* When Hermione Granger tells Y/N that she won’t be returning to Hogwarts for their seventh year, she simply responds with four words.* “I’m going with you.”* Clutching her hand, knotting their fingers together and flashing the softest of smiles, Hermione whispers, “No you’re not.”* “Hermione,” she breathes, squeezing her hand, “I’m not going to sit here and worry about you all year. I’m coming with -”* “No, love, you need to stay here.”* Anger and frustration pools in Y/N’s chest as she unlinks their fingers; takes a small step backwards. “Why? Why do you always do this, Hermione? You push me away when things get tough.”* Hermione sighs. “Y/N -”* “No. I’m sick of sitting on the sidelines while you go off, fighting fucking Voldemort or whatever. Do you know how hard that is for me?” she rambles, her eyes pouring into Hermione’s caramel ones.* Y/N didn’t notice the tears collecting in Hermione’s eyes.* Suddenly, the bushy-haired girl grabs Y/N’s shoulders, shaking her slightly and saying, “I can’t lose you, okay?” A sob escapes her throat, and Y/N instinctively places a hand on Hermione’s trembling arm.* The sudden outburst causes Y/N’s chest to tighten, as she feels her eyes prickling with tears as well.* “You’re not going to lose me,” she says, eyes not faltering from Hermione’s face.* Dropping her arms and wrapping them carefully around her torso, Hermione softly says, “You don’t know that. And that’s what scares the living hell out of me.”* Y/N sighs. “Love,” she whispers, taking a step toward her. “Please - don’t push me away,” she says, voice on the verge of breaking.* So Hermione did exactly the opposite.* With her hands on Y/N’s cheeks, the brown-skinned girl pushed her lips desperately onto hers.* Because their world is ripping apart around them, and they’re the last two pieces of thread, struggling to hold it all together.
