Curiosity, if nothing else, was the sole purpose in the nymphâs trip to visit her old comrade. There were no feelings held towards the other, no joy in knowing they were still around, no anger at their existence. Really theyâd always meant nothing to her, but still. Curious to see how they were, upon catching word of their arrival, sent her to their location.
âUlterior motive? Me? You must be kidding!â A small laugh followed her words. Typical of her, sarcastically responding as she were offended. It was right of them to think sheâd have another purpose for her visit; its what sheâd want anyone to think, really.
As if they already knew why she had come, commenting on her prime example of curiosity. They had always been quite astute. It wasnât really a surprise, to find them already tuning in on her reasoning for being here. However, it saved her a bit of time having to explain herself. Not that she intended to explain herself, that is.
âIt doesnât really sound like you missed me all that much, Zexion.â
Better judgement told that they were no longer a Nobody, hence why they hadnât been invited to join the new Organization. Their name was likely no longer Zexion, either. Most would adapt back to their Somebody name, surely. It mattered not to her though, as she would refer to them simply by the name she knew them by.
itâs easier than ienzo would care to admit to fall back into that familiar numbness in his old mannerisms, before he regained his heart and pretended to his colleagues that he wasnât devastated by the gaping hole in his chest. he was so young, raised in an environment devoid of love, thrust into responsibility by xemnas before he fully grasped what that was.
it doesnât feel good. in his infantile understanding of his own feelings, still growing more with every passing month since his recompletion, ienzo has learned the importance of identifying his own complex feelings to himself. helps him stay grounded, even when his ghosts come back to haunt him.
âwe both know the answer to that question, larxene. we can drop the pretenses-- thereâs no point in pretending we are still the people we used to be.â
perhaps the words are lost on the savage nymph, who was perhaps the most ruthless of them all-- not more than once, ienzo wonders what success she and marluxia might have found had they simply had more power. xemnas was not invincible, simply guarded by his own paranoia and the machinations of the other members of the organization.
were they ever really more than colleagues, the lot of them? itâs easy to pretend they had some kind of dysfunctional sense of family about them, but was that really the truth? or was that the child in him not wanting to face reality?
â...ienzo. i donât answer to that name anymore, not that it makes much of a difference to you, i suppose.â itâs a moment of vulnerability, something becoming more and more common with his own humanity.
larxene canât hurt him-- he knows her too well. but perhaps thereâs something more to be seen in her than what sheâs presented for so long, in this strange land of stranger people.
or perhaps thatâs just the young ienzo again, closing his eyes to the truth.
