during the tang fight, after ladybug and tangerine climb back onto the train, tangerine literally grapples onto ladybug and flips him onto his ass ,, fic writers please mention this in ur fics i beg !!

ladybug only has one outfit on the entire movie though it changes almost every other scene because of how many layers he's got on

thinking about how tangerine says take care to prince :( there's a passage in the book where prince is picking up on tangerine's empathy as a weakness and i'm glad for those subtle reminders in the movie that he does casually care about the wellbeing of the people around him, even if he doesn't know them. i'm thinking about the tears in his eyes when he tells the story of minegishi's downfall, the horror at how the white death cuts off fingers instead of arms, how he asks the concessions girl if she's alright when yuichi bumps into her cart, how he tries to be polite to the son and to the prince and how he gives up on trying to kill ladybug even after he'd exposed tangerine's lies and kicked him off the train. i'm thinking about how he's casually tactile with lemon and ladybug and the prince, how he reaches out and touches their shoulders. i'm not saying he's gentle by any means, but he's softer than he lets on and that empathy and that care is there, even with all of the anger and grief and panic and exhaustion. and the truth of the matter is that he's not needlessly violent, that violence fazes him as it also fazes lemon. and despite what they say, neither of them really shoot first and come up with the answers later, and the fact that this cost tangerine his life will make me insane for the rest of my time on this planet i fear

the crux of tangerine's character is that he loves intensely, too much to do what he does in a healthy way. and i think one of the things that's so awesome about this movie is how every character has such a unique relationship with their profession. because how DO you do this job in a healthy way? what does it mean to kill people in a healthy way? what does it mean to kill people and not care? what does it mean to kill people and care horrifically? what does it say about you if you kill people and you don’t care? what about if you care horrifically but kill people anyway? it’s really interesting.

ladybug thinks hes not well adjusted but he is. tangerine thinks hes well adjusted but hes not. lemon thinks hes well adjusted and he is. and tangerine is the one who dies, because he cannot continue once he thinks lemon is dead, because he loves too much. because he cares too much. because he is so tired of feeling everything so deeply. i think tangerine is well aware of this weakness and it’s why he is so desperate to be seen as a professional. because being seen as a professional is being seen as someone who doesn’t care.

bullet train is for gay people. this is clear because channing tatum, in playing the passenger, takes on the role of the spectator - thus having the movie's audience represented in the film. by characterizing the audience as an extremely horny gay man, we can infer that bullet train's target audience is the LGBTQIA+ community.

ladybug is actually so fucking proficient

he says it's bad luck, because of his newfound desire to not kill people or try not to (and I truly think it all, therapy, choosing to try not to kill people, just snatch and grab jobs, all came to a head when Lemon shot him, for several reason that were briefly touched on in the movie but, whatever, that's another post) but he is SCARILY proficient.

Here's my headcanon and explanation why he ends up killing people EVEN WHEN trying not to, EVEN WHEN he pauses to talk them out of it, which is really just asking them if they REALLY wanna fight cause he KNOWS how it'll end, and if he doesn't win....he's sorta resigned to it. Anyway.

My entire family consists of skilled fighters that have been fighting their entire life.

So I KNOW after years - and ladybug has been in this business for a LONG time - a fight, and navigating a fight, just becomes another one of your senses, it is so natural your body and mind just DO

Every instance he gets the high ground because he's so practiced, even being out for a little while for normal jobs, even while being clumsy, even with his so called bad luck.

If he hadnt been trying to ACTIVELY not kill them, based just on intuition from years of practice, he would have killed them before they even had a chance to kill him.

If he hadnt disliked guns, they wouldn't have even gotten close to him.

He's vigilant, and quick, and innovative--when he closed the door on tangerines arm, when he baited hornet, talking her into grabbing the antidote, then QUICKLY grabbed it from her and used it on himself, even before when he injected her with the poison.

When Lemon shot him in the flashback, he just reacted with exasperation because he had been shot before, probably multiple times from his reaction to it.

