Donât Tell Girls
âYouâre too pretty to be singleâ Why is one personâs idea of ideal aestheticism A basis for a relationship status And furthermore What is so goddamn shameful or pathetic about being single anyway Is confidence and comfort in being by oneâs self intimidating to you
âSwearing is unladylikeâ Bullshit Swears are only words And these words do not negate my intelligence, or passion, or define anything about me as a person or my character Men are never told not to swear Swear as much as you fucking want
âYour standards are too high! Just give him a chanceâ No You are invalidating a womanâs right to say no She doesnât need to explain herself to anyone She doesnât owe anyone anything Ever Everyone should have standards for themselves, and not feel like they need to lower them to please anyone Or be shamed for leading someone on when they know it would never work Because that happens too
âIf you dress like that, boys will get the wrong ideaâ What idea might that be? That women might actually feel beautiful and confident in their own bodies? Heaven forbid Because obviously womenâs bodies belong to everyone else except themselves
âDonât frown - someone might be falling in love with your smile!â Why Is it my responsibility to always smile no matter how I feel I am a human being who is allowed to experience pain, or confusion, or sorrow, or boredom Men are never criticized for having âresting bitch faceâ
âShort hair makes you look like a boy!â This is assuming That there is one certain way for âboysâ and âgirlsâ to look Not so Some boys have long hair, some girls have short hair, some people who are both or neither also have hair Hair has no gender Humans are allowed to look different from each other and express themselves how they like Gender identity and gender expression are not the same
They arenât ârealâ girls because they were born with a penis Anyone is a girl who says they are a girl Stop trying to undermine someoneâs identity They know themselves better than you do Anatomy and identity are different, and sometimes separate Why are you so obsessed with other peopleâs genitals anyway
âYouâre going to break a lot of hearts one dayâ Why would you ever Ever Say this to a girl A young, impressionable girl Breaking hearts is not a compliment, or a goal Coming from someone who has broken at least one From simply being honest and being myself It is a burden - a guilt that has been (mis)placed on my shoulders since childhood I never wanted to be labelled a heartbreaker simply for existing
âYou donât want kids? Youâll change your mind one dayâ No I wonât Even if I do, one day, that doesnât make my opinion right now any less valid or deserving of respect Stop disbelieving people about their own life choices Also, having children is not a necessary milestone for a successful or fulfilling life
âDonât have sex before marriage - boys really want a virginal girlâ Sure they do And are boys ever held to that same expectation To stay virgins until marriage? Because as women are shamed for âimpurity,â boys are applauded for âexperienceâ I love the smell of double standards in the morning
âYou shouldnât wear so much makeupâ The natural look is great The makeup look is great The anything you feel like doing or not doing to your own face look is great Let people do whatever they want to their own bodies Whatever makes them feel good Why do you care
âSelfies are just for attentionâ Maybe Maybe not Whatâs so wrong about liking attention Whatâs so wrong about feeling beautiful and confident in your own skin And wanting to share that feeling with others We were taught for so long to hate our bodies What is so threatening about finally loving them
âCat-calling is flattering! Learn how to accept a compliment!â âI like your hairâ is a compliment âYouâre a really talented writerâ is a compliment The gross, vulgar things that men shout at women they donât know on the street Are not compliments They are harassment - meant to imply ownership and dominance and even violence Compliments should not make people fear for their lives walking home Compliments should not actually get people killed

