Renee Davis, pregnant mother on Muckleshoot tribal land, was fatally shot by police

King County, Washington, sheriff’s deputies shot pregnant 23-year-old Renee Davis at her home on Muckleshoot tribal lands Friday. According to the Tribune, Davis was living with depression and sent a text message to a friend to say she was not doing well. Her friend alerted police officers, who arrived shortly after 6:30 p.m.

Hey Tumblr Fam!

I know it’s been awhile since i’ve posted my artwork. But I’ve been working on my thesis project and focusing on graduating (two weeks!)

Taking from the style of the Kanga fabrics, and infusing it with southern influence, based on nostalgic memories of being raised by my mother’s side of the family whom are from the south. Each kanga represents the women in my family who raised me and made me the woman that I am today. Without them I wouldn’t be the artist that I am today. My thesis is dedicated to them and I will continue this project after graduation.

A Black Lives Matter activist killed himself on the steps of the Ohio Statehouse, authorities said.

Rest in Power activist MarShawn McCarrel. We got to do better with taking care and loving our black brothers. This young man was only 23 years old. I’m not even 23-years old yet and this really breaks my heart. Love your Black brothers damn it!

McCarrel was homeless for three months after he graduated from high school — an experience that inspired him to help others, according to his nomination.

“When MarShawn got back on his feet, he felt the need to give back because so many people helped him when he was down,” it read. “MarShawn stresses the importance of having conversations with the people we feed because they’ll get hungry in 2 hours but a good conversation will carry them over for a lifetime.”

“All everyone needs is love,” he told 614 Columbus in 2014, referring to his work with the Feed the Streets. “That’s a human being. That’s a pulse. We’re feeding everyone, we’re sending the message — today I got you; tomorrow, I could be right there.”
