Where do you think we'd be if everyone went around making up their own steps?
STRICTLY BALLROOM (1992) dir. Baz Luhrmann
yugioh abridged is unironically a cultural artifact. it pretty much kicked off the whole abridging scene, yeah, and that's had crazy effects on related industries. but more importantly, it's just that. having been around for nearly two fucking decades and tending to reference then-recent memes, cultural events, and online norms means that you can use it to trace the evolution of, like, our entire fucking society over the past 18 years. it's living archaeology.
and yes that means early stuff is shitty! it was expected for comedies to casually mock gay people in 2006! hell, trans people weren't generally even acknowledged as existing, which led to running jokes about a notably feminine male character that would read as eye-searingly transphobic if made now. and it was transphobic then too, but it was more a reflection of the normalization of transphobia in comedy than an actively bigoted rhetorical choice. most of them could be easily reframed as the currently-acceptable "this character is an egg and somehow keeps failing to realize" gag with very minor adjustments. this is due to the complete lack of implied vitriol or value judgements beyond "haha that's funny."
the creator really didn't mean any harm, he just didn't understand that he was doing harm. and when he started to learn, he struggled with poe's law for a while. and then he sorted it out! and he did so at roughly the exact same pace the majority of the internet did.
and that's cool. that's expected. people learn, as individuals and in groups. and it's wild to be able to track that through a deeply unserious meme-filled parody series making fun of a shitty anime designed to sell trading cards
revisiting this after the creator cracked her egg to say 1. congrats to her and 2. this proves my point forever

Why is it referred to as coming out of the closet?Â
It could be coming out of anything. What wasted potential.
Coming out of my cage and Iâve been doing just guys
#if you want the pedantic answer bc Iâve actually researched this for my thesis#there doesnât seem to be a for sure agreed upon origin of the phrase BUUUUUT#it seems to be a combo of two earlier phrases âcoming outâ and âskeletons in the closetâ#coming out started to be used by gay men in 1920s new york bc a âcoming outâ was the 1st time a debutante would debut into the dating scene#so gay men would have their âcoming outâ when they first went onto the gay dating scene#a skeleton in your closet is a shameful/dirty secret that would often only be revealed once a person died#for a lot of queer people their queerness was something they literally took to the grave#so being âin the closetâ meant you were the skeleton in your closet#I couldnât find an exact confirmation of when the phrases began to be combined but it seems to be around early 1970s gay liberation movemen#at the time a popular protest chant was âout of the closet and into the streetsâ#which I think also helped to popularize the term#Iâm putting all this in the tags bc I realize this is a silly post that is meant as a joke and I didnât wanna ruin the punchline#but I also wanted to provide an answer for those who were curious
People on Ravelry need to stop publishing designs specifically catered to me, I have a full to-do-list and too many shawls
Zumbrella by Ursa Major Knits
oh dear god this woman is amazing
every once in a while you will come across a designer who really runs with it, makes it their mission to showcase exactly what one can do with knitting
Scalindra
Sun King
Fairly Squarely
Thrills with Frills
Da Vinci Wings
Tassel Dazzle
Helix Felicis
Batman & Robin
Wizard Lizard
Lindworm
That's not even all of them. I'm not a huge fan of the term fibre art but this really is it. Wearable art. Look at the geometry of it all! The structure, the chaos, the whimsy! God I love modular knitting
She has lots of very fun socks as well, and even a couple of cowls and fingerless gloves. Go look at her page immediately.
do me a solid and just reblog this saying what time it is where you are and what youâre thinking about in the tags.

So I add Ryuuâs P5R version.
I tried a different feeling, not his traditional âadorableâ version.
Here are all of them
"these researchers published a paper on something that literally any of us could have told you đ" ok well my supervisors wont let me write something in my thesis unless I can back it up with a citation so maybe it's a good thing that they're amplifying your voice to the scientific community in a way that prevents people from writing off your experiences as annecdotal evidence
they did the research in the first place because they believed you and wanted to tell people about it. they are not our enemies.
people always go "Instead of spending all that time on a study they could have just listened to us when we said these thing happen"
they did listen, that's how studies work, they asked people about their experiences and put all the data together in a nice package that can be cited
what is your LEAST favorite stitch?
I don't like counted work at fucking all. So: the cross stitch.
reading this as someone who does cross stitch but is scared of the other kinds of embroidery is like overhearing an incredibly tall and buff person say they have beef with Mr. Tom, the kitten that chills at the bookstore
FUCK Mr. Tom and his stupid little fluffy tail ok. And his little charted designs.
Okay, but this neglects the true villain of embroidery stitches: the French knot
Don't you dare malign my girl again
Ok the french knot is very useful but it is a BITCH to do it consistently
We talk about how this websiteâs hate mail game is insane, but this might just be a new level
"skill issue" made entirely from French knots is a next level roast. no coming back from that one. damn
Why do kiwis have such massive fucking eggs âitâs because they are related to ostriches and-â yeah ok but like why didnât they evolve smaller eggs if I was in charge I would do that shit pronto. Thoughts?
their big eggs are actually that size for a similar reason to human babies having massive heads!! being bigger at birth can be important.
kiwi are trying SO HARD to become mammals. fur-like feathers, whisker-like feathers, little beady eyes, nocturnal, great sense of smell.... that's basically a mammal!! they're well suited for life on the forest floor.
their big eggs work alongside these adaptations to give them a leg up in the bird world. their young hatch already feathered! they're precocial, which means they're born with the ability to open their eyes and move around. like foals.
big egg = more powerful offspring from the get-go. babies don't need to spend precious time vulnerable while they develop on the ground when they've already done all that in the egg!
(unfortunately, with the introduction of mammals to aotearoa, these adaptations are a little less useful...)
Important addition: baby kiwi come out of the egg looking like they've come out of a shower with a hangover
They look like one of the downsides of emerging from an egg fully formed is how aware you are off just having come out on egg. First minute alive, already dealing with some fucking experience.
brooding men who cannot communicate their feelings if their life depended on it are only hot when they're fictional. if i have to deal with one in real life i will curse him and pray for his downfall every night before i go to bed
It's because the writer communicates their feelings for them. If people wanna pull that off in real life they need to hire a guy to walk around behind them narrating.
#can i be the guy#ill narrate SO incorrectly#theyll all learn how to talk for themselves just to shut me up (via @cirrus-grey)
i'm loving the implication that this isn't something they hired you for, but something you'd do as some sort of public service.