"... I just took a picture of you, is that okay?" Sounding perfectly earnest, despite the out-of-order sequence of events, and raising his digital camera to illustrate the point.
The model blinked, not even having noticed that he had snapped the picture. âWell Iâd have preferred if you had asked first but itâs alright.â She was pretty use to people asking for a picture anyways.
@zugzwillinge
What a way to spend her day off. Sheâd spent a good portion of it baking the treat in her hand and now was on her way to see the pair it was for. Elesa made quick steps through Gear Station until she found the open office door. âHey boys. I brought birthday cake.~â
âI like listening to jou sing.â
The sudden voice made her pause her lyrics and look around until she spotted the man. She blinked, quiet, wondering if she should have hidden herself. âThank youâŠâ She replied hesitantly. Her hands were on either side of hips, ready to push off from her seat if need be.
âHonestly I vasnât even zhinking zhat far einhead.â Which was why heâd spoken up honestly. Sitting up straight, his arms stayed where they were for the most part, âVasnât trying to get jou back over here. I vas just trying to make ein point.â He shook his head a bit, âAnyvay zhe very fact I even told jou Iâm ein Pirate should say somezhing einbout me.â His right hand came up so he could rest his chin on it, âItâs naut like I even had much choice on zhe matter seeing itâs zhe only life style I know.â Once more he was mainly talking to himself, âUnd it doesnât help zhat I haff ein pull tovards zhe sea.â
How odd. She had thought he would have. Still she watched him carefully her mind still cautious. She didnât know what to say to him and she made no move to get close again though the tip of her tail fin twitched irritably. âOh? Like what? All it did was make me want away from you.â She shot back. There was no way she could ever trust a pirate. The mermaid frowned a bit at him saying he didnât have a choice. How curious. Then the last sentence made her tilt her head. âBut arenât most sailors drawn to the sea? Isnât that why most are sailors?â
âI like listening to jou sing.â
The sudden voice made her pause her lyrics and look around until she spotted the man. She blinked, quiet, wondering if she should have hidden herself. âThank youâŠâ She replied hesitantly. Her hands were on either side of hips, ready to push off from her seat if need be.
âVell for vone zhing I couldâve taken advantage of zhe fact jou didnât realize I vas here in zhe first place.â He started, pulling off his shirt, ringing that out as well, âBesides as jouâve been saying, jou could charm me into letting jou go. Vhy bozher?â Setting his shirt next to his jacket, he turned away to shake out his hair. Running a hand through it to put it back into place, he left his pants and belt alone for now. Sighing a bit, he rested his forearms on the top of his thighs, âZhat enough to convince jou?â He asked, looking back at her with an eyebrow raised.
âThat is true yes but this could be some play to get my trust. You humans are more devious than my kind.â Which was why they were so rare. Being hunted and kept as pets or worse. Elesa blinked when he removed his shirt. Well wasnât he nice to look at. But she had also seen so many that she remained unfazed. âBecause Iâd rather be at a distance than have you somehow break from my spell and turn against me.â She watched him carefully as he continued to move. âHmph, nothing you say will make me come back over there.â
âI like listening to jou sing.â
The sudden voice made her pause her lyrics and look around until she spotted the man. She blinked, quiet, wondering if she should have hidden herself. âThank youâŠâ She replied hesitantly. Her hands were on either side of hips, ready to push off from her seat if need be.
He had a feeling she was up to something when she moved her arm. The Captain just wasnât sure what. When she pushed him, he spluttered as he git back up, âVhat zhe hell?! I vasnât going to do anyzhing, gods!â Wiping his face off, he got up and back onto the rock, watching her, âZhat vas rude.â Pulling off his jacket, he started ringing it out then laid it on a rock to dry, âSheesh I vas just trying to make ein conversation ist all.â He was more so muttering to himself at this point, seeing as she was still trying to get away.
She would have laughed at him if she werenât moving away. She didnât turn back until she thought she was at a safe distance. The mermaid turned back to see him laying the jacket down. Now his weapons were exposed and she would be able to see when and if heâd go after either. When he finished speaking she huffed at him. âOh please, I know how you pirates work. Iâve lost many of my friends because of men like you seeing us as nothing more than treasure. How am I to know you wont try to do the same?â
âI like listening to jou sing.â
The sudden voice made her pause her lyrics and look around until she spotted the man. She blinked, quiet, wondering if she should have hidden herself. âThank youâŠâ She replied hesitantly. Her hands were on either side of hips, ready to push off from her seat if need be.
A smirk was given, âDarling Iâm naut like most men in case jou couldnât tell. Iâm naut just ein normal sailor after all.â He was a Pirate Captain. Not your usual man indeed. Her actions only furthered his amusement, âZhatâs naut fooling me doll. I canât tell jou hau many vomen haff sat in mein lap, pulling zhe same stunts. I know ein lie vhen I hear vone. Iâm ein Pirate after all. Und ein Captain at zhat.â Maybe now sheâd understand more.
The mermaid shifted her blue eyes to him as he spoke again. She remained silent and unfazed for the most part. It didnât surprise her that he got a lot of female attention given how he looked. He was handsome...for a human. However, when he mentioned he was a pirate her eyes widened a bit. Pirates were bad news when not in open sea. She knew pirates would likely see her kind as nothing but treasures. âHm... A pirate, huh?â She lifted her hand nearest him as if to look at her nails but promptly shoved him into the shallow water around them. She then lifted herself off the stone to pull herself toward the deeper water.

