funtime foxy. I think I've explained my thoughts before on how the funtimes are sort of a reflection of william's warped perception of the people around him. funtime foxy is an interesting one. I think William THINKS funtime foxy is michael, or more broadly everything wrong with his generation. his design is based heavily off of prince, someone michael was a fan of at the time. he's effeminate, sort of dandy-ish, very clearly queer coded. im certain there were plenty of jokes william wrote into the copy for the shows about the fox's gender. he sees the new generation, as older people tend to do, with a level of frustration (jealousy) for even the slightest bit in the definition of what is acceptable in the world of gender and sexuality when it comes to presentation.

in that way, though I think funtime foxy ends up reflecting william back on himself. William himself has always recognized himself as eccentric, unappealing, strange--- and a little gay (I should say, bisexual) and unable to mask any of that particularly well. he tries, but I think in a way he feels he can notice more than anyone that he is not. the same as 'everyone else' and as much as he'd like to relish in that, he really cant. so here's this character who's whole bit is that he's this loud, boisterous, stereotypically narcissistic "diva" who postures himself as the ringmaster and the center of attention. All of this is laced with a really palpable venom in the narratives written around him. nobody likes him, but they can't get rid of him. I think in the front of his mind, william is calling his son and all of his shitty friends and all of the idols they worship a bunch of attention seeking, vapid queens. but the mannerisms of this character, I think, he very closely referenced off of himself. so. I don't know, this is what happens when you live in utah.
