āanakin, what do you have?ā

Foam to Leather (Tutorial)
Things youāll need:
Brown craft foam
Aluminum foil
Clothes iron
Ironing board
Black paint
Brown paint (lighter than your foam)
Paint brush
Paper towel
Grab some aluminum foil and crumble it into a ball. Not too tight of a ball though! The next step is almost impossible if you do.Ā
Next, un-crumple the ball. Flatten it out into one layer. Itās fine if there are a few holes.
Place it on top of your foam.
Take your iron and firmly press it on the foam and aluminum. My iron was set to 3 (polyester) but the correct temperature may be different for other irons. Just remember not to use steam! Before doing this on a large piece, be sure to experiment and figure out what the best temperature and what the best pressure is. On larger pieces, youāll have to move the aluminum around a lot. Itās not a quick process.
Now youāve got this crinkly affect on the foam. Next is painting!
Grab youāre brush, black paint, and a dish with some water. The idea is to dilute the black paint enough so that when you apply it the paint will seep into the divets the aluminum created.Ā
Once the watery paint is applied, wipe it off with a paper towel. Continue to do this for your whole piece of foam.
Now hereās an optional step (of which I havenāt done myself but Iāve known others who have):
Grab the light brown paint and, without diluting it, paint it on. Itās best to use a coarse brush in this case and to try to keep it out of the divets. Wipe some of the paint off.Ā
Remember, imperfections are always good! Uneven paint isnāt necessarily bad so just experiment with it.Ā
Hereās an example of a bracer I did with this method. The first two pictures are an example of the foam I began with and the rest show the end result. I hope this helps you guys out!

Finally got in a good photoshoot with Uroko at an actual beach (not just a pondā¦) and had fun attempting some sort of aquarium photography as well. I got looots of pictures from this shoot so probably more later.
P.S. I donāt understand how people can dislike the smell of the ocean. Itās great???? But now you know why I cosplay Uroko
Wasn't sure if I should post this but here's another photo of my Fjord cosplay.

So I was at a renaissance faire as Daenerys this past weekend and suddenly ran into an entire Monty Python group. I must admit that this is possibly the greatest video Iāve ever done in cosplay
so basically, Iām baby
Cosplaying has taught me so much about love. As a plus size woman of color, societyās standard of beauty made me question my worth so many times and even starting out in the community I found myself comparing myself to others. But when it came down to it, cosplaying and seeing myself become characters that I truly love made me see that I deserve to appreciate my own beauty. I am especially so grateful for all of the beautiful friends and genuine moments Iāve experienced.
I remember my first Katsucon, I was just sitting in the middle of a hallway alone crying because I just felt so anxious and two girls came up to me to try to console me. One of them even gave me a print that she made reminding me that I was strong. Another guy just randomly came by and offered me their food to try to make things better. That kindness from strangers at a convention is truly the love the cosplay community is capable of.
I have always had an affinity for those secondary obscure characters in anime - the ones that provide the backbone for the story but no one ever really pays attention to. When I watched Houseki no Kuni, I felt immediately drawn to the Lunarians. I was fascinated with them being the ominous villain paired with the ethereal white/gold aesthetic. When thinking how to translate that aesthetic into real life, I really wanted to maintain the emphasis on the design elements rather than staying completely canon because I wanted to celebrate aspects of myself - especially with the decision whether or not to do white body paint.
I think I surprise people a lot when I tell them that Iāve only been cosplaying roughly for about two years now. I have such a long way to go but the Lunarian cosplay really represents how my skills have grown. Initially, I felt like a bit of a cosplay imposter since the base of the dress was just a generic white dress that I got off of Amazon, but I think itās important to stress that any cosplay is valid because youāre the one wearing it. The sleeves were an addition that I added on by simply sewing and adding on the lace ruffle. To construct the jewelry I used jute rope covered in gold fabric, gold ribbon, decorative beads, and split jump rings. While the dress and jewelry was meticulously planned - the wig was haphazardly being hot glued together at 3AM in the hotel con room just hours before a morning shoot. The wig was a lacefront base and to achieve the different tiers, I used the sock bun method. Knowing that the wig itself was going to be structurally heavy I used lightweight accessories - the gold crowns were actually just really fancy cupcake liners!
Honestly, an aesthetic like this really requires some finesse. The wig was not as stable as I wished it was so I was playing a balancing act the entire time trying to keep the buns from completely leaning to the side! I also wore mesh contacts, so my vision was slightly compromised. Every shot of me looking stoically in the distance was actually me trying to blink back tears since my eyes kept watering in the sunlight, but bless my photographerās heart for being so gracious and patient with me! Struggle aside, itās always fun just having people ask what youāre cosplaying. A number of people thought I was an extremely fancy version of Storm.

