Probably the most inspiring artist I discovered this year so far: Minnie Riperton. So much soul, at certain points it's simply indescribable. Makes my heart bleed and realize the world can't be such a bad place with such persons. Even bigger the tragedy: she died in her 30ies...

The Hauptbahnhof Video Walk.

I made it to one of this summer's highlights: documenta(13). Equipped with a press accredition, comfortable shoes and the company of Dr. Fröhlich and VJ mo aka Mrs. Okamoto I can only do one thing: highly recommend to attend to the world's biggest art fair and enjoy some days in this lovely city. With my personal passion for everything related to video art, my highlights were these two works: Rabih Mroué - 'The Pixelated Revolution'.

In a video the artist describes the idea of optography, which came up late 19th century alongside photography. People were searching for a method to extract pictures which were "recorded" by a human eye. Surpringly this could be theoretically possible, as everything we see gets "burned" into the retina of our eyes for a instant moment! The interesting approach from the artist goes one step further,  as he compares our usage of mobile phone and their cameras as a extention of our eyes. What we record through the lens can be seen as a copy of this picture people ages ago wanted to find in the retina of a human. Following this approach the artist presents his work  'The Pixelated Revolution' about the "extreaordinary documentation of deaths in the Syrian Revolution, made by the vicitms themselves by filming the act of shooting with their mobile phone. [...] The notion of the cell phone becoming an extension of the body - a replacement of the eye, facing the muzzle-the way in which such "eye-to-eye" ecounters are captured in film and reality, the movement of the cell-phone user, and the pixilated, blown-up face of the killer are explored via video footage downloaded from the internet [...]."

The artists produced a video clip wandering around at Kassel's Hauptbahnhof focusing on details of the building, daily observations, passersbys, the weather, the athomsphere, it's history. Using dernier cri 'augmented reality' every visitor can get a mobile device with the video on it and some high quality headphone and the advice to walk the same tour as the artists did, holding the device like the screen of a video camera. As soon as the tour starts the visitor finds himself confronted with two realities, jumping with the eye from the screen to the real surroundings and back. And after a few moments both worlds seem to melt togehter, noises from the clip seem real, people walking by in the video seem to cross your way in the real world. Was a dog barking for real? Is it really snowing? Marvelously confusing!

And another brilliant thing from last weekend: Friday night out with the guys from Memento and DB Artists, Idriss D and Fabrizio Maurizi! Fun under a bridge next to Tevere in Rome!

A weekend on Monte Argentario. I was told by dear Claudio that we would stay at his cousin's place over night at this isle... didn't expect anything, in the end it was some super finca-villa thing with a breathtaking panorama view on the coast (Capalbio!), everything very posh, but well, Dolce Vita as it should be... super lovely crew. Could really move there, just so fucking awesome that place, just around Porto S. Ercole... Port Saint Hercules, how cool is that?

And here you can see Filomé drinking game in action. Again not us, but they sing as good as we did. Rules are easy: pass around the glasses according the rhythem, if you notice one misses the rhythem > he's busted and has to drink a shot: bevilo tutto, etc. Fun!

Filomè's revenge! When heading back from a club the serpentine streets of Monte Argentario made poor Elena vomit on our host Julia's beautiful black dress... anyway, the grande dame de nuit accepted here faith with pride. Filomè, Filomè...

This weekend I learned some really sweet Italian drinking games and counting rhymes,  really made me cry for joy... 

Here the very crazy song to make people finish their drink in one time (though no idea who the people are), so funny, as it's the best loop for this: bevilo tutto, bevilo tutto, bevilo tutto, ... drink it all, drink it all, drink it all. And not stopping. Once the glass is empty they sing "He finished the complete drink, and it didn't do him any harm, water can harm, wine makes you sing". So funny...

Best Pizzeria in Marta!

As one might see from the visiting card, the restaurant had it’s peak time in the 70ies, typical unfancy restaurant here and so for foreigners a nice pick, cheesy interior, tv running in the background - authentic. Waiters are lovely. 

First thing: they got good beer! No Moretti shit. If you never tried this, I can only highly recommend as starter » Supplí, grandmas prepare them the day after they cooked a Risotto! Recipe for some action at home: grab cooked and spiced risotto rice, mix it with simple Pomodoro sauce, form out of this a little ball and add a cube of Mozzarella as core. These balls will be braded and fried in olive oil. Awesome. 

Main dish: Pizza Pineta. Fail. I always say to myself: order a regular Pizza Margherita and you are happy. But no, once again the crucial error: this pizza was a white one, so without Pomodoro, but with Mozzarella and Pesto. Sounds good, tastes fatty. But don’t get me wrong, Pizzas here are terrific!
