Stay the Night || Laena & Joanna
"Perhaps when I am there you could show me to it? The Great Sept of Baelor. I have seen some pictures of it in my brother’s books, but I’m sure the reality is much better than any drawing could ever capture.” She grinned to herself, looking up at the ceiling for a second before turning back to face Laena, shifting so she was in a similar position to her.
Try something? What did she mean? Try what? “What do you — ” She started, then found herself stopped by Laena’s lips on hers.
Joanna froze. Is that what she meant? They were, they were kissing. She had never kissed anyone before. Years ago one of the kitchen maids had talked about it and told her that she would be a woman grown only when she had first kissed a boy, but she had given one of the groomsmen a stag and told him to agree if she said she’d kissed him. She’d never — she’d never wanted to.
But she wanted to now. Unfortunately, Laena was already pulling away. Joanna opened her eyes (when had they dropped shut?), heart beating wildly in her chest as she looked at Laena, impossibly close. Could she, should she simply lean forward just a little? And they’d be kissing again. But did she want to? Yes. Would Laena want her to? She opened her mouth, her eyes unhelpfully drawn to Laena’s lips. But she couldn’t. She didn’t dare; she dared to travel to King’s Landing all on her own, or to run down to the lion cages on the Rock and try to feed them, or to go through the desert of Dorne without worrying about getting lost… but she couldn’t find the courage in herself to do this.
"Is this," she paused, mouth dry and breath unsteady, and had to moisten her lips with her tongue before she could continue. "Is that what you wanted to try?"
Joanna seemed so surprised, Laena thought. And the way she looked at her. Her expression was so innocent, so clueless. Had she never kissed anyone before? Was that possible? Laena was not going to ask, but a part of her hoped that was the case. She liked it. She liked it that she might have been the first one to kiss Joanna's lips. Considered herself the better choice than any boy who Joanna could have met at Casterly Rock.
A mischievous smile spread across the corners of Laena's lips as she nodded in reply to Joanna's question. "Yes. Did you not like it?" The Blackfyre girl asked teasingly as she quickly raised herself up as to take a sitting position. "When you get married, your husband would like it if you knew what to do. I am teaching you." The words were followed by a giggle. Laena chose to make a jape out of it, Joanna seemed so uncertain of her own feelings that it was probably better that way. When she would become more confident, then Laena could share what had really happened.
The sky outside was taking an even darker shade, Laena wondered if she should leave, let Joanna take her rest. "Would you like me to leave?" She asked once she had calmed down. "Or...should I stay? No one doesn't have to know. I can leave your chambers in the very early morning if you wish." The latter was preferred. "I know that friends often share, not just secrets and they spent the night together sometimes. Just sleeping. And we are friends, are we not?" Laena asked, raising her eyebrow.