White Diamond by Kelly Kirstein.
here's my actual "it's mash's birthday" post.
mash is so special to me and has been since i first saw her. she's so kind, and genuinely very caring. as i got to know her better through the story i just wanted to protect her more and more, and at the same time i found that her narrative really resonates with me. mash is trying so hard, and she's doing amazing with what she has, and then she surpasses even that. she may be just a fictional character but i'm so proud of her, and it always makes me so, so happy when i put her cosplay on.
happy birthday, sweet kouhai
THERISEOFJJONES : We walked through the door at Blerdcon and made it about 5 feet in the span of 30 minutes due to how often we were stopped for photos. And that continued throughout the whole day. Wherever we went we were stopped for photo ops. Being that this is my 3rd con ever and the first one where I wore a costume, it was surreal to me! Iām used to holding the bags and it was all new to me. Definitely a new experience for me. And people would walk up and say things like āthereās a snake in my bootsā and I would respond with another Woody quote like āYouāre my favorite Deputy!ā I enjoyed that.
CHARLIEROCKET : Ā It was funny because people would ask for our photo, and JJ would automatically assume they were just asking for a photo of me !l He would grab my bags and start walking away. And I had to tell him- āYou know weāre cosplaying from Toy Story, right??? People want to see Woody AT VERY LEAST! They arenāt out here for Bo Peep alone! LOLā And he was so in character as Woody! He had the walk down! He was saying all the quotes haha! As for me, I have never cosplayed a character that required a dress at all! So wearing a hoop skirt was a big adjustment! I was feeling my most pretty pink princess self, which was super new to me! And moving around the con, through people, on elevators and escalators was definitely a learning adjustment haha! I have always loved Bo Peepās character. When I saw Toy Story in theaters in 1995 (Not to age myself), I was drawn to her nurturing and caring personality. She was such an overlooked character and when she basically faded away over time I was highly upset. Bo Peep has been on my cosplay list since I started cosplaying! So when Toy Story 4 was announced and Bo Peep was a main character, I thought that now was the perfect time to make my dream a reality.
Surprisingly, Bo Peep was the easy one! I purchased the Bo Peep costume from MicCostumes and only had very few adjustments to make to it. The bonnet had no way of staying on my head, so I attached a hair clip inside. I also had to take in the sides of the dress a little bit. For her crook, I wanted to make sure it was tall enough to be screen accurate, but also able to hook Woody by the neck hahaha! I ordered a crook on Amazon and painted it to be the correct color. I also found her shoes at Good Will. As for Woody, it is difficult finding a full Woody costume without it being an onsie, so we had to get creative. We ordered a āWoody costume setā that included the hat, bandanna, and vest. We also searched for some cowboy boot covers so that it looked more ādoll-likeā and also theyāre cheaper than actual cowboy boots haha! With the basics set, we just ordered a yellow button up from Amazon and hand tailored it ourselves.
THERISEOFJJONES : Itās changed my life. I donāt even know how to word this, because cosplay has brought me so much. Cosplay has literally helped me to find my people. Itās so funny that in the world you think there is nobody like you, but through cosplay you realized there are people like you and theyāre right here. Cosplay has brought me a since of community and made me feel like I belong. It has definitely changed my life for the better. And it brought me my Bo Peep! I feel like cosplay validated who I am.
CHARLIEROCKET : Cosplay has been such a crazy ride. I definitely had an unconventional start to cosplay. My first guest appearance at a convention was only months into my start with cosplay. I was kind of thrown in the deep end. And when I started, I just felt like an introvert who had a love for nerd culture and the characters we all grew up with. Iāve always loved costumes and figured cosplay was the best way to show my love and appreciation for those characters. But it developed into a platform where I could speak about the topics that are important to me. I could talk about diversity, body image, parenting, and changing the narrative on all the platforms we love in this community. I have found lifelong friends. I have found a purpose that I would have never known or ever dreamed of. I have found my identity and so much confidence. And Iāve never had the opportunity to wear couples cosplays until now and it is life changing! I am now addicted and most of my costumes are going to end up being in a pair haha! My Bo Peep would have been so incomplete without Woody!

SAILOR ADAMANTIUM : The first day we walked into Wizard World in our costumes we were nervous and afraid that no one would āgetā our mash-up concept. As soon as we stepped onto the con floor a little kid looked up at us and yelled āMOM LOOK! Theyāre from the movie Black Panther!ā The smile on that young childās face solidified that we not only did a good job with our costumes but it goes deeper than that. We can actually help bring joy to people, and more of that is always a great thing.
SAILOR URU : The Wakanda Moon concept came to me in the fall of 2018. I really wanted to do something for Wizard World in New Orleans and wanted to create something to create something unique. At the time I was obsessed with the movie Black Panther. Especially the Dora Milaje, being an army of female warriors. From their bald heads, to the tribal markings, down to the impeccable detailing of not only the character style but the depth in which their style matched their personalities. I thought about other strong female warriors that I could mash this idea with and immediately the scouts of Sailor Moon came to mind. Just like that, Wakanda Moon Cosplay was born!