The sudden voice made her pause her lyrics and look around until she spotted the man. She blinked, quiet, wondering if she should have hidden herself. âThank youâŠâ She replied hesitantly. Her hands were on either side of hips, ready to push off from her seat if need be.
âLittle? Darling if jou had legs Iâd probably be ein foot taller zhan jou.â Even if it was only by four inches, he was over six feet tall after all. Seeing her move, he knew exactly what she was after with that little stunt. The Captain wasnât going to fall for it though, as he remained unphased, âNein, I guess  I really canât. But, if jouâre going to do zhat sort of zhing.â He gestured at her pose in general, âJouâll haff to try harder.â
âSo? Iâll call you whatever I please. You men usually donât complain anyways.â For the first time she looked away from him and pushed a long bit of her hair back over her shoulder. So he really was a smart one. She gave a fake huff and turned up her nose a bit. âI donât know what youâre taking about. I was just getting comfortable.â It was a lie but she was excellent at lies.
âI like listening to jou sing.â
The sudden voice made her pause her lyrics and look around until she spotted the man. She blinked, quiet, wondering if she should have hidden herself. âThank youâŠâ She replied hesitantly. Her hands were on either side of hips, ready to push off from her seat if need be.
âVhat can I say? I haff faith in meinself.â He didnât care what she thought, heâd never forget Kudari that easily. Resting his chin in his palm, he hummed a bit, âCanât blame me for liking to zhink I vould be able to zhough.â In all honesty he wasnât exactly sure what would happen. Like heâd said, heâd like to think heâd be able to resist her charms, but you could never be sure unless it happened after all. Not just any woman, even a Mermaid, could charm him.
âYou think the others didnât? I have my ways, little man.â She shifted her hands to make it look like she was relaxing back on her hands and purposely pushing her chest out but she was still able to push off if she needed. It was always easy to lure men with her looks then with her voice. âNo I canât but even you canât doubt my abilities either.â

âOh Iâm sure.â Surprisingly he didnât even flinch when she moved closer or placed a finger under his chin, he only gave a cockeyed smirk, âMaybe, but mein vill to survive ist stronger zhan most. I haff ein tvin to protect after all. Ve only haff each ozher at zhis point in our lives.â He wasnât saying this to gain her sympathy, and his tone said that as well. He was merely stating what he felt was a fact. He wouldnât let her charm him so easily. A hand waved dismissively, âBesides, Iâm naut zhreatening jou. Und jou could be gone as quick as jou vant, so itâs naut like me telling anyvone vould harm jou.â
She had heard this âstronger willâ business before. âAll it would take is a few extra words on my part. You would forget everything to fall for me. Even your precious sibling.â And then of course he would meet his death. Just like many others. So many others. And none of them left her with any regret. âI didnât say you were now did I? I just find it amusing you think you can get away from me.â
âI like listening to jou sing.â

A soft chuckle left him, âKind of ironic zhen, given I am ein sailor.â Of sorts, anyway, but heâd assume sheâd guess that with his outfit. He gave a soft hum, âOh nein I donât doubt zhat. Itâd be easier for me to fight back zhough.â He could go for his gun a lot quicker than she might think after all. His eyes wandered a bit, then went back to her face. She was beautiful, but then again all Merfolk were after all.
âI know a sailor when I see one.â She said with a hum. Though she never really paid to much mind to what kind her victims were. What he said next made her give an amused chuckle and a devious smile. She leaned close to his face, lifting a hand to place a finger under his chin. âSilly human, thinking you can escape. All I have to do is change my words and you would be mine.â She dropped her hand and leaned away from him again. She loved doing that tease to the ones that got close to her.

The Captain gave a soft chuckle, âJouâre velcome. Do zhe lyrics haff ein meaning or did jou just overhear it from somevhere?â Moving a little closer, he sat down on one of the rocks, âHonestly I know zhe tales, but seeing hau jou arenât in open vater zhatâs zhe only reason I got zhis close.â
The mermaid watched the human carefully, looking for any sign of sudden movement. â...Itâs about a girl who fell in love with a sailor.â He was just lucky she wasnât singing in Greek otherwise heâd be under her spell completely. Her sea blue eyes never left his large frame as he sat next to her. âI donât need deep water to drown you.â
