signs of the Zodiac.
The card shows an interpretation of a diagram of the Tree of Life after the fall of man; the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Eden of the Six of Disks. In the initiatory grades of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, a similar diagram is shown to the candidate for the Philosophus grade of 4 = 7. It shows in a glyph the teaching proper to the grade upon entering Netzach.
The story goes that before the fall, Malkuth, or Eve, had supported the two pillars of Light and Darkness. Eve was tempted by the fruits of the Tree of Knowledge whose branches lead upwards to the seven lower sephiroth and down into the Kingdom of Shells. When she reached for the fruit and grasped knowledge for humankind, she left the pillars unsupported and the Sephirothic Tree was shattered. With mankind’s attainment of sentience, the great red dragon of seven heads and ten horns, once asleep within Malkuth, now awakened. The seven heads of the dragon rose up and consumed the seven lower Sephiroth, and the dragon grew an eighth head which was Leviathan desecrating the four rivers of Eden and spewing the Infernal Waters into Daath. YHVH Elohim placed the four letters of the holy name, the Kerubim, between the devastated garden and the Supernal Eden. Malkuth was cut off from the Sephiroth and linked with the Kingdom of Shells. Adam and Eve were banished and fell from the garden of paradise, condemned to Saturnian mortal toil and labor. It became necessary that a second Adam should arise to restore the system, and be crucified on the four armed cross. Yet to do so, he must descend to the lowest, Malkuth, and be born of her.
Saturn’s restrictive influence upon the fertility of Taurus is one of blight and spoilage. The promise of success has not come to fruition. Leviathan is an emblematic token of a great obstacle to be overcome. The fall of man is a state likened to the “dark night of the soul,” in which temptations arise to abandon the Work. To conquer the dragon representing this mind state, and thus achieve Victory, one must both accept reality and persevere.
The Augur: The Tree of Life after the Fall, Leviathan, crucifixion. So far success is unfulfilled; the state of Man is toil through effort and endurance.

The Rider Waite Smith Seven of Pentacles shows a man leaning on a scythe, looking somewhat dispiritedly at a tree bearing seven pentacles. The Thoth Seven of Disks shows seven leaden coins arranged in the malignant geomantic figure Rubeus, amongst black and blighted vegetation. The Rosetta Seven of Disks also shows the disks in the figure Rubeus, with the central disk bearing the head of the Minotaur, surrounded by disks of the labyrinth and a maze of cracked earth. Tabula Mundi’s card shows the Tree of Life after the Fall, with Leviathan uncurling from Malkuth and separating the seven lower sephiroth from the upper. This card is the last decan of Taurus, ruled by Saturn, and is unbalanced Netzach of Earth. The cards share a theme of enduring though earth has been blighted.

Xochipilli [ʃot͡ʃi'pilːi] is an Aztec god and patron of gay sex. He is also the god of art, games, beauty, dance, flowers, and song in Aztec mythology. His name contains the Nahuatl words xochitl ("flower") and pilli (either "prince" or "child"), and hence means "flower prince". As the patron of writing and painting, he was called Chicomexochitl "Seven-flower", but he could also be referred to as Macuilxochitl "Five-flower". Xochipilli is also the patron of both homosexuals and male prostitutes, a role possibly resulting from his being absorbed from the Toltec civilisation. He equates to the Mayan god Chin.

Card of the Day: Nine of Disks from the Tabula Mundi Tarot
Lord of Gain (Material Gain)
Middle decan of Virgo, ruled by Venus

The Lord of Gain is the central decan of Virgo, which is ruled by Venus. It is in the sephira Yesod, called Foundation, of the middle pillar, in the material world of Earth and Assiah. This decan contains the exaltation of the sign Virgo, at 15 degrees, and has the beneficial influence of Venus, who seems to be pleased in the lunar realm of Yesod. Earthy Virgo is also happy to be in this stable foundational position. This is a very good card for all material matters; luck is with you and now the harvest has come in. This is the penultimate state of the suit of earth, and all is plentitude and satisfaction due to the good management of the Eight.
The related trumps are the Hermit for Virgo, and the Empress for Venus, ruler of the decan. From both the Hermit and the Empress, we have a wheat field, synonymous throughout history with times of harvest and prosperity. The Hermit is the card of Yod, meaning hand, and the hand is shown on the egg at the top of his staff. At the top of this card, two of the disks also show hands, counting up to nine. Nine is the highest number of the single digits, and thus represents finalization and fruition. Man spends nine months in the womb before being born, and Persephone spends nine months above ground giving fruitfulness to the earth. As three times three, nine is a number of fertility. By showing us nine fingers, the card reminds us that nine is a number of attainment and accomplishment. We are being asked to count our blessings. Crowley calls Venus in the suit of Disks “reckoning up its winnings.”
The bees of the card are also creatures under the astrological rulership of Virgo, in the sense that they are small creatures engaged in diligent behavior. At the top of the card two bees are engaged in the “bee dance” transferring nectar and pollen along with a message of where the flowers to gather them can be found. They speak to each other of abundance and its location, so that the hive may prosper.
From the Empress card for Venus, the disks are shown as round sections of honeycomb. This is a popular way for beekeepers to package honey as getting the bees to fill the round frames requires less labor for the keeper and thus gives more profit. If one has tasted comb honey one knows that there is nothing more delicious and sweet. Honeycomb is symbolic of the harvest of all of the efforts of the bee, and the resultant sweetness. This is mainly on the material and physical level, but can also be spiritual gain. C.C. Zain in Ancient Masonry states that “The hive proper denotes man’s physical body. The honeycomb signifies that which is interior to the physical, the astral body. And the honey is symbolical of the spiritual body, which is composed of the choicest nectars and aromas of earthly experience.”
The disks are arranged in the traditional Golden Dawn arrangement described and shown in Liber Theta, with two pillars of four disks at each side, and one disk in the upper central quadrant. The central disks in this arrangement portray the heart-door of the Empress, open and welcoming. The path leads there and invites you to enter and partake of the sweetness of gain.
The Augur: The open door, the honeycomb, the counting hand. Time to count your blessings, as luck is with you and the sweet harvest comes in.

The Rider Waite Smith Nine of Pentacles shows a woman of means in a fertile garden. She carries a falcon and is surrounded by grapevines loaded with fruit. The Thoth Nine of Disks shows an equilateral triangle of disks with apex upwards, surrounded by an elongated hexagram of disks. These six disks are stamped with the magical images or deities of the planets. The Rosetta Nine of Disks shows a close up view of an abacus with nine green beads on a plum colored background. The abacus is marked with the glyphs of Venus and Virgo. Tabula Mundi has the disks filled with honeycomb. A path through a wheat field leads to a door in the central disk which opens to reveal the heart filled with honey. The two upper disks show hands counting to nine. This card is Yesod of Earth, the middle decan of Virgo ruled by Venus. The cards all show gifts of abundance, where the gods are with you and you have cause to count your blessings.

In contrast to mainstream Paganism, the cardinal directions and elemental associations are not South is Fire, East is Air, etc etc. Rather, North is Ehcatl or Wind and rules the Mental aspects of the Self, East is Tlitl or Fire and rules the Astral Body, South is Atl or Water and rules the Emotions, and West is Tlalli or Earth and rules the Physical aspects of the Self.
Tapping into these Ancestral Ways can tie your Magick and Spellwork to traditions much older than any of these colonial systems ever could.