He's made out to be a lot less formidable than he actually is, and the reason he comes across that way is because of his nonchalance and resignation to the situation at hand and the resignation leads to him being goofy and clumsy and careless in the moment.

And he has so much resignation because of his years of experience, and the shit he's been through, much like The Elder.

He couldve killed Hornet when he had the briefcase above her, and chose to give her a chance by talking to her, he couldve killed lemon in the beginning when he was sitting in front of him, and gave another chance by talking to him.

He killed the Wolf, accident and instinct, he killedtangerine mortally wounded tangerine.

And all of these are highly skilled killers.

The skill it took to throw a knife that clean, that precisely, from over 6 feet away on a fast moving train, while crouching, and hit the target in the heart with enough depth he sunk immediately, and not hurt lemon at all in the process? Even lemon was surprised.

Bad luck, or is it just a resignation to kill, instinct, and extreme proficiency.

Bad luck or just not caring because he's been in this business for so long, left it, just to return and realize, fuck, he really didn't miss this chaos.

Bad luck or muscle memory?

No, Ladybug is one of the most proficient hitmen on that train and I wonder how ruthless he used to be before he decided to become a new man.

And he also just has really good luck, who the fuck survives a train splitting and crashing like that? The fuck.

just a few thoughts on tangerine

tangerine is a fucking brat. he's a brat, no way around it. he's an angry, anxious mess that is anxious cause he's angry and angry cause he's anxious. he's determined and sassy and strong-willed and stubborn and mouthy. man, does he talk back. he's such a brat. and it's obvious Lemon is one of the only people he trusts.

which is why it is so shocking, to me, how quick he was to let Ladybug free from the threat of the chopsticks (his will that could only be from the strength and determination of a bottom) and get close to him and befriend him. he trusted ladybugs input and plan SO fast. he protected him, tried to warn him about the Diesel, and still, STILL, even AFTER Ladybug accidentally shot him, he was trying to warn him, to protect him, to not let whatever happened to Lemon, happen to the one person he had left on this train. he was so worried, and yeah, annoyed, but not angry like he would have been if it were someone else that he hadn't come to trust. not one threat against Ladybug's life, just a warning of protection.

why? is it to honor his, what he thought was dead, brother's judgement? or is it because of what he himself saw in Ladybug?

I think Tangerine would be annoyed once he woke up in the hospital, and even put up a front of anger, but he'd definitely be relieved. Relieved that the Diesel hadn't killed his brother and relieved that the diesel hadn't killed his...well, hadn't killed,

Ladybug.

as a movie-tangybug shipper, i have to ignore ladybug's canon reaction to tangerine's death... because for the love of god it was so underwhelming. like, ladybug turns his back on tangerine's still-cooling body and keeps it hustling... uhmm... my man... wtf 😭

It was really fucking underwhelming, but, also, throughout the entire movie, even when being 'compassionate', like offering water to the hornet or talking her through it, or when talking to the wolf after he dies, or propping up the bodies, he's not....attached. he's doing it all with a thorough dose of dissociation and detachment. He's seen death, he's been around it before, and so it's not really SHOCKING to him. Plus, I head canon, he has some sort of PTSD and also, it's implied, BPD (borderline personality disorder), and ya know what can be an affect of both of those? DP-DR, a dissociative disorder, short for depersonalization derealization disorder, where he doesn't think he's real, and he doesn't think anything else or anyone else is real.

It might even be said the way he was talking to the hornet was sorta mocking (i don't believe so). but still, very detached, and in both, the wolf and the hornet, he was sorta like, 'oh well,' and moved on.

He had more distractions with Tangerines death (the crying Prince, his desperate need to get off the train, etc) so him even slightly hesitating, which he did, and looking back briefly, which he did, is a BIG sign.

The brief moments of anxiety, and then cutting out of it, to get back in game? Dissociation, DP-DR, distancing yourself to survive.

I have DP-DR and so I can recognize the signs of it and he matches quite a few. The shield of DP-DR does occasionally come down and that's when you can see his anxiety. That's why his reactions are so bizarre and strange.

At least that's my explanation and what I head canon.
