It was Mahrajan and Sindria was at its most festive. Usually King Sinbad was covered in beautiful women in their skimpy festival dress. But usually, Sinbad wasn’t in love, and usually wasn’t about to confess.
Lately, Sinbad was…different. Here he was, in the middle of Mahrajan, with no drink and no women. Sitting in his throne, Sinbad watching them enjoy the festivities. It made his heart warm to see them enjoying life in the country he built. It was time. Sinbad rose from his seat and made his way over to them. Lightly placing his hand on their arm, he asked if they could speak a moment in private.
Away from the roar of the festival, they stared at Sinbad, his face solemn.
“I have been thinking for some time and I have something I need to tell you.” He grasped their hands between his.
“I love you deeply, and I am willing to do what it takes to prove to you that I mean it.”
They gave him a skeptical look.
“I’ll never look at another woman or touch a drop of alcohol if you would just agree to give me a chance.” And then he smiled, a big, honest, charismatic smile with a wisp of hopefulness and it took everything within them not to melt under its radiance.
