If you ever wanted to know what it is like flying through the beginning of a Nor'easter, here it is! Honestly, not as scary as I thought. But I did have 3 vodka sodas on the 4hr flight so that might have helped calm the nerves a bit;) We literally climbed over 60,000 ft and rode between two sets of menacing snow clouds. #poetrytour #homesafe #flyingisscary!

In other news, one flight cancelled due to the Nor'easter on Saturday, buuuut now things are back on track & I'm heading to Eastern Connecticut State tonight!

2017 was a spiraling, tumbling year full of strangeness, sadness, & at times--spectacularness. May 2018 be bolder, brighter, better. May it be rebellious in all the right ways as well as humble & fierce. May it have teeth & soft hands. May it be the year that pushes you & holds you. May it be resounding. God bless airports for time & time again reaffirming my queer, gender non-conforming self. Every time someone inquires about my genitalia & tries to redirect me from the female restroom gets a brief educational lesson & an explanation as to why inserting a tampoon at a urinal is a bit uncomfortable. ;) Now onward to NACA West to read some queer poems! Ps this photo was not taken at the airport, but is just a former self giving my current self a thumbs up. Bang-a-rang!

Hello world. I turned 31, alone, on an airplane last Thursday. I juuuuust got home & this is what 31 feels like: a goofy hat, a grateful smile, & a bolo tie with a compass to help me to always find my way. Here's to another year being on this weird & wonderous world. I hope y'all keep spinnin' with me. 💯🎯

From now through at least Saturday my days are going to look a lot like this due to a string of 5:40am flights... First stop Nicholas College tonight & then onward to Oklahoma City for the NACA Central conference! This is an excerpt of something I wrote after Sandy Hook. & then I changed parts of it after Tamir Rice & Michael Brown. & then I changed parts of it after Pulse. & then I changed parts of it after Las Vegas. Which is to say, this piece will always be unfinished & each draft longer than the one before. Our addiction to guns is repulsive. The way the media covers these atrocities is disgusting. I know no other way than to try and write through something like this. I have too many poems about guns when I wish I had none at all.

Just finished this one for book club and what a fantastic read! I highly recommend it and would LOVE if it got taught in high school. Also, it will be turned into a movie hopefully by next year!

This is what resistance looks like: To be an immaculate burst of bloom through the hardness of concrete. This is what survival & persistence looks like: To avalanche open during the hottest Texas summer & thrive against the oncoming traffic. For as long as I can remember I have always believed (and seen) hauntings. They have never been scary or intimidating to me as much as they have been illuminating and full of a form of grace. Which is to say, not all hauntings come to one in darkness. Sometimes they arrive in the unflinching bright of the day. Which is to say, not all hauntings are nightmares-- some come to find you in a daydream. When the mention of a girl haunting the story like a ghost, I viewed her as more of a guider than a haunter because some ghosts are better at showing than scaring. My question is this: is there a ghost that guides you/haunts you towards your art, or is she more muse than ghost? When you are creating do you feel like there is someone standing right behind you, waiting? Do you feel like your creation is only complete once you no longer feel someone behind you, rather you see her, finally, staring right at you from the page? #BookClub #smallbacksofchildren #readingisfun #ilovereading
