OH we also saw Backrooms today! This is a p. scary scenario to me, so I was tense the whole time.

I think they did a nice job filming the unnervingly/magically mundane stuff, a lot like Channel Zero at is best. My favorite shot was when Mary looked back and there was just that tiny dot of black peeking from behind the corner. Cute and shy and threatening at the same time.

Here's the thing: we really liked Clark. I could have done a whole film about Clark hanging out with [REDACTED] and doing whatever. And I was having a lot of trouble staying focused on the therapy speak while decoding the visuals, so I was caught VERY off-guard in the second half when the film told me to be scared of Clark, who drinks straight from the bottle in a furniture store floor display bed

In contrast with strawberries, I have no idea what poison ivy thinks it’s doing. Urushiol affects vanishingly few animals (us and, like… bats) and doesn’t present as a rash for hours or days. We probably only know what causes the rash through our determination to never experience that again— otherwise we’d be like a dog who never learns not to eat a roll of quarters. It likes the safe edges of the forest and it’s toxic to burn. Frankly, the whole thing feels as targeted as if Romero invented it as an allegory for touching things that aren’t yours.

I think the food industry should swap fandom cultures with visual art and music. We should be able to go to any restaurant and become parasocial with the cooks. If they leave the restaurant, we should be able to follow them and we should be able to harass them for recipes. And artists should be allowed to serve things anonymously from a separate room and maybe spit in what they give you

My strawberry plant is SUPER happy this year! After my last plant desiccated thanks to a heat wave and my fear of rot, this one is loving the rainy summer lifestyle in a raised bed.

Strawberries are so well-engineered. The flowers start way up high so pollinators can see them, then the fruits fall onto a cushion of wide, flat leaves to prevent contact with dirt. Not sure what to do about the extra runners skirting around my green bean plants, but I err toward letting it do its thing. From this example you'd think strawberries were unstoppable as kudzu

TADC spoilers:

We haven't been to a "kid" movie in ages! I felt very uncomfortable! But I also semi-consciously watched all of it as if from the perspective of the mother of 3 a few seats away. Imagine your kids begged you to go see cartoon characters crying...

I think it's a fine ending, and cleared up just about everything it was supposed to. I guess that's really all there is to Pomni as a character. She's just Like That, the fantasy mommy caretaker who chases you and digs out your trauma for you and smiles serenely when you hurt her because she, I don't know, only needs a stolen hug to survive. Didn't love the implications there, but what I DO love? Is exploring a character's mind by walking into different rooms. That shit always rules
