Exactly this. Preston Garvey suffers from poorly executed game mechanics, that's all. His character as a whole is so sweet and wholesome and caring. No one else in the game cares as deeply about humanity as he does. I love him. Plus, without Preston, it'd be more trouble to find all the buildable settlements on the map.

Headcanon: Preston is pushy with SoSu to be a good person because he cares about them and doesn't want to see them get ruined by the wasteland and turn into raider trash.
